“Sometimes (almost all the time) my husband and I just go to the beach so that we can stop at Dunleavy’s after the beach. It’s cash only so plan ahead, but we enjoy the cold beer, delicious popcorn, and their amazing chili. This place is a staple. My husband also loves the chicken salad sandwich. Please bring back the apple Bold Rock, and I may never leave (but I’ll enjoy the Miller Lite in the meantime!).“
“We love coming here and the food is amazing but my boyfriend and I came for lunch and sat at the bar. We didn’t even get acknowledged for about 15 minutes by the bartender so we left. As an F&B employee and also being a bartender I would’ve never let a customer sit there for that long without even a hello. I understand being busy but there were maybe 5 people sitting at the bar. Do better.“
“First time dining at Anson Restaurant and we absolutely loved everything about this place. Lovely atmosphere, great service and amazing food. Peter was our waiter, he was so personable and made great recommendations. Lobster Buccatini and She Crab Soup 10/10. We will be returning here!!“
“Our family stopped in for dinner about 8:30pm. It was still quite busy, but had no trouble getting a table right away. The kids ordered the short ribs and chicken alfredo pasta. They said it was good, but that they've had better. My wife and I ordered the shrimp and grits, which were outstanding. There is plenty of parking, but you have to be sure you park on their lot to avoid being towed. They have signs posted and if you aren't sure if you parked in the right place just ask somebody when you go inside.Parking: There is plenty of parking, but you have to be sure you park on their lot to avoid being towed. “The restaurant seems to be showing its age. The gnocchi is still great. The atmosphere, service, and other dishes are in decline. At the price point there are better options in Charleston. They have removed the lime cream puff from the menu, if you are/were a fan of it.“
“Absolutely fantastic experience at The Establishment. The food was really awesome, but what really set this restaurant above its competitors was the level of service. All the wait staff, everyone, was phenomenally well trained and did an exceptional job. This was our first time going, but it's now on my short list of favorite restaurants in Charleston. Very, very highly recommended.“
“Our favorite restaurant during our time in Charleston! I wish we would’ve done the chef courses menu to get more variety, but everything we ordered was perfect. So creative and a great use of seasonal and local produce. You can tell there’s so much thought and care put into each dish. Expect to spend about $80 a person, but it’s so worth it.Our waiter was incredible and made our night so much better! Definitely get the butterscotch pudding if they still have it on their menu! :)“
“Very good restaurant, great if visiting with a young childWent to Husk with wife and 2 year old. Got a nice table on the porch first floor, which was great given the weather.Excellent waiter, very knowledgeable. Food was very good, we really enjoyed it. We did not drink too much much so we ended up with $200 for two. This is a way to visit an higher class restaurant if coming with family, this is an almost cosy place with great food which doesn't take it too serious. We'll come back.“
“Excellent food and atmosphere. My favorite in all of Charleston. The fried chicken by itself is fantastic, and if you get it as a sandwhich it’s still fantastic. The char grilled oysters are fantastic, coming from someone who normally does not like oysters. The scalloped potatoes are fantastic as well. The grilled fish sandwhich was excellent.“
“After a day of wrangling kids at the aircraft carrier and the aquarium, I took my Sister here to relax and decompress. Our waitress, Lyla, absolutely made our experience. She was passionate about the menu and made sure our sister time was complimented by the perfect food and drinks. It was lovely to kick back for a bit here and enjoy the excellent food. We will definitely be back the next time we are in Charleston! The mango sorbet was the perfect finish to our day and was to die for!“
“We loved our experience here at Cru Cafe. Sally our server was excellent! Her smile and charm at so much to the atmosphere. I loved that they had a non alcoholic beverage too. The beer choices were excellent for our party too. The champagne drink was good tooParking: Easy peasy“
“Absolutely delicious food. We started with the s'mores and carrot cake and were not disappointed. So rich and delicious. We moved on to the fried sweet potato skins, topped with an arugula salad blend. So well balanced and fresh. The main course was the tomato pie. Honestly the best meal I've ever had in Charleston! Highly recommend!“
“A beautiful little restaurant that has it all. The service was fantastic and the ambiance perfect. The sourdough was fenominal. Flounder was amazing but many bites were over salted. Same issue with the rabit pasta being good but much too salty. The dessert - flourless cake was perfect! So glad we ordered it!Really only issue was the saltiness. I would definitely return though, its a lovely spot“
“Service was really good and friendly besides not getting the chips and queso we ordered. The food was also really good. I enjoyed the old fashioned rueben. The menu is regular pub type food with fish and chips being most popular followed by the shrimp basket per the waitress' opinion. Atmosphere was chill and comfortable. Make sure you put a dollar bill up somewhere!!!Vegetarian options: Blackbean burger along with an assortment of different salads.“
“First of all, WOW!We sat at the raw bar, served by Matt, Logan, and Colton. All three were helpful and knowledgeable about the menu from top to bottom. The cocktail sauce was the best I’ve ever had which is saying something! I had the Salmon, with garlic mashed potatoes and low country grits. Pro tip; squeeze a little lemon on top of the grits. Service, quality and atmosphere were incredible. If you like an alcoholic beverage, try the Bloody Mary or the Charleston Sunset. The Charleston Sunset isn’t overly sweet, but has a great flavor. I’m a sucker for a Bloody Mary, and like some spice that doesn’t overpower.I’m very impressed, and that doesn’t happen often. We wil definitely be returning from Charlotte for the experience again!Parking: There is a paid lot to the left. It’s $5 if your eating at Fleet Landing.“
“BEST restaurant I have ever been to and this is not an overstatement! The service was very professional and I felt like I was attending a classy dinner 138 years ago with my partner. World class chef who is very creative with his menu. The food is on the pricy end but the caliber of the food and service trumps it! The staff puts a lot of effort into what they do- I love their passion. Highly recommend!“
“I could not write this review fast enough. We had the pleasure of having Eric as our server last night. What an incredible guy. He greeted us by name, went over the entire menu page by page, offered recommendations for food and drink. We did the chef’s experience tasting menu and it was incredible. Eric went over each course and explained how it was prepared. Our bill after some drinks and tip was a bit over $400 but truly the best money I have ever spent for food and experience. Again, thank you to Eric for making our time in Charleston so memorable and if we are ever back we will be requesting him by name, he was truly wonderful. -The Fees“
“Amazing experience through and through. From the greeting on the porch, the intimate table setting, amazing service, and even more amazing food. This resteraunt really curates an excellent experience. Once you order everything at the beginning of your meal you can sit back and relax as the dishes roll out perfectly timed. The chefs delivered the dishes themselves and were as enthusiastic to explain them as we were to eat them. Our server was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and helped guide our choices. The menu on their website was definitely different than the one we were handed. Their menu rotates so frequently that their website lags behind, and that's a great thing. Don't let it scare you away from a reservation, but let it excite you for the surprises that await. We sat on the balcony of the back porch where there are only 3 tables and it was very private! This resteraunt is going into our list of required visits every time we visit the city. Absolutely try this place. You won't regret it.“
“We were lucky enough to get a recommendation by the Gullah culture story teller at Boone Hall Plantation.Parking is limited to wherever you can find a spot on the street. They have a little patio out front for extra seating. The restaurant is simple - wooden booths/chairs, nothing fancy. Really cool pics and artwork on the walls, though! Our waitress, Gabe, was delightful, cheery and thoughtful. She was as wonderfully entertaining as she was efficient! All six of us squished into a booth and ordered sweet teas, Arnold Palmers and Obamas (pink lemonade and sweet tea).We ordered the chicken livers and gizzards appetizers, the crab rice, pork chops, BBQ ribs, collard greens, Mac and cheese, red rice, cornbread and okra soup - (twisted gumbo). Y'all. It was the best damn food I've had in a month. (Some of my party didn't like the sweet cornbread. They were simply misguided in their wrong opinions.)Idk if it's because the food on the carnival cruise was so horrid, or because excellent real food (not cooked by my mama) is so hard to find in the wild, but I swear I fell in love with everyone in that restaurant. After paying my tab and tipping graciously, I waited outside for the rest of my party. I saw a beautiful lady with spectacular eyelashes by the side door. I sneaked over and asked her if she was the cook. Oh happy day, she was! I hugged her, and thanked her profusely, overjoyed to meet her. She is a national treasure and must be protected at all costs!Never have we had such a lovely dining experience - excellent food, exceptional service and wonderful staff. We felt like family! This place alone is worth the trip to Charleston!“
“When you are a local in this town it's always tough to find somewhere to feel at home and loved. There are so many options to choose from and so many places don't care about customer relations. Kudu is not one of them. They all smile when i walk in, greet me with a hello and even better i can tell they all like and appreciate one another. It does feel like home and i do feel loved.“
“One of the best dining experiences I have ever had! Menus was beautifully crafted and even prepared substitutions for my wife given her pregnancy. Amazing team that took care of us and got to know us personally in the 2-hour timeframe we were there. At the end, they surprised us with a hand-signed copy of our menu to help us commemorate such a great experience during our baby-moon.“
“They were very accommodating for my special diet. We came for a special occasion and I recently started a strict elimination diet. Honestly I was totally dreading this dinner bc I didn’t want to be “that girl” at the table questioning every ingredient. And I was fully expecting to have to sit and watch everyone else eat. But instead the chef came out, discussed my diet, and made sure there was an app, entree, and side that would be compatible with my restrictive diet. The food was delish (of course) but better than that was the fact that I could enjoy a meal with everyone else at the table.“
“I came there to listen to some jazz music with a decent meal. I ended up listening to an outstanding jazz trio. The food there was the biggest surprise. I am genuinely surprised that this restaurant does not have a Michelin star. I can especially recommend their flounder and a fragrant potato soup. Deserts were amazing as well, including mango candy made in-house.“
“I’ve eaten a lot of grits in my life and these are hands down the best I have ever had. Seriously. I don’t know what kind of witchcraft y’all have going on in that kitchen, but it’s incredible. They were creamy, salty, peppery, and cheesy. And my eggs, yall. How do you make eggs taste that good?! Thank you for making my day Little Line Kitchen. I’ll be back as soon as I can!“
“My partner and I just moved down from NYC ourselves and was looking for a great first place to eat. I did a quick search on Google Maps and saw the peculiar name which piqued our interest. After reading about the history of the restaurant and a quick menu glance, I knew this was the place. The outside is painted minimally, the patio was quaint, but nothing prepared us for the vibe inside. Such a great energy as soon as you walk in, everyone socializing and having a great time. It truly feels like you’re in a chic Brooklyn eatery. We were shown to our seats at the bar when we arrived and were swiftly greeted by the wonderful Dexter. His knowledge of the menu was astounding, but his drink making skills are impeccable! He perfectly executed what was being described and we enjoyed every single sip.Last but not certainly not least, the food. I don’t believe one can accurately describe how absolutely delicious these dishes were. Dexter said 3-4 plates would suffice for two people so we splurged and got 5.Stir-fry noodles: to die forField Greens: something so simple yet so full with flavorFried Kimchi: wonderfully addictingPork Dumplings: soft, plump, juicy, & spicy in all the right waysKaraage: I can eat every single day for the rest of my lifeAll in all, our experience left us completely and utterly satisfied, but wanting more in all the best ways. I knew I had to express my thoughts because as Biggie said “Spread Love, It’s the Brooklyn Way!”“
“Excellent local place for lunch or dinner. Rather caried menu, with breakfast all day, as well as lunch items. She crab soup was great, as was Strawberry Salad with Mahi. As the name implies, very dog friendly, and at least a third of the patrons sitting outside with us had their furry friends with them. Great place for a quick Friday brunch.Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly“
“We were visiting Charleston, and our family has a number of food allergies - milk, egg, peanuts, tree nuts, plus I'm gluten-free. We are accustomed to limited options, being disappointed, and risking allergic reactions when eating out. So, we were excited to try Basic Kitchen based on the reviews. The location is great. The staff is very welcoming and friendly and the ambience is nice. Loved the energy and the vibes from the staff and the restaurant decor. There were lots of options for us to eat and I felt very safe (for myself and my kids). Thai butternut & red lentil soup was yummy. My hubs got the yellow coconut curry with tofu and it was really good. The sweet potato fries with the vegan ranch were amazing (really the ranch...you have to try it).I ordered the Naughty Burger without cheese and on gluten-free bread and was underwhelmed. The beef was great, but they left off the onions and gave me a dollop of dijonnaise on sandwich bread (sliced bread). That's it. Sandwich bread, a dollop of dijonnaise, pickles, and 2 burger patties. It was dry and basic. I would have loved a gluten-free bun, the option of vegan cheese, and more condiments. My son enjoyed his Naughty Burger without modifications. It did come with a bun.Overall, I was pleased that no one had an allergic reaction, everyone had safe options, and the food was good. I just wasn't blown away and was disappointed with my Naughty Burger. I wish I didn't have to sacrifice flavor for safe food.If you don't have dietary restrictions, you'll likely love the food. It's fresh, quality food with great service!“
“Absolutely wonderful drinks and food! The food was delicious, high quality, and the drinks are very good too! I had the steak and eggs, I had to chew the steak a bit (probably just the cut of meat) but it was cooked right and very tasty! The truffle fries are ADDICTIVE! I also tasted the biscuits and gravy and salmon toast, everything was delicious! It’s a beautiful spot on the water.“
“Great place, excellent food, reasonably priced, and fantastic service. It's an absolute gem on James Island worthy of downtown Charleston. Never had something I didn't like. From a fine Charcuterie board to an Italian BLT... steak to chicken and waffles. Lovely outdoor seating area and an elegant yet comfortable bar. It's definitely worth a visit.“
“Wow, what an incredible restaurant! From the service to the atmosphere to the food, gee, it really hits all the marks! I want to express my gratitude to the incredible staff for making my visit absolutely incredible. I’ve talked so highly of this restaurant, and I haven’t even mentioned the incredible, high quality cups. From top to bottom, this may be the best restaurant ever!“
“We stumbled on to this awesome restaurant. The shrimp and polenta dish was one for the record books... so good! The staff is amazing, they even have a list of "staff favorites" of other restaurants. It was so good, we came back again during our very short stay!“
“Meh… we were slightly disappointed. Happy hour prices were good, but food was mediocre. I hate leaving less than stellar reviews but honesty is real. Service was great. Bartender was cool. Kitchen was timely. Beer was on happy hour, good prices, but it was not cold (I tried 3 different local beers, all were kinda warm). Food was so-so. I had the Nashville hot chicken sandwich; decent flavor, but not very Nashville hot. It was two chicken fingers on toast loaded with a sloppy coleslaw. I expected a side dish, but apparently it was a la carte (I didn’t realize until it was served). My coworker ordered the shrimp & grits; great flavor but not true grits. It was some kinda grit patty/cake. Presentation was good, just not as expected and she was slightly disappointed. Sandwich $16, shrimp & grits $23. Overall average experience, but the general consensus was that it’s overpriced. I would return and try something else but it would not be my first choice. Thank you.“
“Need reservations , this is an upscale restaurant and to enjoy the experience always nice to dress well but casual is fine here as well. The tables are well spaced out and the bar and tables are well spaced out They have a number of great waiters to help decision making as there are many interesting signature dishes The drinks and desert menu was good as well We had the steak verde and the cauliflower as the appetizer and the gnocchi, potato crusted grouper and peel Milanese as our main course Great service !“
“We took a day trip to Charleston on the Friday in April before the Cooper River Bridge Run. While we visited several other places, having lunch at Rodney Scott's Whole Hog BBQ was why I initiated this trip with my family. James Beard award winner, Southern Living's Best BBQ in SC and numerous TV food shows couldn't be wrong, right? We arrived around 12 and were able to use the shopping center parking lot across the street. As soon as I stepped out of the vehicle I could smell the aroma of the burning Hickory which started my mouth watering. The building itself has about 20 tables inside and a number of tables outside as well. On the day we visited the weather was absolutely taylor made for eating outside, sunny and cool with just enough breeze.Being that it was lunchtime, a line had formed which stretched back to the entrance. Menus were available to us when we entered, so we were able to decide on our course before we arrived at the register to order. They do accept credit cards. After a short wait of about 15 minutes, we placed our order and found a table inside. The menu included 2 options for their BBQ pulled pork, a Rodney's Original Whole Hog Plate or a Pulled Pork Shoulder (only) Plate. Well of course being that the name of the restaurant is Rodney Scott's Whole Hog BBQ, I had to try the Whole Hog Plate. Our family also tried the Pork Shoulder Plate, the Spare Ribs 1/2 rack plate, and the Smoked Chicken Wings. In my experience very seldom do high expectations result in great delivery. Most things pale in comparison to the bar of reality because they could never attain my level of satisfaction. This causes me to set the bar lower to prevent disappointment. However, sometimes I still set that bar high and hope for the best.... I went to Rodney Scott's with extremely high hopes. Thankfully my experience did not disappoint. The Whole Hog Plate came with my order of crinkle cut fries and cole slaw as well as a piece of cornbread. While the portion appeared small on the tray, it was the perfect sized amount. The BBQ was THE BEST I have ever had. The flavor was awesome and it was all inside the pork. There was no need for sauce on it, but I added some to try them. It appears on the dry side from the outside but when I put it in my mouth all of that flavor from the mopping with the vinegar and spices, laid on my taste buds and they screamed for more. They told me I was enjoying a work of art.The sauces were also very good, my favorite selection was Other Sauce, which was a great take on the vinegar & pepper Carolina style. The fries look and taste like they are seasoned with Rodney Scott's secret rub and they were fantastic. The Cole Slaw was not as flavorful as some but the large cuts of bell pepper sprinkled in gave it a delightful taste, different from most. I was also allowed to try one of the hush puppies off my son's plate and they too were unbelievable. They are a must try.The sweet tea was very sweet and the rest of my family preferred to cut it with a little unsweetened tea and they found their mix to be perfect. The other thing I loved about Rodney Scott's Whole Hog BBQ was the atmosphere. The staff was very polite and hospitable. The dining room has that feeling of "we're all sharing in this meal together" and we talked with folks at other tables during our meal there, which is not always normal at restaurants in this day in age.If you haven't been, I highly recommend you go, quickly! All the accolades they've received are right on target... Your taste buds can't repel flavor of this magnitude!“
“I ordered the Pulled Pork nachos and the Shrimp & Grits. I never thought I'd complain about too much nacho topping, but they were really hard to share as it was a huge chunk of cheese coating the toppings like a helmet & there wasn't enough chips. The shrimp & grits looked and smelled incredible. However, it was so over salted, I couldn't eat. Truly heartbreaking, as it probably would have been delicious with less salt. The waiter kindly removed it from our check. The bartender was great, but the bar was out of a lot of beers due to spring break.“
“Great bar/lounge in a relaxed setting on King's St. Nice ambiance to kick back with friends over modern cocktails. They take pride in their house made infusions and unique cocktail recipes. Over the top mixtures and formulas make up some of their wild flavorful concoctions! Bartenders are nice as well as the wait staff.“
“I posted I review some time ago about their chicken tenders, stating they have fallen short of their previous self. I am pushing 50 years old and have only ever posted 1 review in my life. This being the second. I am here to say, THEY ARE BACK! The new and improved tenders are so big, the breading just falls right off. The new GM/Head chef has surpassed the old!“
“Had Easter brunch here. Awesome!! Food. Service. Atmosphere. Superb. I was torn between the crab cake Benedict and chicken biscuit with gravy and hot honey sauce. I went with the chicken. It was excellent! Wife had the breakfast burger. I tried it. Very flavorful. I think I need to go back tomorrow for the Benedict!! Check it out.“
“Amazing isn’t even the word to begin with!! I had my son’s 16th birthday party on March 24 and from beginning to end, the level of professionalism and accuracy was astounding. Summer one of the event coordinators has been such a huge help from start to finish! I can’t brag enough on how amazing everything was! Will definitely be coming back to celebrate my birthday next! The food was amazing I didn’t even get a chance to snag a plate hahaa!“
“Talk about a great time with amazing eats and even better hospitality. The gang at Bedford Falls are just stellar! Bar tender Roscoe is a top notch lad and the owner Brendan made us feel right at home. Can’t say enough about the food…just perfection. Try the Fried Chicken Sandwich! Hands down a place to visit if you are in town.“
“I've been coming here for over a decade and usually go for the burger and wings (see original review below). Lately, I've been hooked on the Greek salad with blackened chicken. I asked one of the employees where they get the Greek dressing (Sysco or US Foods is what I was thinking). Come to find out, they make the dressing from scratch every week. Never thought I would write that my favorite Greek salad is in a pub...but there it is. I wonder if they could create Greek wings?Original review: Hands down best pub in Charleston. The burger is magical and the wings sublime. The hand cut fries (ask for them spicy) are the best in town.“
“Wide variety of delicious burgers. I've had the Cowboy and Park Circle Burgers and would recommend both. For the indecisive, you can also get 2 burger styles as sliders rather than 1 burger. Great beer selection. Adult milkshakes. One of the best spots in Park Circle!“
“Izzy was the best!! The entire time, she checked on us many times, came by after we settled up to see if we changed our minds and gave us multiple options for the most popular drinks and her favorites. Izzy is the kind of server you want every time you go ANYWHERE!!!The owner also came by numerous times to ensure we were comfortable and cared for.My family and I will 100% be back to see her and the staff again next time we come to Charleston! Best bar in the C-Town!!“
“This was my first visit to southern US, and I had always wanted to try a po' boy sandwich. Oh my!! The shrimp po' boy at Coleman Public House was the best sandwich I have ever had in my life. I think I would fly back to Charleston just to have another one. The bun is slightly toasted for just a tiny bit of crunch. The portion of shrimp is generous, and so crispy and golden. And the crowning part is the delicious spicy sauce that is simply amazing. Try it - you will not be disappointed!!“
“My family was in town for vacation and wanted to find somewhere for breakfast other than the usual chains. We stumbled upon Sunrise Bistro and couldn't have had a better experience. I don't remember the last time I've encountered such genuinely kind and friendly people in the service industry. On top of the exceptional service, the food was amazing! My son loved his chicken and waffles! My other son had a chorizo breakfast burrito and inhaled every bite! My husbandoved the self serve coffee bar. We will definitely be back the next time we're in town. Don't miss this place!“
“Excellent local food where locals meet for business and chatting. Very fresh and local produces. I had crab cake for lunch on a bed with chorizo and vegetables on aioli spicy sauce. Also fried local oysters where delicious and Arnold Palmer unsweetened team super “
“Delicious food & drinks! Love the ambiance of The Post House. My girl friend & I walked in and wound up sitting immediately at the bar. It was cozy & fun. I had a Cosmo & tuna tartar, she had a spritzer & shrimp skewers. The bartenders were cool & we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!“
“I can’t say enough…food, service, drinks, atmosphere; it was all top notch without being “too much”. This was a nice relaxing, welcoming environment compared to some of the “upscale” dining we did previously on our trip. True farm to table with all food options. Service was the best I have had in a very long time and was better than most of the cities I have visited.“
“Dillan was an amazing waiter. He recommended the halibut entree and the Elvis dessert. We also ordered shrimp and grits and a side of squash. Everything was beyond our expectations. Honestly the best meal this trip. We’re staying at the Vendue as well. Honestly, the hotel (Allyson- curator) and the restaurant, AND the service ,AND the people , do not disappoint. And, and, and ,and, and….. go there an experience the Vendue!!!!“
“Every once in a while you “find” a great place that has been right in front of you all along. High Thyme is one of those places! We came in for dinner for the first time recently and were blown away and couldn’t believe it has been an option for us for so many years and we just have been missing out. The food was incredible, portions generous, service friendly and knowledgeable and the wine was very reasonably priced with great selection. We arrived right at 5 and the dining area had plenty of tables available but it appeared as though the bar may have opened up a bit earlier because every stool was already filled. By 5:30 the dining room was also packed (this was a Saturday night in between Christmas and New Year’s for reference). All in all we are thrilled to find another great spot on Sullivan’s and can’t wait to go back. Definitely aspiring regulars.“
