“Sushi Akio has always been a solid sushi place when I'm having cravings and I always find myself ordering their lunch specials (every day until 4pm) from time to time. Currently it's around $14 for 3 rolls (with your choice of soup or salad), but I still think it's a decent price compared to other places. My go-to rolls are the Alaskan roll, eel avocado, and yellowtail. I usually get takeout more often than eating in because it's a small spot that can get busy. I've ordered from them over the course of many years and the food and service has been pretty consistent, as well.“
“Many of the food options are delicious, especially the chicken poppers, tomahawk sandwich (definitely ask for extra pickles), poke bowls, and rolls like Moscow, crazy salmon, and regular rolls. Just be aware that if you get one of the chicken platters, it comes with a bottle of water or can of soda, as the cashiers sometimes assume you know.“
“Sushi on Me is a party. I have been able to swing going twice in the last year and can say that the guys behind the counter are among the hardest working folks in the restaurant business anywhere in NY. It is loud, chaotic, and a lot of fun. I can't wait to go back for a third time.“
“One of the best Thai restaurants I’ve been to in Manhattan! The spicy lemongrass ramen is one of my favorites but you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Such a fun vibe and amazing decor. One of my regular spots to visit when dining out you won’t be disappointed.“
“The ambiance is stylish and comfortable, and the dishes are exquisite? We chose the ?$100 pp Omakase for 2 and also ordered a few appetizers and nigiri a la carte. The appetizers include a steamed egg—soft and smooth, with the sauce flavor just right—you can order it with added Uni.Since every ingredient was so fresh and sweet, we couldn't resist ordering more scallop, uni, and wagyu nigiri to satisfy our cravings~The cocktails were fruity and very professionally made?. The dessert's cheesecake has sesame flavor?Check this place out‼️“
“Brought my girlfriend here to celebrate Valentine’s Day and her birthday as well. Not too familiar with omakase experiences but had absolutely nothing negative to say about the food. Fish tasted fresh and simple. Service was exceptional, warm and friendly. Immediately felt welcomed and at home. Also brought us a surprise birthday cake at the end.“
“We had an outstanding experience at Rosella last night. The food, service, and atmosphere were all top notch. Our server James was engaging and got us out of our comfort zone by surprising us with most of the dishes we were served. My husband who is not a sushi fan is now a sushi fan. We can’t wait to come back!“
“This is the BEST fish restaurant in the city! We have been coming here for years now and it never disappoints. We love to start with the whole sashimi fish in olive oil and sea salt...delicious! And we end with a whole bronzino grilled and also amazing!!! And lots of different stuff in between...“
“The environment is very warm and comfortable, the ingredients are fresh, and the shrimp in the sashimi is so sweet and chewy—I love it so much! The owner is very enthusiastic, and both my friends and I absolutely love it! We will definitely come often.“
“Great spot for temaki. You can mix and match your order. I mixed some of the classic with the toro and red crab. The scallop one was particularly delicious. We started with the spicy tuna dip which was also great. Tried the nami nori salad, interesting flavors, wasn’t my favorite but definitely something different to try that you won’t find on another menu. Awesome lunch spot!“
“Good upscale style vegan Asian fusion restaurant, although portions could be bigger. If you want a big satisfying meal I wouldn’t recommend coming here.I do highly recommend the Japanese sweet potato and sushi (can’t remember which roll). I wouldn’t normally order vegan sushi but this was surprisingly delicious even though there was no fish, so definitely worth it! We also had the Singapore noodles but that was just alright, very light and not much vegetables.“
“Takeda is a phenomenal sushiya on the UWS. It's a 8 person counter serving an Omakase course of around 17 dishes. The Omakase is a mixture of nigiri, sashimi, and cooked dishes. The meal last around 2.5 hours and is $250 per person. Our favorite dishes were;Lobster - this was probably the best lobster I've ever had. Favorite dish of the omakase.Sardine - sardine usually isn't my favorite piece of sushi but the way Takeda does it is excellent.Golden Eye Snapper - what we enjoyed about Takeda was they don't serve the usual roundup of fish. Never had golden eye snapper and it was delicious. Vegetable Tempura - a fried tempura ball of vegetables, simple but great.Chu Toro - excellent.Striped jack - excellent. The service was top notch, our waitress explained each piece of fish to us and was very attentive. Highly recommend Takeda if you're looking for top level sushi.“
“We had a great anniversary. We got the 12 piece + 2 hand roll omakase set for $53. The fish was super fresh and the whole meal was about 45min. There’s about 12-15 seats at the counter, so if you want to guarantee seating book a reservation. It was absolutely worth every “
“No question the highest quality sushi I’ve had in my life. Staff was super friendly and the atmosphere was cozy and nice. I like how the fish was served with minimal additions - meaning the focus was on the fish, not the toppings or sauces. I loved it. Definitely will eat there again.“
“10/10 experience, the service was impeccable and the vibes were immaculate. It was a prompt 6:30-8PM dinner with 15 courses. Every piece was perfectly curated and we were given sake alongside our meal. I got tea (added cost) which was a nice sesame flavor and I added another Hotate at the end. I came out full but not overly stuffed! I would recommend this omakase to anyone as it was a great price and wonderful way to end the night!“
“This is one of my new favorite omakase spots in the city. Not a single piece of fish was chewy. Every piece was so fresh. Love how they start with the less fatter pieces and work their way up. The experience got better and better with every piece. You can tell it was well thought out. It was one of my friends first time having omakase and he fell in love with sushi by m!“
“The fish is amazing and the place serves the best omakase experience for that price. I am a regular at the place , but the last time I went there, I reserved the last shift 9 pm. all I can say, is avoid going for the last shift, as the servers rush to push you out the door in half hour, which makes is an unpleasant experience.“
“An absolutely amazing experience. Every piece of sushi was meticulously prepared and so so delicious. Your mouth will go on a journey that will leave your taste buds unable to appreciate any other piece of sushi. This place is amazing and we'll definitely be back.“
“The taste is pretty good, just like an average sukiyaki pot. However, the rule that sukiyaki must be ordered for at least two portions is really unreasonable! And, I fell down at the door. Because the small steps at the door are easily overlooked! ! careful!“
“Really fun environment and the sushi bar experience is a ton of fun. The chefs are great to watch execute their craft, they’ll make friendly small talk, and the host is very accommodating and friendly. The impromptu trivia and group karaoke was a welcome surprise. The food was new, interesting, unique, and very tasty!“
“Tl;dr food was decent, and service was good.Came here on a Tuesday night, and it was packed. Service was pretty great, and we always had our water refilled. Dishes also came out extremely fast; we were in and out in about 20 minutes. Food was good, but nothing special. The creamy udon was ok, but the sushi was surprisingly really good.“
“An exquisite gem for a romantic rendezvous! The Omakase experience at this restaurant is nothing short of culinary poetry. Each dish, a masterpiece, meticulously crafted with the finest ingredients. The intimate atmosphere and impeccable service make it an ideal choice for a memorable Valentine's Day celebration. They also have a great Sake selection including some hard to find bottles!! Tons of five-star reviews are well-deserved; it’s a true gift to the senses!“
“Great place to stop by for a simple omakase lunch. Theres a small seating counter in the back for about 10-12 people. We had 10 pieces of fish with 2 rolls. The fish of the day was mackeral and fluke. Some of my favorites were the torched sable fish and scallop. Service was great and the staff were friendly.“
“Excellent omakase for an excellent price. We had an amazing, friendly chef. The way he sliced the scallop was truly amazing, I had never seen anything like that and I’ve been to many omakase’s. Our waitress was lovely and the timing is the courses was perfect! We would definitely come again !“
“If you love hand rolls you have to visit this place! Full many of different types of hand rolls that freshly made one by one. There are no tables only huge bar. They do serve soft drinks, beers and sake.To get there you will have to wait in line , they don’t take any reservations. They do have couple options to choose from, last time I ordered 5 for $29 and it was great choice. Fresh fish, warm rice and crispy nori. Will definitely Come back again and again.Felt a little bit rush after my 3rd rolls, chef was making them one by one but I didn’t have time to finish previous yet and new one was coming out to soon.“
“My friends treated me and my wife to dinner here as an engagement present. We all had a wonderful time and thought the food was top notch. On top of the fresh fish and impeccable presentations, I really appreciated that Don was so accommodating to dietary restrictions. Many restaurants serving omakase are unwilling to make changes. I would absolutely come back again and recommend this to anyone.“
“Have come here a couple times for dinner. Both times, we tried different dishes that were both classic Japanese food and also some unique specials. The last time we went we sat in the back of the restaurant past the kitchen, which is quite crowded. There was a table of screaming children (standing on their chairs screaming), being really disruptive which affected our experience a bit. Food is top notch, and service is extremely friendly.“
“Absolutely my favorite place for sushi. When you order the omakase you aren't just served different cuts of fish you may be familiar with like bluefin tuna but rather get a series of carefully crafted pieces combining flavors you'd never expect. Whenever friends visit New York, I always suggest Sushi “
“What an incredible experience!! A hidden gem, delicious sushi and cuisine, artistic & flavorful, Awesome chill ambiance, great value for the price, and being Japanese with high standards for NYC omakase, this was a winner! We will be back!“
“My partner took me here for my birthday and we loved it. To get in, you must ring the door using an old telephone and say the password. Within, there are items from Mr Moto's travels throughout. Downstairs there is a pre or post lounge as well. All the sushi was amazing. My only complaint is that I was too full! Not a bad thing at all. The saki pairings were also lovely and generous. I liked how they switched our cup out each time and we occasionally got to select the cup we wanted. The food, service, and atmosphere was all top notch.“
“AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING! If you're in NYC you absolutely HAVE to go. The chef was absolutely amazing, you'll meet a wonderful gentleman who will help navigate the experience as well. The ambience was exceptional. Great music, people, and vibes. I would have eaten here several more times if we had the chance. Experience AND food was 10/10. Highly recommend and absolutely WILL be back next time we're in New York!“
“So exciting to see standout places continue to open in the gowanus area (claro being the other top-tier in my mind). Food was phenomenal - truly a place I would bring someone if I was trying to impress them with NY food. Here's my gripes - tables were so close together it's hard to even get in and out. I get restaurants need to make money, but it ruins the mood to be one nose hair away from another customer's shoulder. The four tops look more spacious so probably a better idea to come in a group. Second, despite opening in late 2023 almost 2024 they went all in on QR code menus. I'm with the boomers on this one, let this trend die. The menu is part of the experience, in my mind. Sitting down and everyone pulling out their phones ruins the mood.“
“Truly enjoyed my first omakase experience. I got so lucky to have Yama-san to be my chef for the night. His skills were amazing and each nigiri was served with a smile and hospitality. I am sure there are omakases out there that deserve the highest praises but for me, I’ll hold this experience dear because each and every course I had were so heartwarming and I could see the integrity in Yama-san as a sushi chef. I came to this omakase alone but I did not feel as such because he made me feel welcomed. I did not think I would learn so much in an hour, while being served food. It was such a delightful experience. I hope to have him again next time I visit NYC.“
“I discovered Shinn East when they first opened either right before or during Covid. Till this date, this spot is my go to omakase given their high value for money offering. It is extremely well priced for the amount of pieces that you get and the quality and freshness of their fish is excellent. Service is also excellent. Both indoor and outdoor seating are really good. Highly recommend.“
“This place is fantastic! Much-needed for the neighborhood - incredible staff, food, and ambience. The sake selection is unique and extensive, and the sushi was the best I’ve had in years. I went here for breakfast and dinner while staying at the hotel next door. My new go-to spot! Excellent food and service. The sashimi of the day for 2 was incredibly fresh and delicious - the tuna literally melted in my mouth! The "sushi bombs" prepared by the chef were outstanding, including eel, sea urchin, and squid. We finished with some delicious fried chicken, cooked to order. All this in a low-key, minimalist setting in the Lower East Side. Go!“
“Luis, Yasu and the team at U Omakase are fantastic. The food is incredible, the vibes immaculate (solid playlist), and the experience memorable. My wife and I have been to many of the top Omakase spots in NYC/Brooklyn and I can definitively say that U Omakase is by far provides the best value, vibes, service, and tasty / inspired food. Luis and team are clearly passionate about the food, explain each dish and if you ask will tell you all about why different culinary choices were made. Oh and the ability to BYOB and bring a nice bottle of wine without breaking the bank is awesome too. We'll definitely be back.“
“Had a very enjoyable dinner here on a Monday night. We weren’t rushed at all and our waitress was really sweet. I loved the lotus flower salad and the steamed gyozas were really great - I would never have usually ordered these two dishes so I was pleasantly surprised. The sushi was fresh and the sashimi also had good flavor. Finally the vanilla mochi ice cream melted in my mouth! Such a treat and all for a very reasonable price when sharing dishes.“
“Our meal at IWAK was good enough to call it a Williamsburg gem after one try. Great rolls, pork buns, and sake. The service and atmosphere felt more reminiscent of Japan than a number of other sushi spots.Excited to have a new sushi favorite nearby!“
“I was visiting from Florida to see family and we decided to come here for my birthday. I haven’t been back since Chef David left and I was a bit nervous of coming back but I went for it anyways, all I can say is WOW! From Bob Moses playing in the background to the exceptional hospitality and delicious Omakase. I can say I’ll be back every time I visit thank you Sushi Dojo you truly are a gem!“
“We've been here almost 10 times in the past 6 months. The entire experience is truly excellent. All of the staff are fantastic — extremely kind and helpful. The food is 10/10 delicious — very fresh and perfectly garnished. We love the variety and differences in menu each time we come, and love how consistently excellent the food and service always is. This is a can't miss omakase.“
“This was our first omakase experience and it was top notch. Super courteous staff, restaurant had a very zen-like experience, and the food was delicious! We had the Omakase 15 and every piece of sushi was mouthwatering. We also had some salmon with teriyaki, which our infant enjoyed very much. My friend also talked us into the flash fried prawn, which was unexpectedly terrific!Kid-friendliness: Came with an infant and they put us in an empty room where it was a little quieter, worked out very nicely.“
“My family and I went to the Lobster club for dinner and in short it was amazing. The food was so unique but soo delicious, there wagyu dishes especially. Of course we had to get a lobster dish which we ended up getting two orders of, the restaurant itself is so beautiful. As soon as you walk in you see a beautiful scenery. The service was good cant complain about anything they were able to accommodate for my moms birthday and bring out a cake which was very nice and there dessert selection is very unique as well! Overall I would definitely come back, this restaurant is definitely on the pricer side but it definitely worth it once you take that first bite!“
“Always, and I mean ALWAYS SO GOD! Sir Yato has been coming here since before here was a sir and more of a kiddo. How many years now? 7+. I still have my photo up from one of my many date nights here. The food is always so good! The sushi, the kitchen entrees, etc etc! Always amazing! I won't go anywhere else for Japanese expect here! Yato wishes this place outlives him!“
“Finally! A good quality Kosher dairy restaurant in greatneck! Although it’s called Dagim they have way more non fish options than you’d think a restaurant specializing in delicious sushi and fish would have. Everything was amazing. I never had fish that fresh in my life. Service was good the ambiance made you feel like you were dining somewhere in Manhattan. Definitely will be coming back to Dagim!!!Vegetarian options: They had great pastas to choose from, the appetizers and salads were greatKid-friendliness: I had to bring my baby, although we were a small group, they made sure to give us a table big enough where a stroller would fit and we would still be able to dine comfortably“
“Literally translated as "I will leave it up to you," omakase is a traditional Japanese sushi experience where the chefs select the finest seasonal ingredients and guide you through a timed tasting of the some of the highest quality sushi in the world.Omakase is a traditional Japanese sushi experience - the guests can enjoy an up-close and intimate culinary journey, where fresh seasonal ingredients are used to curate a mouth-watering and innovative tasting menu that will leave you wanting more. The Chemistry Room is an innovative and modern take on traditional Japanese cuisine. The tasting menu begins with hearty smoked miso soup with botan ebi base and konbu seaweed tofu, followed by baby white shrimp topped with ikura, persimmon, and lotus root. I loved the plump sea scallop with caviar, oroshi ponzu, and shaved truffle, as well as lean bluefin tuna with a dollop of tofu sauce. Another standout was the torched tile fish with crispy scales and broccolini. #Chefskiss! The next round of innovative hot dishes before the sushi included sake cured mullet roe with angel hair pasta and goma soy, savory mushroom medley rice with koji marinated oyster and truffle, and deep-fried fresh water eel topped with foie gras snow. The next round of omakase items features nigiri, including Sea Bream topped with konbu salt and lemon zest, smoked ocean trout with sakura leaf and crispy leeks, medium fatty tuna topped with white truffle infused quail egg, striped jack with tosazu vineger, fatty tuna with osetra caviar and gold flakes, sra urchin with tempura shishito and salmon ikura, and snow crab with pumpkin.Omakase - just leave it to the chef to guide your culinary journey and trust the process. “This seafood market is like the hidden gem of Park Slope, Brooklyn. The sushi here is delicious, fresh, and savory! It's also better priced than the restaurants, and whole foods sushi so you can't beat that!Pisces Fish Market also has a large variety of fresh seafood you can purchase to cook at home. They have all kind of seasonings for sale as well (local and imported options). The owner David is very sweet! He always greets me when I am walking in the neighborhood, and loves small talk.I definitely recommend this spot for your seafood needs.“
“Me and my date went here last week and it was such a great experience!! From the very start until we ended, the staff was lovely and accommodating. Not to mention the fish being amazing. It was a true once in a lifetime culinary experience. In addition, our waitress Vivian was beyond lovely. She made great reccs, was attentive, and so kind. It all was very authentic from the no shoes, sitting on the floor, to the stunning hand crafted food and unique flavor pairings. We had such a great time and am so happy we went!“
“Fantastic, unique, highest-quality sushi (the chirashi bowl with snow crab, uni, and caviar was a real highlight).A few things to keep in mind if you’re trying to watch the spend: they’ll offer you sparkling or still ($12 pp), but there’s a pitcher of iced water right there…just ask for tap. And when they offer you the opportunity to revisit one piece of fish from the omakase or try a nightly special (we were offered wagyu beef), just know it’s extra - in our case, $35 per piece. So we accidentally spent a cool $95 extra, and the suggested (well deserved) tip is 23%. We each got a glass of sake ($30 ea) and hot tea ($9 ea), so when all was set and done it was $750 for 2 of us.Last quibbles in an otherwise great night: the ambience is pretty austere, especially because there’s a sushi counter that’s dark/unused behind the main counter. And 6-8 ppl will get to eat with Chef Cheng while the other 10 or so will be served by one of two sous chefs. If you can request Chef Cheng, that does seem to be a different experience - though our sous chef was very professional & knowledgeable.Tl;dr: You won’t get higher-quality fish in any of those $400 per person spots in Manhattan, but watch out for a few hidden costs.“
“sugarfish never disappoints. the minute we walked in we were greeted by two of the nicest and most kind and helpful people; eva (main host) and wendy (manager). their job is quite stressful with customers that lack patience BUT eva and wendy handled themselves (and their customers) with such patience and grace. i also want management to know that sean (runner) was/is also exceptional. such a good guy and sooo hardworking. sugarfish, you are so fortunate to have eva, wendy and sean on your side. thank them for us. we appreciated the whole experience.“
“Today I ordered from here for the first time, trying a new sushi spot in my area. I have to say, amazin and fresh. I will definitely be ordering from here again. The service was also great. They forgot to put soy sauce in my order, simple mistake and they sent it over ASAP.I thank them for that. Recommended for great food and service!“
