“Excellent BBQ as well as Hash&Rice. The ladies were super sweet and helpful. For "connoisseurs", the sauce is a delightfully tangy tomato/vinegar blend. I had the small plate, my husband some sandwiches. Portions were generous and filling. The Alice Dr location is open Wed thru Sunday. Others are open over the weekend. They do take credit/debit cards, at least at this location. Read about Ward's in The State paper of Columbia. 1st Place Winner with over 20000 votes as best BBQ of the Midlands. Runner up won 17000+ votes. The reason I mark it a 4 is NOT why you go to a BBQ place. But the slaw and potato salad were not up to par. To be honest, I've never been a fan of slaw, and grew up on German style potato salad. I thought both were quite bland, and the dressing very soupy. My husband, after we got home and had some from the tubs we bought, agreed. (Slaw fan). I'd definitely go back for BBQ and hash&rice. Yum!“
“Just so you're not surprised, this is the kind of place where you pick up your meat and take it home to keep warm/heat up and pair it with your own fixins' for a meal. If you get the ribs they are going to come rinds on, meat falling off the bone, lots of sauce. The sauce is the right amount of spicy for those who like spicy.“
“Support local! Went here for ribs as I was craving ribs, and the reviews drew me to the place. I ordered the rib plate, but since I only wanted ribs, the first option, Rib Sandwich, made sense as suggested by the owner. I paid $18 because I ordered 2 orders of the rib sandwich. One to satisfy my craving and one for later midnight snack ?. The meat was cooked right (first time trying southern bbq, so maybe my opinion doesn't hold merit yet...haha).•Will I go again? Yes, I would. •Did I eat in? No, carry out. This place is more like a one-man show, so I wouldn't eat in unless the gentleman who served us is okay with it. I do not know if there will be a table service if you decide to eat in.•Payment options? CASH ONLY. He does have drinks, Pepsi products.Rate of 4/5.“
“I go to Wards BBQ on Pinewood road when I come to Sumter. All the BBQ in Sumter is vinegar. I don't like it. But at Wards BBQ I love the BBQ. The older man said they have the best hash over anyone else. I agree. Love the big dinners. It's a lot. Last Saturday night they didn't have any Banana pudding. I said it's Saturday night. Should have it. I like the ladies who work there Wards BBQ is my Go To Restaurant.“
“After driving by a few times, I decided to stop in and see what they have to offer! I'm certainly glad that I did. The Turkey leg reminded me of the legs you would get at a carnival. They are juicy, large and FULL of flavor!! Im going back to purchase one too just sit on my counter.... So I can pick off it all day!!!! LOL“
“First time here and the employees were great and patient with me. My cousins used to go there all the time and they told me about the place. We were in the area so, we stopped in. The sauce they have to put on the BBQ really enhanced it. I really enjoyed the whole meal. Had the small BBQ plate which includes, hash, rice, BBQ and corn dodgers(hush puppies). Looking forward to going back.“
“Arrived with my daughter and we had to wait but that was ok because it was a Sunday and right after church. I got the rib eye (medium) with loaded sweet potato. We both shared the fried onion and it was so good. Everything was fresh and hot. I had no complaints and will return.“
“Portion sizes are large. The hash has a tomato based sauce not a mustard one. It is a bit sweet, mellow, with a little tang. Not too acidic or overpowering. Pulled pork is nice and tender. Hush puppies have a pleasant crunchy outer crust and a soft fluffy center. Chicken is well cooked not dry. The tomato based barbecue sauce on the chicken is sweet and savory. They bring your plate out to you, refill your glasses, and treat you politely.“
