The French onion dumplings were amazing. The dish was drenched in melty cheese and I cannot wait the come back here. The service was prompt and excellent. There's a minimum $20 spend on credit card. We had a group of 16 outside and the restaurant accommodated us wonderfully. The food and the checks came out quickly. Can't wait to come here again!

This location has plenty of seating indoor and a couple of outdoor seats too. Nice location near Van Cortland Park. The service was very good and so was the food. I had the Blackened Chicken Avocado Salad with the Wasabi Ginger Dressing. After your done you can buy dessert nextdoor at the carrot cake shop. Food drinks and dessert and go for a walk in the park.

I came to Tortoise & Hare on a weekday and the vibe was calm. I love the location; the restaurant is right across from Van Cortlandt Park. ** The sangria was really good.. I loved the bbq pulled pork Mac & cheese; it is a huge plate to be an appetizer! Also, the burger was delicious and cooked perfectly to my liking. The only issue I had was the caesar salad! I added grilled chicken but it was a huge disappointment... I should have saved the extra money and got it without the chicken. The grilled chicken was barely grilled; it was still kind of white and had absolutely no flavor... not even a pinch of salt or pepper. After a couple bites, I was kind of nauseous. I would visit again AND GIVE THEM ANOTHER CHANCE... but would try other items on the menu!

This is the perfect neighborhood bar, a place where you can stop by for a drink or got out with friends. Service is top notch and so are the drinks, most importantly! Also. Their waffle fries are THE BEST IN THE UNIVERSE. I kid you not. I have eaten a lot of fried potatoes in my day but nothing compares to those ridged bits of wonder. Get a side of chipotle mayo and you will be transported to carb heaven!!

Decided to stop here on a whim and couldn't be more pleased! The staff are very friendly and helpful, loads of food and drink options, as well as indoor/outdoor seating. We decided to sit outside, under there makeshift hut and it was beautiful. Our server was so tentative and the drinks! What a refreshing delight! Strongly recommend, either the cucumber Marg or the cucumber Moscow mule! The guacamole we got in medium heat and we can teal right away that it was made fresh for us, as well as the chips! There bathrooms are so clean, as well as the rest of the restaurant. The parking is crazy... as it is street parking. If you are ever in the lower part of the Bronx (Riverdale) check this place out! You won't be disappointed :)

Sometimes you find yourself in a borough you are not that familiar with while exploring and due to hunger you run into a really cool restaurant. That's the Tortoise & Hare. I ended up here after walking Van Cortlandt park (right across) and wanting soup on a cold day. French onion soup dumplings? I had to try it. Also had the beet burger that was pretty delicious and loaded with guac. It was all tasty and I'm not even into beets. We ordered Irish coffees as well with Jameson. They hit the spot and were a treat with whipped cream on top. The ambiance here is great, filled with statues and posters of Guinness ads and you guessed it! Tortoises and Hares! There was a sign I loved as a fellow turtle lover that said "Turtle lovers parking only" and another welcoming sign of literally "welcome to the Bronx." Tip: If you love Guinness like myself, try their Gingerbread Spiced Stout. It tastes like Christmas. So good! Our waitress was nice asking how everything was and I asked for another beer but she misunderstood. I took it as a sign that I should not ruin a good thing. :)

2nd time coming here, food is always super tasty. Was my first time tying the wings and they were soooooo good, I got the Korean BBQ Flavor. The chicken sandwich is honestly very bland, but all the other items on the menu are very tasty. Max & Cheese, Guacamole, Shrimp Tacos are all well worth ordering.

Ordered from this place from the park across the street. Veggie burger, amazing. 2 beef burgers, off the hook. Macaroni and cheese, to die for and the curry chicken fries, unimaginable. Best girls out picnic lunch ever. Oh and the house wine as a tequila (we brought the bottle of tequila with us ) chaser Woah!!!! Now everytime we girls are on that side of town Tortoise & Hare will definitely be our go to place.

Great place to go after spending the afternoon playing tennis and other recreational activities in the park or for a quick drink and bit in the evening. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I celebrated my daughter's 15th birthday there and Anthony, the proprietor, treated my daughter and her friends with great respect. The all had burgers and loved them.
