We’ve been there a couple of times and the service is always good. The food is amazing! Definitely feels like you’re in a different city than north Dallas. I really feel this place is underrated. Lucky to have found it!

This was my first time at the restaurant, and everything was superb. Living near the restaurant, I've always walked passed this spot. I'm so glad I decided to step in. Sushi and Sashimi was very firm and fresh. Jay chef recommended Miyazaki beef and Uni sushi, which was so tender and creamy. Paired well with our wine. Also got samples of their roll. Yummy~ no dessert yet but server said they would be adding dessert soon as well. I'm definitely going back for their Omakase next time. They said Omakase is what they specialize in. Can't wait for next time.

This is my go to spot during Lunch. Price is very cheap and quality is top notch. Lunch is served quick, which is a PLUS. Love the atmosphere as well, very upscale, elegant. Good job

First impression, when walking in is very clean, modern ambiance. no sushi showcase at the sushi bar made our experience at the restaurant even more up close and personal with the chef, explaining the sushi with detailed dedication and effort they put into making each piece. This is the place to go to on a date night or special occasion. 5 stars. thank you and will be back for Omakase.

Not fresh in the least. Fish was old, squishy and fishy-tasting. I spit one of the pieces back into my napkin for fear of getting sick. Some of the worst sushi I’ve had in a very long time. Even for good sushi it would have been hideously overpriced. Nice environment, live jazz playing. People were friendly but poor service; hot sake came out lukewarm. It took the server ten minutes to bring us a hot one after we sent it back. Pass, go somewhere else.

Sushi is not fresh - my husband and I got the sashimi and sushi dinners - almost inedible. The hot sake came cold and sent back to reheat. The miso soup was the only saving grace. Very expensive too! Try sushi Lover instead in PLANO.

This place was an absolute treat. We had the regular Omakase experience, and I can say I've never had sushi of this caliber anywhere else. It's a little pricey but is definitely worth the money.

Authentic and delectable SUSHI and SASHIMI indulgence 'OMAKASE' style, at the recently opened 'SHUMI OMAKASE' at the SHOPS at LEGACY in PLANO, TX! Check it out! According to the Michelin Dining Guide, few formal dining experiences are as revered or as intimidating as 'OMAKASE' - a form of Japanese dining in which guests leave themselves in the hands of a chef and receive a meal which is seasonal, elegant, artistic and uses the finest ingredients available. In many ways, 'OMAKASE' is a spiritual companion and counterpoint to 'KAISEKI', the elaborate multi-course Japanese meal built around seasonality, quality ingredients and simple preparations. There is one key difference though. While kaiseki is a highly ritualized meal with a specific ebb and flow, OMAKASE changes with each occasion, with the chef making decisions about what to cook mid-course. The literal meaning of 'OMAKASE' lies in the word itself-- directly translated, it means "I leave it up to you." 'SHUMI OMAKASE' was founded in Ridgewood, NJ, by Master Chef AIKASA (from Japan) and his protégé DAVID SEO (a native of South Korea), who moved from NJ to found SHUMI OMAKASE at the Shops at Legacy in Plano. What makes 'SHUMI OMAKASE' refreshingly different from most other JAPANESE Sushi-Sashimi establishments in our beloved metropolis, is an open bar where Chef/Owner DAVID SEO and his fellow Chefs serve you freshly made Sushi and Sashimi crafted right in from of your eyes from the day's catch, one piece at a time (see photos below), with the nuances that will make this an experience to savor in a totally relaxed and friendly ambiance. This was my second visit to 'SHUMI OMAKASE' and I must admit this was one of my finest experiences not only imbibing Sushi and Sashimi, but also assimilating some of the esoteric attributes of the fine culinary art of making these delectable morsels and experiencing the nuances of the Piscean flavors and textures as they undulated on my palate - an experience I would love to re-live again and again! So what are you waiting for? If you are a connoisseur of JAPANESE cuisine and savor SUSHI and SASHIMI, you owe it to yourself to check out the OMAKASE offered with passion and verve by Chef/Owner DAVID SEO at SHUMI OMAKASE, at the SHOPS at LEGACY in Plano! Check it out: SHUMI OMAKASE 7161 Bishop Road, Suite G2, Plano, TX 75024. Tel # (469) 298-3737.

Awesome modern presentation and atmosphere. The food is some of the best sushi you'll have in this area, and for a much lower price than you'd expect at this calibur of restaurant. Extremely fast turn around, staff was kind and attentive. We came here for dinner when it was cold outside, but I'd love to try this place out on a mild day for lunch and eat outside. Great spot.

I don’t often write reviews but this places horrible experience force me to do so. First, don’t offer counter seating reservation on Open table app and not honor it. Other restaurants can handle people flow even during busy season; second, if you are going to offer me a table don’t take over 10 minutes before take my order. Third, after you apologize for not taking order you might also want to ask if we want something to drink. Fourth, don’t take over 20 minutes from the time you took my order and still not bring me any food or drink. Finally, don’t allow me to do a reservation at 8 PM be 9 PM and still have no food in my plate when you are only offering one single menu for the entire evening. If I could give zero starts I would have given them. Save yourself the hassle. Dallas has other great sushi restaurants in Plano and downtown Dallas. This place should be taken down from their current rating.

Similar to Phan's review, our Valentine's Day dinner was a disappointment. First, it feels like Shumi has an identity crisis. Jazz band playing and nice linens, but hostess shouting out names like you're at a market. Come on, even Olive Garden uses buzzers! They had loads of empty tables but weren't seating people so everyone was hovering right by the door for 20-30 minutes even if they had reservations. Many ended up walking out. Also if it's supposed to be high end, why did I get food on plastic dishes and my sake flights in plastic shot glasses? Is this take out and nobody told us because it was $100 pp. It took 2 hours to eat and they brought stuff out of order and forgot who they already served. It's omakase so they should have been quicker... Everyone is having the same damn thing! Like the salad took 45 minutes! They weren't short of staff in the floor so make one of them go dish out salads. Or offer edamame to patrons while they waited or comp a free drink, anything to make the wait less painful...nope. The courses were boring and execution could have been better. The soup with tuna rolls in it was downright strange. The steamed egg was the best and that's not saying much. The dessert tasted like they bought it from Costco and just carved of pieces and threw ice cream on. I get that restaurants can have a rough time with days like Valentine's, but these mistakes are unexcusable.

Oh where to start.... If I had the option to give zero stars I certainly would. We had never been here and based off the reviews we went ahead and booked a reservation for valentine's dinner. At about 3pm the day of the restaurant called to inform us that it was a preplanned meal for $100 per person. WTF?! Mind you no where on their website was this mentioned such service but given that it was the DAY OF we were sort of stuck. There was no turning back at this point. We show up prior to our reservation and we were told that it would be a 10 to 15 minute wait, no big deal. An hour and 15 minutes later we finally get seated and waited 20 minutes to get served water. At this point the night is a loss and we proceeded to walk out along with others because of their lack of effort to even attempt a dinner service. To be honest I have never seen this level of unprofessionalism not to mention disorganization from any restaurant. I cant speak towards the caliber of the food and can only rate the experience but based off other patrons who posted scathing reviews from the same night of how their food was about as good as our debacle we may have dodged a bullet. Save your money and go somewhere else.

We specifically booked standard table service, but they only had limited menu only. They claim they called me to inform me, but they did not. Service was horrible and SLOW. We were there over 2 hours. We will not recommend and won't return.

Looks like un-organized, made reservation for 7 PM and arrived 10 mins early but had to wait for table. This was 2nd time visiting but I do understand it is busy time but quality of food & services weren't good as my 1st time visit.

AnnRenee

While the food was good, the service was not. At all. It was terribly slow, disorganized and disruptive. And worst of all, none of the staff seemed to care. I'd guess the wait and hostess staff is very inexperienced.
