food is good but customer service is not. my daughter placed an order for her lunch when i wasn't around and upon delivery was hounded for a tip before even receiving the food in her hand. she did not have a tip to give because not thinking of anything else she had only asked me for enough money to pay for her food. she raved about their sushi, so eager to try it myself i had her call in an order (this was the following day and i knew nothing of this prior experience). after taking our phone number and address the person taking our order says verbatim "you didn't give my driver a tip. you need to do that.". shocked, my daughter explained how she simply didn't have anything to give at the time which she also explained to the delivery person along with an apology. my daughter was then nervous to eat the food out of fear that it would be tampered with. i understand that tipping is respectful and something that should be done but it most definitely is not an obligation. so for not only the driver but also the receptionist to attempt to force the customer to provide this service is highly unprofessional and can make the customer very uncomfortable. it also seems to demonstrate something of a protocol being held at this work place...

Such a good restaurant. Super friendly staff. No wait times. And the food is amazing. From their pork buns to pad Thai, everything we had was delicious. Definitely recommend this place.

I really loved our lunch - you can get spicy tuna rolls and teriyaki chicken at any Asian bistro place, but this place really impressed us!! The sushi rice was so tender and the fish was bursting with flavor. Just so fresh. The chicken teriyaki was cooked to absolute perfection - so tender and juicy with some smokiness, and a little crunch. Nice sauce, not cloyingly sweet like most places. It was served on a bed of steamed veggies, which tasted buttered to me. We dined in, very fast service. We will definitely be back!

Our go to sushi place in town. Sushi is always fresh. We've only placed delivery or to go orders because of covid and the service is always fast. Will continue to make Takara our go to take out joint

First time ordering from Takara and the last. I ordered delivery and the guy showed up and called me. I live in the back of the building and up on the second floor and told him okay I was coming right now. He calls back as I'm on my way down, about 30 seconds later to yell at me and tell me that he's leaving my food at the door. I asked him to please don't do that because they just sprayed the front porch for rodents. He proceeded to yell at me telling me my address was too far and that he had other places to be and he threw my food on the porch anyways. I came running out and he sped away. If my location was too far, why did the restaurant accept my delivery? Why didn't they just tell me no and I would have went elsewhere? I gave them my money just to get yelled at and my food left in an unsanitary spot. See the photo for the difference in times that I spoke to this guy. He didn't even give me a single minute to come get my food before he called and yelled at me.

I've been going to Takara since about June 2019 and I have never been disappointed. I keep it simple: I enjoy the fried rice dishes and particularly love the lo mein, and I also like the General Tso's. Ordering to go, they always have prepared my order quickly; I've never had to wait if I ordered online. What's more is that the fried rice is even a few hours later without needing to be heated up! This was important to me because I worked during the morning and evening so I ate during my midday break before going to work and then was able to finish the food later when I got home without needing the microwave. I only wish I liked sushi because their sushi menu is huge!

This was the first place we got delivery from when we first moved to montclair 3 years ago and we have ordered from here consistently over the years! Delivery is always super fast, food is hot, and sushi is well packed! Our faves include the house noodles, salt and pepper calamari, katsu, and various rolls!

Upon arrival I was not greeted at the door. There was a table with more than 8 people sitting in the front of the restaurant which is against the NJ COVID-19 CDC guidelines. When I sat down , I was given a menu with short time to review it. I typically love Asian food and found this restaurant to be rather expensive for such a un-welcoming atmosphere. I placed an order for an appetizer but still had not received a beverage. 14 minutes pass with still no beverage. The restaurant was not busy at all as the waiter proceeded with online orders. The one appetizer we got took very long. Terrible service.

We used to order from here every weekend however tonight we placed an order at 7:30 with an ETA of 8:30. By 9 it wasn't here we called and were told our food was not ready despite getting notified that it was on its way. By 9:30 we called again and we're told 15 minutes. By 10 we had to cancel since it clearly wasn't coming. We got no apology they could clearly care less. Will be the last time we order from here. We recommend you do the same unless you want to go hungry.

my usual spots for Chinese were bizarrely busy tonight. couldn't get anyone on the phone. called Takara. They picked up immediately and the food was delicious. sesame chicken, excellent pork dumplings, nice cold sesame noodles, the veggies weren't overcooked. we all loved it. would definitely order from there again. plus they have chinese Japanese and thai. lots of choices!

THOSE WITH TREE NUT AND PEANUT ALLERGIES BEWARE! I am livid. Takara offers a fried rice and pineapple dish that has cashews. My brother is allergic to tree nuts and peanuts, so we obviously avoid that dish and opt for the mango fried rice dish that does not have cashews in it. The first time we ordered the mango fried rice we were confused to see cashew nuts mixed in it. My brother avoided the dish as a result and we said that next time we would make sure to write, "NO NUTS!" in the note section when ordering. I am sure most people can understand how livid I am to open our mango fried rice upon arriving home tonight and seeing a cashew sitting right at the top. This is now the second time that this has happened. Not only is this dish not supposed to come with cashews but we also wrote," NO NUTS!" in the note section when ordering. This restaurant is extremely reckless and irresponsible. Seeing as how this is the second time that they have incorrectly put nuts in our food, I can confidently say that we will never be ordering from them again.

Great spice on the noodles! The hot really ain't that hot so if you can handle the heat, def get the spiciest that you can get for this. Chirashi also very good but just standard stuff; I mean it's takeout what do you expect. Would recommend and go back again and try other stuff esp since the menu is so huuuuge! Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Singaporean, they've got it all!

My 3rd time ordering from Takara. Great customer service, food is always fresh. Attention to detail to the point where I forgot to ask for extra soy sauce at my second time ordering but they remembered to add it. Those are the reasons I will always go back.

Really good sushi! First time ordering here during this virus mayhem and very efficient and great service! Fresh fish, delicious soup and great veggie gyoza. :)
