“The new Deli Fresh Deli in the Penndel Shopping Center is the creation of local hero Johnny G, who has operated many kitchen eateries in the vicinity. He took over and remade a former Subway, bringing full delicatessen sensibility and local color to a commercial zone that really needed a bright coat of paint. Johnny was on hand to take my order yesterday and introduced himself. I got the short story version of his colorful restaurant history, and I realized that I had eaten in his former place on Brownsville Road a few times and enjoyed it tremendously. My expectations rose accordingly. The large front window sign proclaimed the roast beef, turkey and pork were all roasted on site. Good enough suggestion to order a large Roast Beef Hoagie (w provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, hot pepper hash and sweets) on a handsome sesame seeded long torpedo roll. Wrapped tight in white, and our conversation concluded (after sampling the tortellini salad), I drove home to open it up on the kitchen table. First glance at the stuffed sub and my salivaries exploded. It was visually compelling. First bite confirmed that it all worked together perfectly to tantalize my tastebuds. It was a tremendous chomp and chew. Excellent crustiness, followed by folded layers of pink roast beef, provolone and all the rest. This was a mouth party to beat the band. Texture and flavor combined to have me close my eyes and savor the moment. I managed to eat about a third of it, and rolled up the remainder for later enjoyment and family sharing. Deli Fresh is the real deal for Italian style deli delights. They even have a pickle barrel for those who love cukes soured in brine. Its time is now.“

“One of the best sandwiches I've ever had in the area. Reasonably priced and the sandwiches were loaded with deliciousness. I almost wished they gave me a whole bagel instead of half of the bagel considering how much avocado they packed on top. The egg white turkey bacon sandwich is solid and flavorful. Will definitely return to try other options. There are a good amount of tables inside and also a few outdoor tables.“

“Just finished our Christmas dinner (ham from Pulaski's). This was easily the best ham I've ever had and one of my top 5 Christmas dinners ever. Service was fantastic, people are great. “Frey's Deli & Pizza sits in a small strip center on northbound Lincoln Highway (Rt.1) in Penndel, PA. It is an unassuming place with a few tables, a big front window, and prep area in the back for pizza and takeout. There isn't much in the way of provisions in the refrigerated display case, but what they do have is either made inhouse or Dietz & Watson. I asked about their tuna salad, and was advised it was prepared fresh that morning and a popular seller. Good enough for me, I went with a whole hoagie with lettuce, plus sweet/hot peppers. Opened it back at the office. It was heavy in the wrap paper, and substantial upon opening. Not only was the tuna as good as advertised, but the roll had a nice crust and texture that was a pleasure to bite through. Quality sandwich all the way. Tasty, and not the least bit fishy. Just enough mayo to hold everything together and blend perfectly with all the ingredients. One of the better deli sammies of recent memory. Prices were good, too. Only downside - there wasn't much to chose from in the drink department. Definitely would benefit from more selection for washdown. But, other than that, Frey's was a very pleasant surprise nosh.“
