“I have ordered from Sushi Karu a few times. The first two times I got delivery. They packaged the food very well and it arrived quickly. The last time I picked it up myself. Each time I was very pleased with the food. The portions, if not huge are nevertheless generous. I had never been inside - there is no place to sit and eat. I think the place could use some updating but it's otherwise fine. I'd give the place 5 stars if it felt a little more orderly. I recommend this place for good sushi. I only had stuff that didn't have fish though so I am not commenting on that.“
“Amazing service, friendly atmosphere, delicious and fresh food, cheap price, and lovable staff. The chef introduced my sister to sushi with a special hand roll. One of the best sushi places in uptown Toronto!Kid-friendliness: Super nice and great for kids who love sushi“
“An absolute hidden gem!I stumbled across this sushi place when I was in the area and craving sushi, and it was a great decision. The restaurant itself is quite small, they do first come first serve dine in. Atmosphere wise, there was nothing special about it. It was a very ‘mom & pop’ restaurant vibe but don’t let the interior fool you as their food was amazing.I gave 3/5 for service as they weren’t that attentive, maybe because our table was tucked in a corner at the front of the restaurant? We did have to wave down the server for our order to be taken and to get the bill (never checked up on us during our meal). We ordered the Salmon Teriyaki Bento Box & Yakiniku Bulgogi Bento Box. The bento boxes come with green salad, vegetable tempura, gyoza, rice & miso soup so great deal for the portions as well! We also got the Spicy Salmon Roll & Salmon Sashimi, along with a Spicy California Handroll & Edamame. Now I can be quite picky about sushi places and the freshness of the fish… but I can say that I was blown away with how wonderful everything tasted & how fresh the fish was. Beef & salmon were well cooked, and the batter on the tempura was nice and light. Wowwww! Sushi Zuki is definitely a MUST TRY sushi place when you’re in the area. I guarantee they will not disappoint - I’ll be coming back again to try some of their other dishes (like their Yuki Udon which comes on a sizzling plate). Some things to note:- 10% off take-out order (cash only)- Chip card only - no tap“
“My favourite restaurant in the area to get sushi for pickup. The rolls are fresh and good quality at a reasonable price. They have plenty of seating for dine in, but it seems to me that the majority of their business is pickup as I rarely see a large group of people eating in. My only complaint is that they always take longer than they quote to complete your order. I would recommend adding 10 min to whatever you are told over the phone when you order.“
“The food was much better than expected and the presentation of the sashimi was fantastic. Quite a few options for food whether you're feeling sushi or other options. It's nice that there's an AYCE option in this area. They've added a lot of great options!“
“The atmosphere was calm and chill . But the main part was the food . it was amazing we tried the salmon avado sushi pizza I recommend you to try it .with dessert its going the best food ever and also the service was amazingthe food Is from heaven ?? ?“
“Where the east meets west. Indulge in the finest sea urchins, bluefin tuna belly, and freshly prepared wasabi—all at an unparalleled value. Immerse yourself in the ambiance and engage with the chef for a richer experience, enhanced further if you can speak a bit of Japanese.“
“got the brown donkatsu for takeout at $22! as with the other reviews, the portions are really good and everything is so savoury! i especially liked the hint of sweet potato in the batter of the katsu and thought that the sauce was absolutely delicious, would highly recommend“
“Lovely little restaurant on Laird, near McRae. Fulsome sushi menu but also some nice bento selections. Very tasty, satisfying, and at a great price. Pork katsu, chicken teriyaki, and tempura selections were delicious. Give yourself a treat and try Kintako!“
“HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Our five-year-old daughter spotted the place; so on a whim we tried it, and we love it. Now we come as a family all the time. There is such a wide variety of food choices, everything is so tasty. Little Kamaria’s favourite is the Seafood Bat Pizza, I can’t get enough of the Korean wings. Mom loves their unique take on Nachos. Each visit we’ll try another new dish! The staff are super friendly too.“
“This was the best dining experience of my life. The multidimensional balance of flavour, texture, and temperature was an experience that delighted the senses in a new way for me. We did the full omakase and sake pairing. It's worth every cent. Staff and service were perfectly refined and welcoming. Thanks Yasu!! I will return for sure“
“so far i’d say this is the best sushi i’ve had in toronto! very high quality ingredients, very reasonably priced for what you get. perfect portion sizes and they have lots of creative rolls! and the vegetarian options go way beyond the standard fare. the service is always incredibly friendly! extra points for the presentation always being beautiful and unique compared to other sushi places. i’ll always go here to pick up sushi for special occasions!“
“Craving sushi for dinner and found this take out spot. The restaurant looks nice and smells like it has good sushi, so I decided to try a few things. The Maki platter B seems to feature a different selection of rolls over time, but I had California roll, yam tempura roll, spicy salmon roll, salmon avocado roll, mad crab roll, double shrimp roll and dynamite roll. The first 4 rolls are common among sushi restaurants so I will not be reviewing those here. The rice is pretty well done, neither too sweet or sour.My favourite is the mad crab roll is a shrimp tempura roll with shredded imitation crab and spicy mayo on top. The sauce does not overpower the rest of the components. The shredded crab adds sweetness to the otherwise simply crunchy roll.Double shrimp is a close second, with two shrimp tempura in the middle and 1 cooked shrimp with torched mayo on top. This is such an excellent idea to add more shrimp flavour into the maki. Not on the menu online, is the zenku udon, a simple dashi broth udon with fish cake and deep fried tofu pocket. This is not simply a udon, but a warm flavourful delight that you can't easily find around town. I highly recommend ordering that to eat with sushi.Lastly, the highlight of the meal is their spicy salmon yubu tart. It is a recently popularized way of enjoying a rice ball adjacent product. The spicy salmon is enhanced by small bits of onion and green onion mixed together. The sweet tofu skin exterior rounds out the general flavour of the rice ball, such that soy sauce or wasabi are not necessary.I am very surprised by the quality of the food and can't wait to be back to try bento, donburi and tempura when I'm in the neighborhood. This is an excellent take out sushi restaurant that I would highly recommend to friends.“
“Exceptional food, service and atmosphere. A perfect trifecta. A must repeat restaurant for us.Special note for any music lovers or audiophiles, the sound system and acoustics are ?️ dialed in here... So a good choice for those who like their ears to be pleased while dining. ??(McIntosh amplification, JBL speakers with iso acoustic pucks etc...).Thank you Imanishi Japanese Kitchen! “
“I come here a couple times a week on my lunch break. The service is amazing, the food is even better. They’re very accommodating and fast. I love coming here. there’s lots of other sushi restaurants nearby, this is the first one i’ve been to in the area and I don’t even wanna try any of the other ones near here. this is great sushi. if you’re looking for reasonably priced, delicious food this is your spot.“
“There are many fine sushi restaurants in the GTA and Kibo is a franchise chain, but it consistently delivers. Temper expectations to good sushi and maki at reasonable prices and it is worthy of a pretty solid review. Does it stand up to singular and dedicated sushi chefs? There is a reason why we have so many Michelin-rated Japanese and sushi restaurants locally. So Kibo isn’t competing with those … but it’s still good.“
“The place is so different than the last day I came here. There’s less Izakaya and more like sushi bar menu. Service is good, the server is kind and explain in details about the food. The oyster is delicious, but I do miss the more Izakaya-kind of food.“
“Dining in was an unforgettable experience, greatly enhanced by our waiter, Dee, whose service was exceptional. She guided us through the menu with expertise, suggesting dishes like fresh sashimi, and irresistible grilled octopus.Dee's attentiveness made our visit special. She ensured our glasses were always full and our table laden with delectable dishes. Her passion and knowledge about the cuisine added a personal touch that made our dining experience stand out.In short, the restaurant is a gem worth visiting for its delicious food and outstanding service, especially from Dee. We left promising to return soon.“
“Visited on a Wednesday afternoon after the rush lunch hours because we are in town for a concert and are very happy with our choice. We picked the wagyu beef udon and the curry katsu udon and both are super delicious. Both served hot, it is ideal for the chilly+rainy day we visited.Service is great and the deco made you feel like one just travelled to Japan for a short trip.If I must say something that the place can improve on, it would be the chairs they chose for the seaters along the wall. whole having an arm made it comfortable, it is not really meant for chubbier people like myself. When all three tables are occupied (which it were at the tike we visited), it is almost impossible to get out of the seat without bugging/touching the customer behind you. This will be on our can visit again list!“
“What can i say, a magical place with incredible staff. Who will always be there for you in a heartbeat. Not to mention mouth watering food that touches both your heart and has the stomach saying thanks. All and all its a gem which you must come and try.“
“Best sushi I’ve ever had! So, so good! Fresh, tasty, premium. The exceptional experience starts with the packaging. Just a really sleek presentation box and organization of the sushi, wasabi, soy and ginger. Even the chopsticks were better quality than what you usually get. Will definitely be back to order more!“
“My sisters and I love shopping for food and drinks here! Their bubble tea is amazing, a great variety too, and the sushi is well-priced and delicious. I love the interior decor too, usually when I'm waiting for our drinks I just like observing everything around me. Friendly service too!“
“There food is delicious! My favorite is the Sukiyaki wafu. It seemed weird ordering a pasta at a Japanese restaurant but it's fushion and so good that I get cravings all the time. There sushi tacos are also really good. It's wrapped in tempura dipped seaweed, which I wish I could recreate at home. The price is expensive so I don't get it as often as I would like, but it's totally worth the price.“
“This has got to be the BEST Japanese Sushi place in Toronto! First time here and they did not dissapoint! Our server Jane was beyond our expectations! Great service Thank You! And the food was absolutely delicious not to mention the presentation.“
“SAKU has been one of my favourite sushi spots for years. I'm so glad they are still around and offering great food and drink options! We recently stopped by for their Happy Hour special which is from 9pm til close. They have $6 sushi, apps, and $6 drinks and $10 cocktails! Incredible deal! The service was great and food hit the spot. I love all of the Neon lights and anime posters ?“
“We definitely enjoyed our meal at August 8. The food was aesthetically pleasing, tasty, and properly prepared.I rated the service only 4 out of 5 stars because our table was often overlooked, and we didn't receive all of our first order until we had asked three different servers (20 minutes after the first part of our order was delivered to the table) if it had been forgotten. They also only give you 90 minutes to eat lunch, 90 minutes goes very quickly, especially because they control the time in which they bring out your meals. Therefore you're not getting quite the value of your money, and feel as though you have to dine quickly. The restaurant is very clean, as are the washrooms (in my experience, this is usually Telltale sign whether or not the kitchen would be clean!)There are tons of food options, and from what I saw on our plates, as well as other tables the food comes out fresh.I would definitely recommend this restaurant.Ps, don't let your eyes be too big for your belly. If you don't finish the food on your plate, they will charge you extra for it. Drinks are also an additional cost to the "all you can eat" mealWheelchair accessibility: I don't imagine this restaurant would be wheelchair accessible as the only bathrooms that I saw were in the basement. Otherwise, a wheelchair could come in to the restaurant, but the area is tight with tables.“
“Went here for a second time and have to say it is a 10/10 spot for sushi. They've moved away from dine in but they still allow you to eat in on the takeout containers. Portions are great and quality is especially good.Music choices were also great!“
“Minimal, cozy atmosphere with enough seating space for parties of all sizes. Great portions, good quality ingredients. Plenty of menu options but not enough to overwhelm, plus the waitstaff are attentive and efficient. I’ve had great experiences here with family and friends.“
“I recently dined at a sushi restaurant that left me truly impressed. The freshness of the food was unparalleled; each piece of fish tasted like it was just caught moments before being served. The precision in which the rice was cooked was remarkable, achieving the perfect texture and flavor to complement the fish. However, what truly set this restaurant apart was the service. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to ensure a delightful dining experience. From recommending dishes to promptly refilling drinks, their professionalism and friendliness were exceptional.Overall, I highly recommend this sushi restaurant for anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. The combination of fresh, delicious food and outstanding service makes it a standout choice.“
“Discovering this quaint restaurant was an absolute delight! Despite its size, the quality of every dish surpassed our expectations. Each ingredient tasted remarkably fresh, a testament to the chef's commitment to excellence. What truly sets this place apart, however, is the warmth and hospitality of the owner. Their genuine kindness added an extra layer of enjoyment to our dining experience.I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment to anyone seeking a memorable culinary adventure. It's the kind of place you can't help but share with friends, knowing they'll appreciate the exceptional dining experience as much as you did.“
“Got the Maki sushi and sashimi platter and it was pretty good! We appreciated the miso soup and salad that was included. The selection of rolls and sashimi was pretty good as well. In terms of fish quality, I would say it was pretty average. Not amazing but definitely still good tasting, although one of the sashimi (the torched one? not sure what fish) was SUPER tough and dry and chewy. Also, we are not gluten-free or vegan but it's really cool that this restaurant offers those options!Overall, enjoyed our meal! ?“
“This place is great! I’ve had the veggie bento a few times and it’s always delicious and so cute! Love that they offer reusable takeout containers now too! The store also has a great little selection of Japanese/Korean groceries. The frozen ramen kits they stock are especially good. A real neighborhood gem!“
“This sushi joint truly lives up to its rating. Service is friendly and unrushed both over the phone for take out and in person. I simply have to tell them how many people and our preferences, and they will prepare exactly what you want. Their menu is simply a suggestion, you can ask for anything (sushi, lol). It's a bit more expensive but you truly, absolutely get what you pay for. There are other sushi places in the area with high rankings but Sushi Land blows them out of the water.“
“If you want to dine in a big restaurant where you can get big serving sizes and see servers and other customers pass by you then this is not your place. This restaurant offers private and personal dining experience that is hard to find in Toronto. The restaurant is small with only 9 seats. We dined with another couple and each group got one server and the host was also taking care of us. The service is excellent and meeting my expectations. We tried the spring menu this time and I love the aged blue fin tuna, squid, monkfish liver, and Hokkaido sea urchin. The portion size is small but you can't feel hungry as you get many dishes. The food is high in quality and sourced from Japan. The chef skills are amazing and he has a great sense of humor. I will definitely comeback to try the menu in different seasons. Thank you team, you guys did a great job!“
“A tiniest place with the most fresh sushi!I guess my Mom and I got lucky to get a table. Every other person who came in after us got turned away because they had reservations. There is lots of people in and out either looking for a table or takeout. The staff were very nice and always available for your needs. The food was delicious and flavorful.Food came fast and very hot (temperature). I love my food very hot, so this made me very happy.Parking was a bit of a challenge. There are no spots on the main road. You can park on the side streets but will have to walk to the main road which isn’t far, but on a cold or wet day it might not be ideal for some.Parking: Parking was a bit of a challenge. There are no spots on the main road. “Great ambience, friendly staff and tasty food. Really love the beef tataki , beef tartare and salmon tartare. Ingredients are very fresh. Love the mentaiko Caesar salad; tasty and fresh. Will definitely try other selections on the menu next time.“
“i love this place, it’s so good!!! and they recently redid their menu to be smaller and less expensive, which is incredible. i love the variety in the boxes. i’m from vancouver so i have big sushi opinions lmao and there’s not much in toronto that really cuts it, but this place is unique and affordable and way better than lots of toronto sushi. we got the tasting box (my favourite), the spicy lover, and beef gyoza (which are better than pork imo i’m not a huge fan of pork)“
“Absolutely phenomenal experience at Kibo Sushi! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm hospitality and seated promptly. The ambiance was inviting and very nice. Each dish was beautifully presented and tasted incredibly fresh. The sushi was a true standout, with a perfect balance of textures and flavors in every bite. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable, offering great recommendations and ensuring we had everything we needed throughout our meal. Overall, Kibo Sushi exceeded all expectations, and I can't wait to return for another unforgettable dining experience.“
“Great value, lovely atmosphere & service, and most importantly, incredible food. The sushi was fresh and super flavourful, the takoyaki was one of the best I’ve ever had, the homemade gyoza & miso soup were dynamite. Will definitely be coming back!“
“Amazing sushi restaurant. Excellent quality ingredients, good fish to rice ratio and they even gave me some free spring rolls on my first order! One thing to note: the spicy salmon roll is actually spicy (although not incredibly so) so if you are sensitive to spice may want to opt for their non-spicy rolls. 5 stars!Vegetarian options: Yam, veggie and cucumber rolls“
“This place is a cute little spot with good food! I got the Bulgogi club sandwich. They also have a self serve coffee section. The owners are very kind. They make you feel right at home. I’m glad places like this are still around in the neighbourhood. Will be back soon! ☺️“
“I always wanted to come here for brunch every time I passed by. Honestly I was so impressed by the flavor. I LOVE that they fully understand the taste of Japan.I started off with Japanese squash salad with sesame dressing. I was already satisfied with the first dish. All of the dishes seemed really good but I got seafood spaghetti (spicy pollack roe, shrimp ) and miso mushrooms spaghetti. The taste reminded me of the time when I was in Japan…. These two are very unique pastas you can try here. At the end, I got red beans french toasts. This was die for? I don’t know how they make this but it just had the best combination of everything.. I felt like I could eat this infinitely. I think they rotate the flavors depending on season. One thing to mention, you should make a reservation beforehand since it’s a tiny place and the fact that it was packed on typical Monday. You can also be on the wait list but need to wait at least 20-30mins if it’s busy. I even saw people who already had a reservation but were waiting for the seats. I don’t know how they ended up like that. Anyways, I recommend people to book it before going.“
“It’s a must go if you are in Toronto or near the Chefs Hall, located in a quiet and cosy corner, Iwami gave us a fantastic lunch experience. Everything is so fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. Tommy the Chef is so passionate about cooking and serving the clients, his creativity and talent are well demonstrated in the selection of ingredients and different layers of flavor. Highly recommended for casual lunch or dinner. Will go back for sure next time when I am in Toronto.“
“Amazing amazing. Amazing!!!! My gf took me here for my birthday and this was the best sushi I’ve eaten outside of Japan and I’ve eaten at many sushi places in Toronto over the years. For the price and quality you can’t beat this - the servers are even Japanese. Amazing premium nigiri we ordered was definitely worth paying more for premium. Service amazing and just wanted to say thanks as it was my birthday and they served me ice cream and cheesecake. Can’t wait to come back!!! Thanks Shibui!!!“
“Chotto Matte is a must try. The food was absolutely amazing. The Amazonian salmon is a culinary masterpiece, the wagyu beef gyoza magnificent, the tempura shrimp were amazing with the sauce provided, while the spicy chicken karaage wasn’t great flavor wise the texture was a bit off putting it was perfectly crunchy on the outside but a bit slimy on the inside, the pineapple pomegranate duck breast was delicious - extremely flavorful, though we were not a fan of the pork and shrimp gyoza they eagerly replaced them with another wagyu beef gyoza. The service is outstanding. The wait staff and busser were extremely attentive, our water glasses didn’t stay empty long the moment they notices they refilled without prompting and finished plates were removed from the table.“
“Easily the most authentic sushi experience in Toronto, it felt like being back in Japan on vacation. The staff is amazing, sitting at the chefs counter gives you a first hand experience on the creation process. You will leave satisfied and happy.“
“Amazing food , amazing waitress , amazing atmosphere We have been here for the first time and definitely recommend this place.Everything was so tasty and the lady that attended us was super friendly ❤️❤️❤️Love it, love it, love it !!“
“Their vegan options are not just delicious but also unique! I have been to Japan but I never saw a miso eggplant flavour onigiri (if it does exist maybe I just missed it every time???) but it was so delicious here. Dango was also super tasty. ALMOST as good as fresh street food in Japan but not quite ?Vegetarian options: They have several vegetarian/vegan options. The eggplant miso is vegan and the shiso plum onigiri is vegan 100% for sure because we asked the chefs.“
“This place was amazing! This is definitely a must try in Toronto. The food was amazing from the quality, service, and the taste. They were so quick to serve our food and the owners were so friendly. The food tasted so fresh and they gave such generous portions. Definitely will be coming back again.“
