This place is a vibe. You walk in- cracked self-leveling cement floors, dim lighting with a soft red glow, turn to see a low ceiling room which can be described as a teen girls bedroom when you look up "romantic bedroom ideas" on Pinterest. Black stick tiled ceiling with a damask pattern. Plain walls with hanging Christmas lights and heart wreaths. Big glass windows with no curtains.Host wears a beanie with a wrinkled white tee and cargo pants. Vibe.Tables are glass topped with black underneath. Black cloth napkins. Nice silver toned silverware. Two page menu, pretty pricy, we order two appetizers, two drinks, and a shared entree.$7 mild house salsa- definitely medium spice lvl if you have a pasty skin complexion. It was tasty.Chorizo queso with tortillas - fantastic.$30 Carne asada- three thin cuts of absolutely delicious steak. A bowl of warmed up canned beans. Very good but small scoop of rice. So-so guacamole, and a side of delicious spicy sauce. Needed more than three tortillas. Tasty but not worth $30.Margarita was $15, it was strong and tasty but didn't feel like it should cost $15. His aqua was delicious and well priced at $5.I think the flan for dessert was $9? Small but absolutely delicious. All together $90. It felt ridiculous paying that much to be honest. The steak, chorizo, and flan were good. Everything else was mid. The atmosphere was laughable. Endearing.Staff was kind. They felt cool and hip. Again, this place is a vibe. If you want fine dining in a teen girl bedroom served by a guy in cargo pants then come here!

Hands down best Mexican food in town. My husband and I have been ordering take out from them for a long time, and finally decided to go eat at the restaurant. Felt like we were eating at someone’s home. So personal and such a homey feeling inside. They did a great job with the ambiance. Such a chill place to go eat at. Delicious food and drinks. The service was on point and very attentive. By far my fav spot. I crave their potato tacos called the Mini Crunch. And when the Elote is in season. Yummmmmm. Love 1960!

I just love this family owned and run place! Alejandro, the son, does everything - meets and greets, takes your order, serves your drinks and makes sure all is well. He always remembers my special drink! As for the food, yummy!!! I enjoyed the tacos this particular time - Chorizo, pollo and adobada. The pineapple in the pollo is such a nice contrasting flavor. My husband ordered the carne asada and really enjoyed it. The portion size meant he basically made four tacos with the meat, beans, rice and guacamole.I was pretty full so took home a flan. So good! They recently remodeled and things look really sharp. You definitely need to try them.

Yum!!! I want this place all the time. The food is so good, the salsa is something I could drink, because I loved it so much! We're sad that we didn't come more on empty stomachs because everything sounded so good. Everything was so fresh and full of flavor. The service was great and fast. The inside was very nice and a good date spot! Can't wait to come back soon!

Ordered the chips and salsa, house margaritas, chicken enchiladas, and tacos. Everything was excellent. Service was great. Wife’s only complaint was that the place could have been darker for being a little on the fancy side.

This is a "pinky up" restaurant. Actually, a two "pinky-up". The rice was spot on, the flautas and tacos were very good. The corn tortillas were homemade & excellent! Overall the food was very good. The atmosphere is quiet and reserved. However, if you're looking for a place to have an animated conversation, laugh loudly and long, or enjoy a good Mexican beer, this isn't the place for you. The beer - Modelo. No Dos XX. No Tecate. No Corona. No Pacifico- no other option. The refried beans, let me say that again - refried beans, thick, non-runny - were served in a small bowl. The only beans that should be served in a bowl are frijoles charros, or frijoles de la olla. So, if you are trying for that presumidio persona, este es el lugar! You can impress all your compadres by paying double for the higher-class taco presentation. The food was so good, honestly, but I don't think us mid-to upper-class Tex-Mex folks, are the real target audience.

Ambiance is slightly upper scale Mexican with cloth napkins and modern and sparse furniture with about 9 tables inside. There was one man serving, bussing and taking care of customers and all tables were taken on a Thursday evening. He did a great job!The food was very bland in my opinion. I has 3 tacos, one with shrimp which was delicious, one with pork and pineapple which was ok and one with cactus which was awful bland. No rice, no beans, just 2 slices of carrots and a slice of radish....($18). My husbands carne asada was the better dish with steak grilled nicely. The tortilla needed more salt. ($29) My sons Birria was so disappointing: the beef was tender but absolutely flavorless. We all tasted it and found it the worst Birria , and Mexican beef, we ever had. ($27). He had been to central Mexico and was really looking forward to it but unfortunately it did not deliver. All in all, rather disappointing.

Food is really good. It tastes clean and not overly heavy. Small little place so get there early. I love that it is a family run business with high quality Mexican food.

Food was bland. Not sure how they have the highest rated Mexican restaurant in Eugene, because it was far from good. Portions were small too. I ordered the Chile relleno dish, and an extra taco and was still hungry. You have to pay $7 for a tiny bowl of salsa too if you want it, and they didn't even serve it with chips. I wouldn't go back.

While visiting Eugene, my husband and I chose 1960 Cocina. It was a great dinner. We both had the Pollo Asado. Grilled chicken served with a lime crema sauce, rice, beans, guacamole & corn tortillas. It was superb. Flavorful chicken, delicious sauce, tasty sides. Service was friendly and attentive. Lovely atmosphere and decor. We loved it. Food service was quick. Highly recommend.

Place has been renovated since the last time I was there. Good food but overly spicy for my preference so I knocked off one star.

1960 Cocina was a lovely restaurant that I can enthusiastically recommend. The food was fresh and beautifully prepared, including meat from Long's Market. The salsa verde was zesty and well-balanced, with the brightness you would expect from a salsa verde and a smooth, velvety texture. Both of us ordered tacos and gorditas, which clearly were made from scratch (our server/host confirmed that they were).Speaking of our server, he mentioned that he and his family own the restaurant, and that all the food is made according to their family recipes. Furthermore, our server was really kind and warm, and it was clear that he took quiet pride in being able to serve his family's beautiful food. All in all, it was a memorable meal, and we will definitely be back.Parking: It was easy to find parking in the lot by the restaurant.
