The Temaki they serve is great for a 2 bite situation, making it really easy to share between 2… if that’s your thing. To be honest, coming here and getting the classic & signature is just as $ as getting delivery sushi, maybe a bit more expensive but it’s worth it. High quality ingredients & thought out flavors.Personal favorite temaki is the XO scallop. The whole entire restaurant is gluten free by the way, so that might win a lot of people over. The interior & vibe is definitely for a certain demographic and will become aged out within maybe a year or two. The interior is on the same note of that Tend instagram dentist place, and that’s not a compliment. The music they play reminds me of what they would play at like a retail store.Dietary restrictions: The entire restaurant is gluten free & can help gluten intolerance with their meal.“

It’s great that you can tell them you’re not into weird pieces like hearts and organs and they’ll substitute. The different pieces, though mostly chicken, all had different tastes. We brought our kids that can’t finish an entire omakase. We thought we could get a la carte for them but they won’t let you order just a la carte despite the two adults ordering a la carte. (Try to get seated on the perimeter of the space, the tables in the center of the room can feel a little claustrophobic.) Fairly priced. Cons: Uneven service. On two separate visits, the server forgot my drink. The server on our last visit was downright surly; she really seemed like she did not want to be there at all and spent most of the evening ignoring us. And, also during our last visit, we almost turned around and left because it looked like the place was closed. It was dusk, all the lights and signage were turned off, tables and chairs were stacked out front and a large pile of cardboard recycling was waiting to be picked up. “TLDR (4.5/5) The only reason I did a (-0.5) is because the line can get busy and VERY long. I mean everybody wants to stay for a while for a reason! The vibe is fantastic! Going in from the walk down to the entrance into a very compact but full of life bar environment. You get to sit down and enjoy some pretty great food for a bar. (The Crab Croquette is insane! The Dessert just hits the spot because it's huge!) The drinks are above average with rather standard drink pricing. There is a lot of variety in terms of Japanese Whiskey. You really come here for the vibes, it just has this charm with the toy train going at the top, the jazz band playing in the back, and the ambient lighting around sporadically placed objects of random knickknacks! You won't regret going here for a unique experience, if you can get in haha!Warning: There is a $10 fee just to go in as a fee for the live band.Band stops playing around 1AM-2AMFood (4.5/5): Mentioned it before but the Crab Croquette blew my mind! It's so freaking hot though so please be careful and don't burn your tongue haha. It's basically this really decadent hot crab cream inside that just explodes with flavor. Easily a must get along with the Hot Honey Toast if you are a lover of desserts. That thing is easily meant for two people and it's delicious. Not the best dessert but unique enough to stand on it's own. For savory foods, can never go wrong with the okonomiyaki. That comes out fresh as hell and it was cold out at the time sooo it is a bit biased. Was it the best, no, was it damn good, yes. Yaki soba was good and I think personally the onigiri's were lacking(2.5/5). The Fried curry croquette was very standard, like we're talking (3/5) for that. As a bar, the food is definitely a stand out for here.Service(4/5): Service was wonderful. The individuals might seem a bit rushed but everyone is Japanese. They can understand English but they constantly deal with the massive line. Can definitely see some people being offended at the line with how they operate but there is a language barrier. There is a reason why it's (5/5). At the end of the day they are nice and courteous. You can crack jokes with them and there are no complaints. It really isn't a restaurant so don't expect water refills all the time. This is a Jazz Bar at the end of the day so you got to keep those expectations there.Reminder: I am Asian, does that mean there is a bias, maybe, just maybe. P.S. They are really really nice to other people not just Asians. That was a joke earlier hahaDecor and Ambiance (4.5/5): It gives that Cowboy Bebop vibe if you know it. If you don't, imagine hole-in-the-wall, hard-boiled detective style, midnight sit down and relax at 12AM with the moon out vibe. Could also be a cute date spot but it gets loud. The Jazz isn't peak performance but it does it's job at adding to the ambiance. The bar is fantastic and has personality. The decor around the whole place is adorable. Each corner is different from one another. A mini train that goes around one corner to this old fish tank with random items inside. It's great! Chairs are comfy but not mind-blowing. Ambient lighting is a plus but terrible for food pictures. It's really hard to get it right. Bathroom is clean. Can confirm bathroom is clean and it's a little tight to get there but it's not bad.Overall (4.5/5)Nonetheless, for sure this is a place I'll revisit in the future. The line is long but it's worth it once in a while. Especially if it is your first time, I'd say it's worth the visit just come early or late enough to avoid the big lines. If you are looking for a bar crawl and are around the area, this is a solid choice. You can't go wrong with a little Tomi Jazz in your life. If the line is huge I'd say you have better chances somewhere else but if it's small, you are in for a lovely treat!“

“This place is fantastic! Much-needed for the neighborhood - incredible staff, food, and ambience. The sake selection is unique and extensive, and the sushi was the best I’ve had in years. I went here for breakfast and dinner while staying at the hotel next door. My new go-to spot! Excellent food and service. The sashimi of the day for 2 was incredibly fresh and delicious - the tuna literally melted in my mouth! The "sushi bombs" prepared by the chef were outstanding, including eel, sea urchin, and squid. We finished with some delicious fried chicken, cooked to order. All this in a low-key, minimalist setting in the Lower East Side. Go!“

“Truly enjoyed my first omakase experience. I got so lucky to have Yama-san to be my chef for the night. His skills were amazing and each nigiri was served with a smile and hospitality. I am sure there are omakases out there that deserve the highest praises but for me, I’ll hold this experience dear because each and every course I had were so heartwarming and I could see the integrity in Yama-san as a sushi chef. I came to this omakase alone but I did not feel as such because he made me feel welcomed. I did not think I would learn so much in an hour, while being served food. It was such a delightful experience. I hope to have him again next time I visit NYC.“

“I discovered Shinn East when they first opened either right before or during Covid. Till this date, this spot is my go to omakase given their high value for money offering. It is extremely well priced for the amount of pieces that you get and the quality and freshness of their fish is excellent. Service is also excellent. Both indoor and outdoor seating are really good. Highly recommend.“

“Absolutely my favorite place for sushi. When you order the omakase you aren't just served different cuts of fish you may be familiar with like bluefin tuna but rather get a series of carefully crafted pieces combining flavors you'd never expect. “The most fun and engaging Omakase you'll ever experience. Talk about fun, raunchy and in your face . One hour experience without having to worry about behavior, matter of fact, the staff wants you to be loud and let loose. I've been to many Omakse around the $100 range but nowhere is this much fun. If you haven't experienced Sushi On Me then shame on you. I applaud the staff there for coming up with a party Omakase concept and I can't wait to be back. In closing, forget your mild mannered Omakase and just let it loose here or at their Brooklyn location.“

“My favorite ramen joint in New York! Go here on a jazz night if you can, because the ambience with the artists is even more incredible. This is my 3rd time here, and while everything is great, I’d specifically recommend: spicy ramen, spicy tsukemen, oysters mp, and mango kakigori. Between the freshly made noodles and flavorful broths, all of the noodle dishes are the perfect cozy meal. I was pleasantly surprised by the oysters, which came with a yuzu mint vinaigrette that added a bright vibrancy to each oyster. Don’t shy away from getting dessert the end! The shaved ice is a great way to end on a refreshing note without feeling bogged down by sugar. Note that this place fills up quick, so reserve in advance or come early to beat the wait. “Sushi chef was heavy on the fish. Staff were adorably kind. Place is small and neat. Most decent sushi place in the entire neighborhood.I got the salmon dinner and an uni sushi. It comes with a side of either miso soup or salad. I could not finish it and had a cute little to go box for my leftovers.Price is a bit steep since I chose a moderately expensive dish plus the uni which was market price. There are more affordable options on their menu.“

“Our experience at NR, was mostly positive. The Japanese fried chicken appetizer left us underwhelmed, lacking that special touch. However, the chicken soup curry stole the show with its amazing taste and generous portion size, making it a preferable choice over the ramen.Speaking of ramen, while it wasn't bad, it didn't quite justify making a special trip here for it. There are other spots in the city that excel in ramen. On the bright side, the service was excellent, and the ambiance had a charming speakeasy vibe, evoking the essence of old NYC.Overall, NR is a great spot to visit with a date or friends, offering a delightful experience with standout dishes like the chicken soup curry. However, if you're solely craving ramen, you might find better options elsewhere in the city.“

“After binge watching Love is Blind for 4 hours, it took everything for my lil baby and I to peel ourselves out of bed to make our 6pm reservation at Virginia's. To be honest, the last minute cancellation would have cost me $50 so that's really what got me... and that's so fair they should charge for last minute cancellations on a res.I've walked by Virginia's hundreds of times at this point, and made so many mental notes to pop in as it looks so inviting from the outside. Upon finally entering, I was right. Inviting af.As we sat down I became almost giddy for the meal, as the ambiance is so well curated. I'm a sucker for those little floating orb lights and a cool under lit bar ahahaha. We started with drinks (Negroni for me, obviously. My nickname in high school was Post Negrone), the little gem salad, and the crab croquettes. The little gem salad was out of this world honestly. I don't even know, I could have eaten 10 of those things. For mains, wifey got the burger per Yelp direction and I got the Steak Frites because I am on a mission to try every Steak Frites in the city. The burger is absolutely to die for. The hype is real. It's recommended medium rare, and it came cooked to perfection. I mean look at the attached pic, Jesus Christ. Every bite of this large beef patty amalgamated with cabot cheddar, onion marmalade, marrow aioli, and bacon is a juicy blast of heaven between 2 buns. It was spiritual. The Steak Frites was the best one I've had in NYC. Granted I've only had like 7-8, but still, head and shoulders my favorite right now. I mean again, just look at the pic attached. Do I need to say anymore? I mean look at that Maitre d' butter soaking into the steak. Great portion size too. Steak was bigger than my head ahaha God did. However the only negative, that is my civic duty to mention, was fries do not come with the burger... and the fries are an extra $12!?!?! DAMN. Me and wifey just split the fries from my Steak Frites so we were chillin, but an extra $12 for some fries? On top of a $20 burger? $25 if you add bacon too… $29 if you add the egg…I really began to worry about the future of the world when burgers stopped coming with fries. I wonder if they'll start serving scrambled eggs without bacon lol. That's when I'll know it'll be time to flee the country.Regardless of fry-gate, I loved this place... I don't hold it against them either, as most high end American places are doing this. Much to my chagrin in times like this, the market is the market.Shoutout to our girl, Morgan, as she was an amazing waitress. Super engaging, giving us great recs, checking in on us all the time, etc. The staff here was fantastic. My experience was so memorable that I almost bought a hoodie, but bailed last minute as I got really shy and I spent a good amount on dinner ahahahaha. This is one of the best American Food spots I have been to in all of NYC. It will make my revised list of All NBA Lower East Side Restaurants. GOD DID!IG @jnov_Tiktok @jnov__“
