“Maki Kosaka has a lot of great things going for it, but has a few misses that make me unable to rate it the full 5 stars. A great note to start: I was able to get a reservation here day-of on a Friday night for 2 people easily. When you walk in, it's a 2 section restaurant with a small bar/waiting area up front, and a huge space in the back with the counter wrapping around the center chef space. Honestly surprised me how nice it looked. I ordered the grab roll set. 5 pieces rolls for $38. Most add ons are about $8-10, unless you get something more premium. While the price point for the set wasn't super high, I did expect slightly larger rolls. It was barely larger than a nigiri, just with more rice, and often too much sauce. I will say: the seaweed wraps used here are probably the best I've had. The fish - I can't say the same. Almost every fish from the set lacked unctuousness, and it felt like they were trying to make up for a cheaper cut by adding fats like avocado and mayo. I also ordered the crab and ikura roll, and the seared scallop roll. The crab and ikura was good, but a bit heavy on the mayo, and the seared scallop was texturally nice, but missing sweetness from the scallop. Uni roll was an $18 add on, and while satisfying to have uni, I've definitely had better in nyc. I think fish could've been a bit less mashed, with less sauce to really taste the flavor and textural difference. Finally, a pro and a con: service was FAST. Maybe a little too fast. The chef was pre-preparing rolls on the side in whatever order he wanted, and immediately setting the next roll on our plates before we were even done chewing the previous roll. We were able avoid feeling rushed by just not eating the roll immediately, but still felt like we couldn't wait too long if we didn't want to affect the freshness of the piece. I wish he would have slowed down to check in with us, rather than run away and get started on the next orders immediately. At least the wait staff was incredibly welcoming and patient with me and my friends' slow ordering speed. Didn't feel rushed to get out at all. Overall, good, but not great.“

“Not a huge fan of their ramen. Got the classic tonkatsu ramen. The soup base has too strong of dashi flavor which overpowers the tonkatsu flavor. The charsu were super thinly sliced, lack depth and flavor. Not charred. I've been to hundreds of ramen joint both here in the states and Japan. This one is good but nothing to rave about.“

“We celebrated our anniversary at this amazing place! At the beginning, I was impressed by the person at the front. She took our jackets and led us to our table. We even did not ask where the toilets were, because she provided us that information. Our server Kritwamorpan provided an amazing service! She explained the menu, was extremely friendly and made our evening! Probably, one of the best services that we've had!We ordered Toro Shoyu and Gindara Yuan as appetizers! They were delicious!Futo Maki were tasty, but I would not order them again. Because of their size. They were failing apart. As a main dish we chose Salmon Ikura Donabe. It was delicious! Which is the perfect size for 2 people. Our server Kritwamorpan brought it and did a small show of mixing everything together! She was so attentive that filled our plates again when we finished 1st time.As a dessert we took Panna Cotta. It was tasty and not a big portion. At the end of the dinner, we were so impressed when we got our celebration present! So lovely experience! This place is amazing!P.S. I was surprised that tips are starting with 18% for such top notch service! In comparison to other places, where staff is less attentive and they have bigger tips suggestions.“

The fish was absolutely amazing, with the perfect amount of soy sauce/wasabi (real wasabi, not horseradish like some places). The fatty tuna was a particular highlight. The seating was typical Japanese style with an L shaped counter and you can see the sushi chefs preparing the food. We tried a few of their sakes, and they were all excellent. We came for my sister-in-law’s birthday and they gave us a free glass of a very good sake to celebrate. The staff was very helpful and friendly and the sushi chefs were fantastic. “Best Sushi restaurant in NYC! Omg the sushi are all fresh and everything taste good!! Location: It is located in Houston St. The interior is very intimate, but you can wear casual. I wear scrubs (coming from work, im a nurse). Lot of seatings and there is a bar. Service: our server was nice, explains well the sushi that we are eating. The girl in the front desk looked at me and my friend because we are wearing scrubs as if she does not want us to enter. Food: you have to order DOMAKASE! It has everything that you need to eat here! Lol everything is good! My faves are TUNA CONE: omg so good, the spicy mayo is inside the cone as if that is the ice cream and tuna is just so fresh on top. ROASTED CAULIFLOWER: cauliflower never tasted this good, and you can eat the green pea miso spread on its own, that is how good it is. SCALLOP RISOTTO: omg this was the bomb! It will be cooked in front of you! It taste like paella but so much better! KABAYAKI: omg the seabass is sweet as if you are not eating a fish! DONBURI: even though the daikon soup is just a little bit, the wagyu don is soo good! CHEF’s CHOICE SUSHI: everything was delicious and fresh, im not sure the names are but they all good, my favorite was the toro sushi. SPICY TUNA HANDROLL: so good too! Not that spicy. CRABMEAT with CRUNCH SEAWEED: reminds me of tacos because of the crunch! BLACK SESAME PANNA COTTA: my fave cause the black sesame has earthy taste and the panna cotta is so silky smooth. HOJICHA PUDDING: taste like tea and the pudding was so soft, melts in the mouth. PEACH LYCHEE: omg so good, the sake is little bit strong but the combination of the peach and lychee is perfect. WATERMELON COOLER: so refreshing and light. Price rating: 8/10, thats the only thing cause its Michelin Restaurant it will be expensive, but it is so good! Definitely will come back here! If it is your first time go for DOMOKASE. Get the scallop risotto too!“

The uni and ikura oyster was to die for! The eel hand roll at the end was very memorable and I don’t always love eel. We got the 2oz sake pairing. They also had a 3oz option. As someone who handles their alcohol pretty well, I was quite tipsy by the end. So I would say it’s safe to just get the 2oz option. All of the sake paired great with the fish and at the end, they gave us lots of extra sake! Overall delicious food with friendly chefs!“

“TLDR (4.5/5) The only reason I did a (-0.5) is because the line can get busy and VERY long. I mean everybody wants to stay for a while for a reason! The vibe is fantastic! Going in from the walk down to the entrance into a very compact but full of life bar environment. You get to sit down and enjoy some pretty great food for a bar. (The Crab Croquette is insane! The Dessert just hits the spot because it's huge!) The drinks are above average with rather standard drink pricing. There is a lot of variety in terms of Japanese Whiskey. You really come here for the vibes, it just has this charm with the toy train going at the top, the jazz band playing in the back, and the ambient lighting around sporadically placed objects of random knickknacks! You won't regret going here for a unique experience, if you can get in haha!Warning: There is a $10 fee just to go in as a fee for the live band.Band stops playing around 1AM-2AMFood (4.5/5): Mentioned it before but the Crab Croquette blew my mind! It's so freaking hot though so please be careful and don't burn your tongue haha. It's basically this really decadent hot crab cream inside that just explodes with flavor. Easily a must get along with the Hot Honey Toast if you are a lover of desserts. That thing is easily meant for two people and it's delicious. Not the best dessert but unique enough to stand on it's own. For savory foods, can never go wrong with the okonomiyaki. That comes out fresh as hell and it was cold out at the time sooo it is a bit biased. Was it the best, no, was it damn good, yes. Yaki soba was good and I think personally the onigiri's were lacking(2.5/5). The Fried curry croquette was very standard, like we're talking (3/5) for that. As a bar, the food is definitely a stand out for here.Service(4/5): Service was wonderful. The individuals might seem a bit rushed but everyone is Japanese. They can understand English but they constantly deal with the massive line. Can definitely see some people being offended at the line with how they operate but there is a language barrier. There is a reason why it's (5/5). At the end of the day they are nice and courteous. You can crack jokes with them and there are no complaints. It really isn't a restaurant so don't expect water refills all the time. This is a Jazz Bar at the end of the day so you got to keep those expectations there.Reminder: I am Asian, does that mean there is a bias, maybe, just maybe. P.S. They are really really nice to other people not just Asians. That was a joke earlier hahaDecor and Ambiance (4.5/5): It gives that Cowboy Bebop vibe if you know it. If you don't, imagine hole-in-the-wall, hard-boiled detective style, midnight sit down and relax at 12AM with the moon out vibe. Could also be a cute date spot but it gets loud. The Jazz isn't peak performance but it does it's job at adding to the ambiance. The bar is fantastic and has personality. The decor around the whole place is adorable. Each corner is different from one another. A mini train that goes around one corner to this old fish tank with random items inside. It's great! Chairs are comfy but not mind-blowing. Ambient lighting is a plus but terrible for food pictures. It's really hard to get it right. Bathroom is clean. Can confirm bathroom is clean and it's a little tight to get there but it's not bad.Overall (4.5/5)Nonetheless, for sure this is a place I'll revisit in the future. The line is long but it's worth it once in a while. Especially if it is your first time, I'd say it's worth the visit just come early or late enough to avoid the big lines. If you are looking for a bar crawl and are around the area, this is a solid choice. You can't go wrong with a little Tomi Jazz in your life. If the line is huge I'd say you have better chances somewhere else but if it's small, you are in for a lovely treat!“

“My friend and I stopped in for dinner recently. It's a cozy ambiance with chill tunes. I feel like Chef Parsley invited us into her personal home and prepared a home-cooked meal for us. My time dining at Chopped Parsley made me forget that I was in Hamilton Heights, and more like I was in a small mountain-town eatery. I believe the absence of delivery motorists contributed to the peacefulness I experienced at Chopped Parsley. Highly recommended and I will be back!“

“Truly enjoyed my first omakase experience. I got so lucky to have Yama-san to be my chef for the night. His skills were amazing and each nigiri was served with a smile and hospitality. I am sure there are omakases out there that deserve the highest praises but for me, I’ll hold this experience dear because each and every course I had were so heartwarming and I could see the integrity in Yama-san as a sushi chef. I came to this omakase alone but I did not feel as such because he made me feel welcomed. I did not think I would learn so much in an hour, while being served food. It was such a delightful experience. I hope to have him again next time I visit NYC.“

“I discovered Shinn East when they first opened either right before or during Covid. Till this date, this spot is my go to omakase given their high value for money offering. It is extremely well priced for the amount of pieces that you get and the quality and freshness of their fish is excellent. Service is also excellent. Both indoor and outdoor seating are really good. Highly recommend.“

“This place is fantastic! Much-needed for the neighborhood - incredible staff, food, and ambience. The sake selection is unique and extensive, and the sushi was the best I’ve had in years. I went here for breakfast and dinner while staying at the hotel next door. My new go-to spot! Excellent food and service. The sashimi of the day for 2 was incredibly fresh and delicious - the tuna literally melted in my mouth! The "sushi bombs" prepared by the chef were outstanding, including eel, sea urchin, and squid. We finished with some delicious fried chicken, cooked to order. All this in a low-key, minimalist setting in the Lower East Side. Go!“

“'Twas a pleasant experience. Itamae DC made my experience a good one as this omakase dinner was one to remember with the unique and innovative courses that I have never had before. This was the first time I had potato chips on any of my omakase courses. Fish was fresh and exceptionally prepared. Atmosphere was different from other restaurants like this, but that is okay. Getting out of my comfort zone - that's our purpose of living, right?Itamae DC was down to earth and made conversation, which made me feel very welcomed during my dinner here. Prices are reasonable for experiences like this in the city.“

“I came here with a friend on a weekday night around 6:30PM with a reservation and we both enjoyed this place! For drinks, we ordered a Kiwi Chu-hi & Straweberry Chu-hi (I think that’s what they were called). Pretty refreshing, the flavors were subtle but still tasted good. For food, we ordered the Mentai Gnocchi, Citrus Salmon, and Tonton Hot Pot. The gnocchi was super soft and the mentaiko flavor was strong & really good. The citrus salmon was refreshing and delicious. The hot pot… 10/10!! It was full of vegetables and the broth was flavorful. When you have a little bit of broth and toppings left, they ask if you want to add rice or noodles (small or large size). We got a small size udon and it was lovely ?For dessert, we ordered the Kocha Cheese Cake, Roasted Goma Ice Cream. The ice cream was pretty good and I don’t even like sesame lol. The cheesecake was soft and light, it tasted good.I would definitely come back again to try their other dishes!“
