We had brisket, chicken and turkey. It was not the best smoked brisket I had. Meat was tender but didn't see the smoke line and lacking smoked flavor. Turkey was dry and so was chicken. Lot of publicity of this place, so wanted to check it off the bucket list while at Charleston. Try Blind Tiger, it was a good place.

Oh, Rodney Scott's. Anytime I visit my cousin this is the first thing we have to do. It's more like I'm driving up for the restraint and my cousin is also around, joking joking. Anyway, the food is off the chain in my opinion. The ribs are really good, but you can find better in some hole-in-the-wall place. The stand out is actually the BBQ, sides and sauce. I think a lot of places over look chopped BBQ, it's a priority here. The chopped chicken is sooo tender and flavorful because they use the whole bird instead of just the breast. The mac is super cheesy and the collards are tangy and juicy, like super Carolina style. All of the sauces are very nice, but they are all a little spicy so be careful. Oh, and the chicken wings are also great. Now anything this good comes with a price, literally here. This place is damn expensive if you get any besides the 2 meat combo. Besides when I went by myself I have spent over $70 every time! It's cool that they have a drive thru, but my order is always missing a side or 2 when I use it, and it's super slow. I would say just go inside, but parking is pretty limited so it can be pretty frustrating. In my experience getting the food will probably be annoying, but in my SUBJECTIVE opinion it's like one of if not the best BBQ places out there.

Was happy to support a black owned business and I love BBQ. So even after reading a review that said pretty much the same thing Im going to say, we still went. We went around 6p on a Saturday and the wait wasn't too bad, gave us time to peruse the menu. It was a nice day so we decided to sit outside. Two outside areas, one near the drive-thru and another in front of the restaurant. I had the pulled, whole hog plate and 3 sides, it came with 2 but I got an extra. Also, cornbread was included with each plate. I chose mac and cheese, collards, and coleslaw. Paid...unfortunately there's no google/apple pay option. Food arrived quickly, under 10 min. It was warm-ish. Mac and cheese was good. Seasoned nicely, tasted homemade. Coleslaw...is coleslaw, but it was ok not too sweet, not tangy but creamy. Bbq was bland, not seasoned enough. There were two sauces, and I tasted before adding anything. So I added Rodney's sauce, and it made the Bbq bland and sauce covered. I didn't add Kathy's sauce but instead added tabasco, which is the only thing that helped, sadly. Just don't add too much like I did. The collards were also not seasoned well, and they were tender-ish but not mushy. But no spices/seasoning.

I have brought many tourists to this establishment. I've heard lots of great reviews from my colleagues . I've finally embraced the time to have dinner with colleagues while on site for work. Everything was fresh. Flavorful & Filling. Yes , I cleared my plate. The line grew swiftly & Service was on top of it. Inside & Outside dinning is Available.

The food was delicious! I have no idea what the white sauce is but OMG it was so good. Then the fries (the best) and the chicken was perfectly seasoned and perfectly smoked. And the wings, WOW! If you come to Charleston check out this lowkey spot for some good food.

Great Whole Hog BBQ Spot, tasty fare in cool setting and vibe. Not sure who decided the portion size when it comes to fries, but it needs to be revisited (they were super tasty, but my wife literally got 9 French Fries in her paper boat). No cocktails, just beer.

Honestly expected more from all the hype. It was good BBQ but not exceptional. Sides were also good but nothing to rave about, just normal\average. Hushpuppies were great - not overly dense inside. Decent sized portions . I'm glad we tried it, but I won't rush back.

I've eaten a lot of BBQ in my life. We often drive 10hours round trip in a day to get Saint Louis BBQ. We'd just left the IAAM who recommended that we visit Rodney Scott's. Lemme tell you, this is THE BEST BBQ I've had in decades!!!!!The best part is that you can taste the smoke, the charcoal/wood in the meat. Not only that, you can see the time, attention, and experience in every slice of meat. As first timers, we got the platter for a little bit of everything. Ribs, pulled pork, whole hog, brisket, chicken, and turkey, plus potato salad, hush puppies, corn bread, greens, and mac and cheese. The sides did not last long because everything was so delicious. I loved the mustardy kick of the potato salad. I meant to get another macaroni to go, but we were in a happy delirium by the time we boxed up our leftovers and staggered to the door. I peeked into the smokehouse, in awe of the process, and thanked the grillmasters. Just WOW.The brisket has a succulent bark that literally dissolves. The meat is so soft from the slow cooking that you barely need to chew. And the color! Deep caramelized red seeps into the flesh to create a textbook perfect smoke ring. I don't usually reach for poultry when purchasing BBQ, but Rodney Scott's changed my mind. I have NEVER had a better smoked turkey. Even the chicken was juicy and tender, with all the deliciousness of the smoke and seasonings. The ribs weren't my favorite. I would have liked mine cooked longer for more of a fall-off-the-bone experience, but my partner thought they were perfect. The flavor was spot on. Consistent with everything else on the plate: juicy, smokey, woodsy, oh so flavorful. I just prefer the connective tissues on mine rendered down more. There was simply an abundance of goodness on our plates. The cornbread was so dense and tender, drizzled with a beautiful honey butter. The greens were dark and tender with a wonderful chew. The hush puppies were like sweet corn fritters. Such a treat!Nothing we had needed sauce. The house seasonings and cooking style combined for a stellar bite. It's too far to add to our foody day trips, but we'll be back!Parking: Small lot, but there is drive-thru.

We sat in line for about 40 minutes before ordering... We ordered and sat in line for 35 min for them to come to the window and said they're out of meat and if we would be like turkey or a refund. We asked for a refund and sat for 15 min for someone to give us our $53 back. That was our first time we were visiting.

I recently visited Rodney Scott's BBQ in Charleston, South Carolina, and regrettably, I must share that my experience was less than satisfactory. The food, which has been highly praised by many, felt overwhelmingly mediocre to me. The flavors did not live up to the hype, leaving much to be desired from a barbecue establishment with such a strong reputation.Adding to the disappointment was an error with our order. The kids' chicken wings were not only incorrect but also took an excessive amount of time to be served—nearly 30 minutes of waiting, which dampened the dining experience further. For a family-friendly restaurant, such delays and mistakes are particularly disheartening.Given the anticipation and the reputation of Rodney Scott's BBQ as a highlight of Charleston's culinary scene, the experience was a letdown. It's disheartening to say, but if this is considered the pinnacle of barbecue in Charleston, I would suggest prospective visitors temper their expectations or explore other dining options. The city surely has a lot more to offer, and it might be worth looking beyond this establishment for a memorable meal.
