“Excellent refried beans, which I believe to be a vital benchmark for any restaurant that serves them. Great guacamole. The rice is just as I like it. We usually eat vegetarian or pescatarian, and the shrimp tacos and veggie tacos on their homemade corn tortillas are regularly part of our to-go order. The fried avocado tacos, and the sauce that come with them are fantastic! If you are dining in, they have a wide selection of alcoholic beverages, including frozen margaritas, which are tasty. Great tortas, soup and very good French fries. The empanadas are the best in town that we have found, and we love the chimichurri served with them. They reheat well the next day at home too. The salsa is good. If you like spicy, ask for the habanero sauce too. Super friendly staff that are committed to providing a quality menu, and great experience and an investment in our community. Highly recommended for takeout or dine-in. Discount if you pay cash rather than using a card..let them know how you plan to pay.Vegetarian options: Fried avocado tacos, grilled veggie tacos, vegetarian fajitas, guacamole, salads, several different vegetarian empanadas (spinach, corn/onion, tomato/mozzarella), beans, rice, chips and salsa, and they can customize.Dietary restrictions: Plenty of vegan, pescatarian, and vegetarian options in addition to pork, chicken and beef dishes.Parking: Shared parking lot that is large. We’ve never had trouble getting a nearby spot.Kid-friendliness: Kids selections on the menu too. Well-lit, clean and friendly. Easy with kids.Wheelchair accessibility: Handicap parking right by the front door.“

“I decided to try this place because I kept hearing other people talk about it a lot. It wasn’t bad but I thought it could have been better. My main problem was that the chips were not freshly made and were a little cold and I also wasn’t a huge fan of the red salsa. The chips looked homemade and were still good cold but I like having them warm when I go to a restaurant. It was cool that they brought out a tray that had multiple different salsas to try. I got the steak chimichanga which I thought was pretty good but the meat was in pretty small slices. The rice and beans were good and they have good queso. I also tried a bite of the birria taco which was pretty good and really cheesy.“

Carniceria Valdez Mexican • $
6530 Old Canton Rd, Ridgeland

“Carniceria Valdez is a great option for Mexican food and it is a great example that the best Mexican food comes from humble establishments rather than some high-end establishment heavy on atmosphere and ambiance. Carniceria Valdez is literally a counter in the back of a Mexican grocery, but coming out of that kitchen is some mighty fine Mexican food.I went with a couple of tacos and a gordita. For the gordita, I went with chorizo as the protein and for the tacos I went with the asada and the barbacoa. The tacos were just under two dollars each ($1.99 to be exact) and the gordita was, I believe, $3.50.I probably enjoyed the gordita the most and the chorizo was definitely my favorite protein out of my three choices. The staff was friendly enough, though the ordering process was you walk up to the counter and order your meal and they call you up when it is ready. All in all, I would definitely recommend here and I will give it five stars.“

“Our server, Palemon, was wonderful. He made sure we had everything we needed but wasn't at all intrusive. The veggie happy plate was SO good. The veggies were cooked perfectly, still had a good crunch to them. The serving was huge!! The salsa is obviously made with fresh ingredients ??Edit: I just had my second visit and still every bit as good !!“

Carne Asada

“Truly truly authentic Mexican food ? ?. This whole plaza, not just this restaurant is a hidden gem in the Jackson metro. Wow, I love to experience new places especially in my city there is no telling how many times I have passed by this place because it literally can't be seen from the road. The food was good and on point not tex Mex. So don't come thinking one way cause is not that if you ever been to the non tourist parts of Mexico here you go. May help if you speak a little Spanish to lol ?. Love this little place going back a second time this weekend ?.“
