“So glad I was able to try out this place. This place definitely lives up to its reviews. The packaging is so efficient and so cute. You get a cute carry out bag that is reusable, and it fits so much. I also loved that the utensil packaging came with a floss pick to make sure you don't have seaweed stuck in your teeth! Onto the food... I ordered the unagi don because I love unagi, and this bowl did not disappoint. I ended up adding some sliced cucumbers that I had in my fridge. The unagi is a generous portion and is quite flavorful. Because we did do carry out, the rice did get a little clumpy in texture. I would still get it again though My husband got the salmon don with extra fish (2oz). I think the extra 2oz is a necessary amount of fish, which can make the bowl a little spend but the fish quality was good. Overall I would come back again and try some of the other dons and poke bowls, but the unagi don may still be my go to... Definitely check this place out if you're in th“
“Found this spot via Instagram and it lives up to the hype. Tons of unique rolls to choose from as well as plenty of non-sushi appetizers and entreés like Udon. The sashimi and tamari (nigiri) was very fresh and delicious. We will definitely come back to try the set courses. Sake list is small but there are options for everyone, ranging from dry to sweet, and they have a good selection of Japanese wiskeys. Our server, Becca, was kind and very helpful for our first time experience. (pictured) bluefin akami, bluefin otoro, and hamachi tamari, Blazer and Salmon Twist rolls.“
“After reading so good reviews of this place, this was on my must try out list when in PDX.The restaurant owner is a very sweet guy. Our order was ready on time. Now the rolls… They were amazing. We had lime roll and spicy jackfruit roll. Both were too good. Jackfruit one was such unique one to try. All the flavours were balanced. Why 4 stars… We found a piece of a metal in one of the roll. We had our kiddo enjoying these and it would have been a big mess if it was accidentally swallowed.Apart from this one thing, everything was good. Will try other items on the menu when in pdx next time.“
“We have the impression that Japanese restaurants are expensive while not offering authentic taste, but the chef here has good taste. Lunch prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is elegant. We had the Braised Pork Belly, Tonkatsu Curry, and Bento Box (Salmon Teriyaki, California Roll, and Shrimp Tempura). Unfortunately, the shrimp tempura in the bento box was a 'deep fried shrimp' than Japanese TEMPURA, and the cutlet in the curry was disappointingly thin and lacked juiciness. Additionally, red pickled ginger is not used in Japan, as it tends to overshadow the curry's flavor. If FUKUJINZUKE, a classic curry accompaniment, is unavailable, it might be better to serve the curry without any side. (By the way, red pickled ginger makes an excellent garnish for beef bowls.??) The staff was so pleasant.?✨“
“This might be the best poke bowl I've ever had! I opted for brown rice, salmon & scallops, ginger infused soy sauce, and jalapenos. The seasoning and sauce added to the poke bowl - it did not dominate the taste. The generous portions of salmon and scallops were very fresh. The whole bowl was very filling. Growing up on Oahu, I've had my share of poke bowls. This was definitely the best poke bowl I've had here in the Pacific Northwest and maybe even the best poke bowl I've ever had.“
“Had a lovely early dinner here before a show at Moda on a Thursday. Service was prompt, extremely knowledgeable, and everyone was so kind and helpful. I have the palate of a five year old child so I stuck to the basics but the others in my party had much more elaborate selections that they loved! All around delicious and fresh dishes, plus you can balance out your meal with some donuts, right next door ?“
“SERIOUSLY so impressed. Came in today and let the kind gentleman to surprise us. We also ordered the uni lovers bowl. Total for us was $198 but the sushi was definitely some of the best and most fresh we had. We will be back. Price reflects quality. We are SO happy to finally try this restaurant.“
“Hands down the best dinner experience I had on my trip to Portland - and I went to Han Oak be Laangbaan so really the bar was high! Intimate but approachable setting, great service, and quality fish. Our chef was thoughtful and informative without being too overbearing, and we were able to have a nice family meal while learning about the ingredients and engaging with the experience. Would recommend and will be back! Not cheap but worth the price point.“
“Fantastic place for sushi. Many unique rolls more than we could choose so we will be back. Exceptionally friendly service. Very clean and well thought out atmosphere. Third sushi place I've been to on this side of town and this is the only one I'll keep coming back to.“
“Attentive service in a cool atmosphere, family friendly but elegant, and of course the food is amazing! Sushi is the main idea, but even the "land food" and vegetarian items are top-notch.Kid-friendliness: Kids are served and included with care and consideration.“
“Love love love EVERYTHING about Sushi Mazi. Food, absolutely delicious! My most favorites are classic aged ahi tuna, blue fin tuna top with black garlic, salmon skin appetizer and sushi salad. Will be able to stop in Portland without coming here. I understand why they have so many regulars, the staffs and owners are so warm and wonderful. Recommend trying their wide range of sake. Cheers!“
“stopped by for late lunch and tried their bento based on the great reviews (lunch pricing ends at 3pm). the food was super fresh and yummy! ordering is via QR code on the tables. the server was kind and checked on us. sashimi and sushi were fresh. the spicy chicken serving was probably twice the size of what i usually get in a bento. i ended up bringing most of the chicken & rice home and had them for dinner. this meal fed me all day!“
“We had the hotel california and the ocean bounty way. They both tasted great and each one would be more than enough for a meal for one person.I really hope enough people discover this place to keep it in business - there are a lot more rolls I want to try!“
“I got the lunch combo with two rolls with miso soup and added the cucumber salad. Food was good, staff were nice. There is bar like seating and table seating also. There are signs asking for you to remove your dishes when you are finished eating, many customers did not observe/acknowledge this. Decor is very nice, light, and colorful. Loved the fake cherry blossom tree with the tiny table and bench and the design on the bowl. Nice details“
“The atmosphere and food I received at this location of sushi edo was absolutely top notch. The service was absolutely perfect. As well as we lucked out and came during happy hour from 2-5 pm where all the conveyer items were only $2.50 per plate daily amazing deal.I will recommend as well as be returning for more frequently. This was my wife's first sushi experience and she is now a fan of the delicious food Japan has brought to us.Thank you for everything keep up the good work sushi edo.“
“Clean, cute sushi shop with friendly service and interesting sushi rolls. Rolls are large and portions are generous, though a bit heavy on the rice. Seating available for dine in, though we saw many customers ordering take out. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and would consider coming again!“
“Food:Definitely captures the homemade Japanese taste! I love how the fish is very fresh & the quality for the food is indeed exceptional!Service:Staff are responsive in terms of orders, well mannered, & are welcoming!Atmosphere:I always loved visiting to Kashiwagi, give me a nice traditional Mom & Pop Sushi bar feeling that captures a Japanese hometown experience, would recommend heavily to those who wish to try sushi for the 1st time!“
“Super stoked to have a solid Chinese takeout style spot so close to me. The lunch special was a great price and the portions were perfect. The food was quality. I’m a sucker for crispy beef and was super pleased with my order.Crab puffs was killer as well“
“Such a great place for local sushi. They have a reasonable selection of rolls, fresh fish, fresh rice, and a kind hostess. This is a place I treat my family when we're all desperate for salmon nigiri. I recommend trying one of their house special rolls if you want something fried, something decadent, or something a little out there (King Kong roll).“
“The food is excellent and the staff is very nice! Also, they fulfill as ordered. A very welcome addition to the neighborhood! (PS - I want to add we've actually gotten food four times here so far, consistently a pleasure as stated, so not just a one-time thing!)“
“The guy behind the counter forgot to pack my rice in the to-go bag the other day and ran out into the parking to flag me down to give it to me. I feel like a lot of places today wouldn’t even bother. The service is great and the food is quite good. I’ve never had a bad experience from this restaurant.“
“We moved to the neighborhood 6 months ago and have eaten here or done takeout 4-5 times. Sushi is always fresh and delicious but the atmosphere is lacking with the bright lights and television on. We will probably have it to go in the future.“
“I've had Nodoguro on my must-try list for a while, and I'm so happy my boyfriend took me here for my birthday. The atmosphere was intimate, and the overall experience was great. I enjoyed every dish. Definitely planning to return for special occasions.“
“Nice sushi experience. I am a sushi lover but this place offered new flavors and textures that I have never had. I tried the green machine as many people posted pictures so it seemed popular and I had to try. It was a bit sweet for me but still interesting and good. The big island was really good, very unique flavors. I have never had a sushi roll with chrunchy peppers. Spicy edamame was spicy! Good but spicy so if you are a bit wimpy don't get it. I will be back to try new rolls!“
“i think this is the best poke as far as value goes in the city. you get so much in a bowl for about the price you’d pay anywhere else. super fast and the fish is definitely quality. i got the northwest bowl and will gladly be back to get it again. such a good mix of ingredients!“
“I was walking toward the river and I found this place . It's a cute small street food spot and the owner is so friendly. The service doesn't take long but it works like this : you order , he makes your food , you pay and then it's the next person turn . I ordered chicken yakisoba noodle. Good portion . Good price , taste good . But it was greasy and very salty. That's the reason I gave 4 stars . I am not living in Portland. Otherwise I would go there again .“
“I would love to give this place five stars. They're are often not open during their scheduled business hours. I've been here multiple times in the last few weeks at 12:00, which is when they say they open yet they are closed. I'm sitting here right now at 12:15 and their food truck is closed.“
“We have enjoyed Yoko's sushi for almost 20 years. The fish is always fresh, and the combinations are delicious. We love Taka's Tuna, Hamachi nigiri, Thai roll and Samon nigiri. I recommend arriving early, sitting at the sushi bar and watching Yoko work. Try some of the affordable sakes available. We've enjoyed every one we tried.“
“Go here for an authentic old school Japanese sushi house experience! Ingredients are top notch. With specials featuring the best of the catch. I look forward to going back with a large group. And straying a bit further off of the standard items.“
“Seriously the freshest and tastier sushi I found in Portland! Loved the Chirachi Bowl I got, came with salmon, tuna, white fish, shrimp, octopus, avocado and a few other stuff. Lots of rice too, good portion for the price! Can’t wait to try more things from their menu!“
“Just finished ished another meal here and it was great again. Food, service, and atmosphere is wonderful. Music playing in the background isn't too loud. Fish is really fresh and rice to fish ratio is on point. Love the staff, they are really attentive.“
“Sushi burrito? That may not sound appealing at first (it didn’t to me) but Rollin Fresh gets it right. This is not your typical sushi place but that’s what makes it special. Instead of ordering and eating sushi piece by little piece, they put a lot of sushi together for you and wrap it so you can eat it like a burrito. This is an excellent and surprisingly good Portland find.“
“My favorite sushi place in the area. The servers are all so sweet and the food is excellent. The ramen is amazing too, which is surprising considering ramen at sushi bars usually feels more like an afterthought. I’m a frequent customer here and I’ve yet to ever have any issues.“
“We went here for the first time last week. We are moving into the Woodstock neighborhood and we knew we'd have to find a new sushi spot. Shoko pleasantly surprised us with the quality of the food, wide menu selection, and extremely friendly staff. I'm sure we will become regulars!“
“Partner brought me here for my birthday dinner. It was an incredible experience purely based on the fact that I have never had that quality of sushi before. We definitely paid top price for it, but if you're willing, it's worth it.Later on in the meal a group came in that was way too loud, which was unfortunate cause the restaurant had a quiet, zen like atmosphere to it prior. Even so, great spot.“
“Small place. Some outdoor seats available. But today, some folks from my office made our orders online and some people went to pick it up. I ordered a Tiger roll and California roll. Everything tasted fresh and the portions were generous. Very worth the price for the quality.“
“Love this place! The sushi offers pretty generous portions of fish. So far, its the best sushi we've found in the area. All the options are delicious and taste fresh. The salmon melts in your mouth. Our favorite is the TNT roll; it comes piled real high with crab and tuna.Decided to write this review when I ordered from the Powell location online and was called within a few minutes of placing my order by the other location. They apologized and said that the Powell location was doing a catered event and wasn't able to do any takeout that night, but they would make my order and deliver it to my door for free. They worked as fast as they could and got it to my front door at the same time it was originally supposed to be ready, even though the delivery person had to drive all the way across the city. Their customer service was absolutely great! Also, the sushi was soooo good!Just really appreciate these guys. Definitely our go-to sushi spot in town. Also, if you haven't been in the market that this store is located within, it's worth a look. They have everything there, and you'll for sure end up walking out with something!“
“Such a great experience! Delicious food served with enthusiasm. I love it when the people who work at a place are excited about what they do! The gentleman who helped us made great suggestions and we ended up with an assortment of rolls that were just delightful. Definitely would recommend!“
“I had sushi and a wagyu burger, no bun! I had a Dew Drop which was heavily perfect with the finest sugar rim I’ve ever tasted! The bar tender is super friendly very knowledgeable and kind. The best location for a date night after you could enjoy the moon light and the downtown atmosphere.“
“My whole family loves this place! The sushi burritos are fresh and flavorful, kid friendly (my 7yo loves the Hawaiian Roll with mango in it), and they also serve some delicious rolls you can order on the side. We're so happy to have this in our neighborhood, and it's the main reason we visit this food cart pod.“
“They reopened under parking structure 2 right next to La Casita and Cafe Ole!Their food is pretty solid! Some of the better sushi burritos for sure. Tried the Sumo Kick and it's very tasty. Super fresh ingredients and everything went together very well. Great portion for the price.Totally would be back to try more!“
“We love sushi… coming from Hawaii. I wasn’t expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality & variety of fish. Their hamachi & salmon toro was delicious…I’d say it’s comparable to Masu but 1/2 the price. So you’re looking to down some sushi and not break the wallet. This is perfect.“
“Last week I was at the Convention Center for a conference, and a few of us came here for lunch. I ordered a combo platter for lunch, which included a Salmon Belly skewer. Seriously, it was the best salmon I've ever had. Just now, a week later, I thought of it again and had to call the restaurant to find out what it was. Go here, eat, be happy!“
“The OG location. Stellar as always. Loving the availability and freshness of Uni these days. May seem crazy to order a burger at a sushi spot, do it, you won’t be disappointed. Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna was also a table favorite.Vegetarian options: Ask about rolls that can be made vegan. More options than you might think!“
“Very good food but every time I get a Philadelphia roll they do not put any cream cheese in it, not a little, just none. This has been an issue over the years, consistently every time I order they don't get it right, both take out and dine in. One of the main reasons why I ordered it was for the cream cheese, it's vital to this roll.I used to be a regular, but once I had mentioned it I became the cream cheese guy, oh look here comes the guy who wants the right ingredients in his roll. I didn't want to be but now ever time I show up they ensure I really want extra cream cheese, I don't, I just wanted it in the roll it should be in. Ordered again today and guess what, not a single bit of cream cheese in my rolls, tired of trying over the years for them to get this right.“
“This is my go to lunch spot as they're fast, fresh, and a great value!Staff is casual and friendly.I really appreciate the generous cuts of fish. I think the sushi chefs do a great job for such quick service model. As with any conveyorbelt sushi, there's a chance you get something that has been sitting a while. I can generally discern that (and I know my faves), so I've only had good experiences.“
“I always forget how much better Takahashi is than the super fast "train" places are (which always fill the void, the quality just isn't as high.) Staff here is very quick, responsive and friendly. We visited on a Wednesday night when they offer 25% off the sushi menu (frontside). Makes it a pretty good deal! My husband and I ate our fill, and we both had lunch leftovers. The fish here is SO nice; top quality, appropriately sized cuts for nigiri and very fresh. The tempura items are cooked perfectly. My favorite nigiri is the seared salmon. Check their hours before heading out. We always forget they are closed on Monday/Tuesday.“
“Came here for happy hour and was able to be seated right away. It was summer time so we sat in their breezy patio area. We ordered a few items from the HH menu and regular sushi menu. The fish was fresh. Our service was fantastic! Pro tip: HH is all day Sunday.“
“My friend highly recommended this sushi place to me. I'm glad that I did try here!! The quality far surpasses what we paid for. The server was really welcoming and the atmosphere felt relaxed. I can confidently say it's one of the best neighborhood sushi restaurants in Portland. Also, the happy hour offers GREAT value. We indulged in hamachi rolls, monkey brain, tempura, gyoza, sake, and beer, all for just $43! Hamachi role was my favorite for sure.I will return for their freshly delivered uni on some weekend.“
“Life is short! Please treat yourself kindly and get a reservation to this place! I sat at the sushi bar and I really enjoyed watching the master chef skillfully prepare some exquisite food, every action was like carefully orchestrated! Not only did he have to create an edible delicacy out of chunky piece of fish, but also turn it into a piece of art, from selecting the plate, to adding all the fine details onto the fish, the subtle flavors and the harmony! And I got to watch it all happen in front of my eyes! This place is near where I live, so the situation is quite dangerous now, lol!“
