“You have to wait a while for the food but man oh man is it worth the wait. Best fishI have had in the Triangle. I usually go with the Spicy Mahi plate and the potato side is delicious too. You must go here..it is an institution of Durham and it actually lives up to the hype.“
“Havent been here in awhile and went to celebrate a birthday. I noted this when I made the reservation as well as mentioned it to our server but unfortunately the birthday wasn’t acknowledged in any way; disappointing. In addition we had a reservation for a table for 5 and put us right next to the bar, also unfortunate since it was thoroughfare for staff and service people. Checked out the menu on line before choosing the restaurant and particularly went here for a specific dinner entree listed. Come to find out the actual menu had changed and the entry was no longer available or on the menu. Those are the negatives. The cocktails were good; fresh like springtime. The food was also very good. Everyone in the party enjoyed what they ordered and we all had a variety of items…steak, pasta, and seafood dishes. We ate indoors but outside dining is also available. Ive never had a bad meal here.“
“We love the patio at the location on Fayetteville Road. It is quiet and green, away from the traffic. Their crab cakes are excellent, filled with crab rather than fillers. I had a Greek salad with a Crab cake on top and it was delicious! Service outside is always attentive, which is often not the case with outdoor dining.“
“The food is delicious! Everything! We ordered chorizo queso and it was so good we ordered another one. The chips and salsa are too good! We had the birria quesadilla with consume and it was top tier!! Steak fajita quesadilla with rice very good and the kids chicken quesadilla with fries. Next time we will skip the fries because the rice is so flavorful! We recommend and will absolutely return! Staff was friendly and works quickly!“
“Great little restaurant in a strip mall. The food was really good. We had the ceviche (very good!), lomo saltado and chicharrón mixto. The plates were big, the flavor was good and the service was also good. There were five adults in our party and they charged 20% gratuity automatically. I don't considered a five adult party to be a big group, so I was surprised when we got our check. The service was good, so I didn't mind the 20% gratuity this time.“
“El Chapin is great! We loved the tamales and the pollo en crema. The restaurant is also a bodega, and it was full of people. Very delicious and reasonably priced menu with tons of options, including vegetarian.Vegetarian options: Large section of vegetarian options on the menuParking: Large free parking lot, its a strip mall“
“Menu is always fresh, and options are all delicious. I appreciate the gluten-free fried and broiled options. It's hard to find good gluten-free fried shrimp in this area. Locals Seafood never disappoints!Edited 1/29/24: Still keeping the 5 stars because the food is delicious but it would be nice if you posted somewhere that only raw oysters are available in the last hour before closing. I arrived at 5 minutes after 5pm on a Sunday when 6pm was the stated closing time only to be informed that I could not get fried shrimp because they close at 6pm and only raw oysters were available in the hour before closing. I understand it but was disappointed as I had gotten mine and my husbands hopes up for shrimp and didn't see this info posted on the website anywhere or else I wouldn't have bothered. If I missed that this information is posted somewhere, totally on me. However, if it's not posted it may be nice so folks know that the last hour is just raw oysters.“
“Jessie was absolutely amazing! Her level of care and attention to detail is impeccable!! I dined at this location one year ago once, and she remembered everything that my hubby and I ordered precisely. It was mind blowing because I barely remember the menu and she refreshed my memory on what I preferred and she was absolutely right! I ordered it again excellent customer service. Jessie really makes it personal and made us feel like family while visiting the North Carolina area and dinning at Tony Romas. Thank you for providing excellent customer service!!“
“Dined here last night and at 5:30 there was a 30 minute wait. Didn't expect that but we had no where else to be so we waited. Have dined here from time to time over the years and its simple restaurant food at a fair price. My husband had the fried oysters- it was a smaller size order than we remembered it being but considering what we have paid for oysters recently it was a good deal. Nice size oysters, not too big and not tiny ones either. A medium light batter. Says comes with fries and Cole slaw but can substitute other items at no extra cost. Ordered mashed potatoes and a side salad. I had shrimp and grits with thin slices of what looked like kielbasa. Has good flavor and worth what we paid. Came with a side salad. We had key lime pie for dessert, Could have been a little tangier But home made and it was descent. Atmosphere in the main dining room is a bit crowded, it's one of the things that keeps me from coming back, I sorta feel like cattle being herded into a room. They have a bar area with tables but you can only sit at the bar if seats are available the tables are used doe regular seating. I prefer to sit at the tables in the bar area. This area seems to be filled with regulars. If your looking for decent food at a reasonable price give this place a try.“
“This restaurant is amazing! Their fried oysters and fries are absolutely fantastic! The fried oysters are crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and taste so fresh. And the fries are perfectly crispy and delicious. It's just the perfect combination! I can't resist ordering these every time I come here.“
“I was introduced to this restaurant by my coworker. I had to take my wife there to experience the taste of fresh sea food . The corn on the cob is amazing. Everything is amazing. It's cook to order always hot. The staff is great, we drive from Cary to come eat. I would give it 10 stars if could. Roderick and Jacquelyn“
“I always follow this food truck on Instagram and plan my weekend around their location so I can swing by and grab my plate lol!! All of the food is always fresh and hot prepared when you order it. Sides taste like Sunday home cooking made by your grandma. The flavor selection and sauces are amazing and OMG don't get me started on the slaw!! You have to experience it for yourself in person, trust me. @theseafoodboxnc“
“We love this place, the service and the food excellent ! It's like going down the rabbit hole and coming out on the other side in Wonderland! Don't let the age or location of this building fool you. It's definitely worth a visit. This place has the best traditional tacos in all of Durham! The pineapple water is to die for, and each plate of tacos is served with pickled carrots and onions that will drive anyone mad! The staff is always so friendly and our food is always prepared promptly. This really is a family favorite and a must-have at least once or twice a month! I wish they would sell the pickled carrots by the gallon. LOL, they're that good!“
“Atmosphere and service were great for a seafood spot. Lots of options. Boils, fried seafood, poboys, raw oysters, steamed and grilled. The flavors are all there and I enjoyed the food but I did have one issue. The shrimp weren't cleaned and I had to clean the poop out of each shrimp but after that it was good for what it was. This is why fried shrimp are a gamble..a lot of places won't clean the waste line from shrimp. Maybe others enjoy the flavor, but I do not.“
“I ordered the chicken marsala without the mushrooms and they charged me more for the sauce, my wife ordered the steak with two sides that came with it and was charged for the sides all this extra charges for what we thought came with it it was a downer but the food was pretty good“
“Excellent wings. The honey garlic, Atlanta style with a side of fried rice... Wow. Was incredible. Loved how the sauce mixed with the rice. Would and will come here for wings whenever I'm around and craving. Nice staff too, they hook you up.“
“My family and I have been ordering from Kitchen Queen for the last few months and it has become one of our favorite places in Durham. The food has always been consistently delicious, of good quality, and fresh. We love that it is a family owned and run restaurant that is caring and gracious to their customers. We recently decided to order catering from Kitchen Queen and they did a fantastic job. They provided us with Mediterranean fare including but not limited to baba ganoush, hummus, falafel, kebab, and stuffed grapes leaves (which were our favorite). They were professional, timely, and took the greatest care in the presentation of the platters (see pictures attached). They were able to meet the group’s dietary restrictions that included a vegan diet and nut allergies. All our guests loved the food and asked for the restaurant’s name and location. Please visit and order from this great Mediterranean place! We also highly recommend their fish fry and fried okra.Vegetarian options: Great options for vegetarians and vegans!!!!Dietary restrictions: They were able to work with our nut allergies and vegan diet.“
“This place is great!!I ordered the cajun shrimp & Grits. The shrimp were cooked and seasoned perfectly. I did have to add a pinch of salt to the grits, being originally from Louisiana the salt and seasoning is important. I say this because others may not need salt. But the flavor was great.I ordered the eggs ? over easy with pork sausage patties, collard greens, and the waffle. The eggs ? ? were cooked perfectly. The collard greens were good as well. The sausage patties were great. The waffle was a bit too cakey, thick, and rubbery for my liking. The mac n cheese ? was amazing. The cheesy grits were amazing. The candied yams were amazing as well.Overall, a great place to eat great food!Parking: First come first serveKid-friendliness: YesWheelchair accessibility: Yes“
