We happened upon this restaurant by chance. We were driving through rapid city. We are so grateful we were able to dine there. One of the best meals of our whole trip. Small intimate restaurant. A wonderful wait staff. Amazing delicious food. A true hidden gem!!

I forgot one thing on my prior review. Junipers has the silliest excuse of a beet salad I have ever been served. It had an area about 2X2 inches of tiny beet cubes and some sauce and other stuff and three tiny pieces of romaine lettuce stalk.

Amazing restaurant. Very cozy and comfortable. The staff went above and beyond all night. They were fast, courteous and accurate. I had the filet mignon with mashed potato’s and carrots. It was prepared perfectly. I’m thankful I was able to eat here while in town!

We were not familiar with the restaurants in the area but based on google decided to try it. The Food was outstanding! Great flavors! Great coffee/ espresso to end the night with. But, the most impressive part was the staff. While we don’t remember or waiters name.. we think it was Drake (We at on July 28th), he was the only server and was VERY attentive even though the place was packed. He did an outstanding job! It was a wonderful evening with wonderful food. Great way to end our week long camping vacation!

In town for only one day and I wish we were here longer so I could eat at Juniper again! We were so fortunate that the restaurant could accommodate us as it was busy! A Wednesday night and every table was full. Every single dish was fresh and so delicious. We had each of the salads and charcuterie boards to start. Gorgeously presented and even more tasty. The gluten free bread service was served warm with house made truffle butter. The entrees were all just stunning. The ragu of mushrooms over polenta was bright and delicious. The variety locally foraged mushrooms was impressive. I had the pork and peaches over quinoa. It was perfection. The pork tender, sweet juicy peaches, nutty arugula with a balsamic vinaigrette. Eat here. The staff was friendly and so accommodating for gluten-free needs. The food the best I've had in a long time.


Of all the places we ate in Rapid, this was the best. The service was great, the atmosphere was fun and relaxed, the wine and food were great. The mushroom ragu was out of this world. I am dreaming about this meal. The beet gazpacho and cesear salad were both solid. Sirloin tips were great. 4 stars is because the charcuterie was quite bad. It's one of the most expensive items on the menu and wasn't worth it. But other than that, everything was great and this was a highlight of our trip. Definitely recommend.


Managed to get a reservation here about midway through our week exploring the black hills area. After several disappointing meals at other fairly well reviewed restaurants, we weren't sure what to expect from Juniper. I have to say, this restaurant lives up to its wonderful reviews. Service was excellent. Alexis was incredibly friendly and gave us some great tips about things we might enjoy during the rest of our stay. Food was perfect, start to finish. We all enjoyed the French onion soup, and shared the autumn apple salad. For our entrees, we had the chicken and waffles, Carolina pork, and the ragu. All were delicious. Got the sampler for dessert, and we couldn't decide which of the 3 was our favorite. My son has a nut allergy, and they were very careful about making sure everything we ordered was safe. We were lucky enough to get another reservation for our last night in town, and the second visit was just as great as the first. Would definitely return if we are ever in the area again.

When locals describe good restaurants, take it with a grain of salt. They dot get out of South Dakota much. This restaurant is actually being understated if someone tells you it’s good. This place competes with some of the best restaurants from around the country and you will not be disappointed! It has a small seasonal menu that allows for culinary perfection from the chef. I was slightly surprised there wasn’t any cocktails on the drinks menu, so that’s the only other thing to note.

While traveling across South Dakota I was googling restaurants in the Rapid City area. Juniper was very highly rated and the reviews were great! So we made a reservation and had an absolutely wonderful, delicious meal! The apple salad was to die for! From the crispy apples, the bacon and the crunch of the pecans, it was a great combination. I would order it every time if I was ever able to go back there. We live in Colorado. My husband ordered the chicken and waffles and it was a scrumptious treat! I had the sirloin tips and succotash. The tips were tasty but the best part of the meal was the succotash. The vegetables, all fresh of course were seasoned perfectly and just the right amount of butter. One of the owners, Matt, waited on us, he was delightful! Very kind and gracious and thrilled to hear our feedback. I never write restaurant reviews. But I had to write one on Juniper because it was such a great experience. Go Dine there!


Me and my wife were visiting Rapid City. We found this restaurant online and decided to go because the food looked good. As we went inside, a server greeted us with a "look" instead of hello. The was restaurant was less than half full. The hostess asked us if we had reservations. We did not. She continued to bring us all the way into the back of the restaurant in a secluded hallway next to a supply room. She dropped the menus on the table and left. The menu had very minimal choices. Feeling we got put in the back of bus. We left. Then we ate at Millstone Family Restaurant, which was inviting and pleasant. Eat there instead.
