I'm so confused. There is no way this place has been around since 1998. The furniture selection is either a narrow booth or tiny uncomfortable chairs that hug at the hips. The server treated us as if we have never had sushi before, which is far from the truth. Our server then decided to sit on the other side of the restaurant and have what looked like a business meeting or an interview at a table leaving us to hope that another server would bring us our food. Now the atrocities that were committed to the food made us want to pay immediately and leave but we stuck it out. The Gyoza was mush with what had to be cheap Heinz mustard on top. The sushi rolls were good. The chicken teriyaki bento box with yakisoba noodles was not good... what I received was not that. FRENCH FRIES!!! were presented instead of the Kani roll and rice instead of noodles. The chicken was very overcooked and tough. But because our server was too busy in his "meeting" we never had much of chance to even question the thought process that went into the dish. We toughed it out and left as soon as we could. But only after our server looked over our shoulder as we filled out the tip section of the payment. We felt pressured to give a tip higher than ever was deserved. I would not recommend this place.

We got there a little late. Just before 9 pm, I think. They normally close at 10pm on Wednesday. We were still able to eat, without being rushed. I also noticed a birthday party going on in the Hibachi area. All in all, it was a great experience and I will be going back. Oh, they charge an extra 4% for card transactions so we opted to pay with cash

Kokai is my favorite place to eat sushi in Katy, I love the peaceful atmosphere you feel when you walk in, the service is always very friendly and the food is fantastic. Today our waiter Edwin gave us an amazing recommendation, I tried the "Primavera" for the first time and it had a lovely presentation and excellent taste, definitely one of my favorites now. 10/10!

The sushi I tried was very good, but honestly I wouldn't go again, for the price it's not worth it, I explain, first, we had to pay $25 to enter an event, the group was good but nothing to go crazy about, the space is very small and does not lend itself to that type of presentation, by the way you already pay for an entrance, they inflate the price of the drinks by double without any logical justification or prior notice, $10 for a green tea that was not good, then at the end You have to pay 20% of the consumption for “service fee”, first time I see that on a bill, is the way to charge a tip mandatory? Then 4% more to pay by card. In the end we ended up spending $86 between 2 people just for 2 teas and 2 rolls (not counting the expense for the event) with that money we have already eaten much better in better sushi restaurants.
