We decided to check with the staff at 9:40 pm if they were open and they said Yes . The food was sumptuous, ambiance was good. Great service . The owner checked on us, the server were knowledgeable and attentive. All in all a great impromptu date night with my husband.

I have been here a couple of times. And it seems to have gone down. The food is generally good (not great), but the service is poor -- the waiter shows up some 15-20 minutes after you are seated. We ordered a vegetarian special of the orchietti, but we got it with sausage. Then it took another 10 minutes, while the rest of us ended up eating. Awkward! The waiter did apologize for the error and gave us 50% off the entree. Also, I ordered a ravioli and got 6 pieces that were lukewarm. And it was $25. Overall, a decent place. Not worth the price.

We have eaten there twice in the past month and both times were excellent. They have a wide variety of food on the menu. The sauces were fresh and flavorful and we enjoyed all our choices which included shrimp and mussel appetizers as well as lamb chops, scallops, and pasta. Service was pleasant. It can get noisy but at present it’s open to the outside. It’s a byo and when necessary they were willing to decant the wine. It’s a solid consistent restaurant

Wonderful food. When I eat somewhere else I always think I should have gone to Scala. Staff is great! Owner is lovely. This restaurant delivers truly the best food In the area. Every meal is better than the next. Reasonably priced. Scallops, shrimp appetizers are amazing. Risotto fabulous! Walnut tart and cheesecake are show stoppers. BYOB! Great wine store located next to this restaurant.

I saw Scala del Nonna in someone's Instagram stories and wanted to learn more. In doing my research I learned about the connection to Scalini Fedeli, which is fantastic. I HAD to try the food here since it's so close to where I live. My husband and I opted for outdoor seating since Church Street is so quaint. Sally, the hostess, and James, our server, were so lovely. With water, we received warm bread and seasoned olive oil. We started with the Mushroom Risotto and lamb and pork meatballs in amatriciana sauce. We also started with a spinach salad with endive, oranges, hazelnuts, and a champagne vinaigrette. The risotto was perfect, flavor and texture. The meatballs and sauce were so tender and flavorful. The salad was the sleeper hit of the appetizers by far. Perfect flavor pairings. For entrees we ordered the Pork Chop special in vodka mascarpone sauce and pollo scarpariello. This was by far the best pork I've ever eaten. Period. Super tender, super flavorful, so juicy. The chicken dish was perfectly cooked and the sauce was so tasty. We somehow had room for dessert and I ordered berries in zabaglione with crushed up amaretto cookies, and my husband ordered a ricotta and mascarpone cheesecake with tea and coffee respectively. Everything about this meal was divine. I'm sorry I didn't know about this restaurant before, but I'm glad to know about it now. I will be back again and again and again.

They were super accommodating, we had a group of about 45 people and the service was great. The food was even better. *highly recommend the wild mushroom & truffle ravioli. It was one of a kind. Burrata salad was amazing too!!

I dined here for the first time last week with some friends and to say we had a fantastic time is an understatement! from the ambiance, to the service & the food, oh the food was EXCELLENT! our waiter Michael was very knowledgeable of the menu and even the specials. To top it off, the owner Sally came to our table to inquire about our experience, which totally impressed us. I can't believe I've been a resident of Essex County forever and never been to or even heard of this hidden gem. Since dining there, I have recommended this restaurant to my family and friends. Actually my parents just dined there Tuesday thanks to my great reviews. I will definitely be back. You guys have really set the bar!
