My wife and I, went to brunch this morning. We go to foode and merchentile all of the time and service, atmosphere are great. I know that we need to be patient as customers as restaurants have staffing issues.

We loved the setting in a old bank, complete w/safe and old safety deposit boxes. Décor and atmosphere were great. Our server was pleasant and patient. I just didn't really didn't love the menu choices and then what we got was just okay - not great. I had a beef dish and my favorite part was the fried yucca and sauce - the beef was over spiced and not special. My husband and son had the shrimp and grits - the shrimp were tender - but again - over spiced. So - it was fine but not a great fit for us...

If you're in downtown Fredricksburg I can't recommend this stop enough. We were able to easily park in a parallel spot and given the option of indoor or outdoor seating. The space is an old bank (Abraham Lincoln gave a speech on the steps!) making for a really cool vibe with the vault remaining intact. Also of note, their food is organically sourced and two of the chefs were on Top Chef!!! We went in for lunch and our meal was exactly what we needed. We got the salmon with a side salad and choice of side (went with the truffle fries obvi) and the Bibb salad add salmon. The salmon was cooked beautifully and the salad was so flavorful. We absolutely loved it. We finished with the chocolate chip cookies and milk which were totally worth the splurge. In addition to great food, service was awesome. The chef checked in with us and spent time talking to us about the space and the menu. Really cool experience, if we're ever back in Fredricksburg Foode will absolutely be on our list.

We sat outside, but the inside still retains a lot of the old bank elements, like the vault and the teller booths, so it's a fun atmosphere. The menu is pretty limited, but the offerings are creative and everything is fresh and delicious. The green eggs and VA ham is great with a side of fantastic breakfast potatoes, plus excellent thick toast. Tea biscuits with strawberry jam and creamy butter - amazing! The biscuits were so light and fluffy and had this wonderful crispy top - so good. The frittata was just bursting with veggies and was really delicious. The strawberry shortcake waffle was light and fluffy with a very light and nice syrup and good strawberries. We also got a blueberry cobbler loaf and that was fantastic, heaped with cream - so good! My only negative was that I ordered a chai and it was just a chai tea bag, not a real, coffee-shop chai and, we had to wait for them to bring the sugar and milk and ask twice. Other than that, it was really, really good food with very nice waitstaff and good service.


Made a reservation at Foode for May 1 at 6:00 pm on April 18 via telephone. Called the restaurant on April 30 to request that we have indoor dining. After much discussion with the somewhat confused person she said we would be in the green room/grey room for dinner. I also received a confirmation via text on Friday and another on Saturday which I confirmed. We arrived on May 2nd and noticed there was a sign that said the indoor part of the restaurnant was closed due to private party, Spoke with a young man working there and they had no record of a reservation. He called the manager over and she said the same but that we could sit outside if we wanted to. Big mistake, should have walked away. Sat at a very uncomfortable table (some type of a heated table with no heat) and no place for your legs. Ordered a glass of champagne, and half way through we ordered dinner. During that time it become colder as we had not brought sweaters expecting to sit inside, so we decided to forget about dinner and left. Server was all apologies but it was not her fault. By the way, the private party was a wedding that I'm sure was booked for quite sometime. We went here in May 2016 and I gave it a great review that is still posted, Too bad, will never go back.


My husband and I took an Amtrak train from Norfolk to Fredericksburg for a day trip. I did an Internet search before our trip, made lunch reservations at Foode (the "e" is pronounced as a long e, so Food-ee), and we walked there from the train station. It is less than a mile away. The building is on the corner of Princess Anne and George streets, right in Old Town, so you can spend the afternoon walking off lunch. Inside Foode, diners were busy eating and chatting; the atmosphere was intimate, yet friendly with plenty of light and seating. Our table was toward the back of the restaurant; the hostess indicated reserved seats are there, while walk-ins are seated closer to the entrance. Our server was friendly and checked on us several times during our visit. I had a two-egg plate with thick toast, ham and cubed potatoes, $11. My husband ordered a seared shrimp platter with truffle Asiago fries, $18. Both plates were presented with hearty portions and we enjoyed the meals. The restaurant is clean - bathrooms, too - and mask requirements are enforced, except while eating or drinking. We will definitely return - Foode was a highlight of our trip.

I've been here twice, once with my husband and another time with my friends. Both times were great! The service was awesome and the food was excellent. I recommend the chicken and waffles. I wish I could remember our waitresses' name because she was amazing! She took the time to make a connection with us and also made great recommendations.

I've been to Foode a few times. Absolutely love their Shrimp and Grits the second best I've had. The drinks are slightly overpriced but technically every place they are (60%+ markup). The atmosphere has a sorta upscale feel but it's not upscale. Not a loud place and which is good and my 3 visits the crowd was older 50's+ tbh my visits were on a random day off on a weekday when most people work. It has been a while since I have been there so need to revisit for more detailed review

Love this place! They were able to accommodate our large party of bride and bridesmaids for brunch and made it such a nice experience. Their food is always so good too!


This place was recommended by a foodies group in Facebook. It went over my expectations. The ambient Cousy, the amazing server (Ben) and que quality and delicacy of the food was something not easy to find. We had the fries with alioli, herbs and Asiago; the chicken wings with ginger lemon and the chicken tacos. I could take hours to describe all dishes... all of them unique and delicious. The Rose angel cake with rouibarb and cherrys was wonderful and the ginger lime cream brûlée perfect!

This is a very unique restaurant. It looks like it was a former bank, and it still has a few of the original bank features. We sat in the old bank vault which was pretty cool and nerve wracking at the same time. Foode offers a lot of vegan options as well as goodies for the meat eaters (which I am). I opted for the chef's menu consisting of two options for each option being vegan or vegetarian. I chose the Caesar salad which was super tasty or maybe I've just missed out on veggies for a few days...either emery I felt like my body thoroughly enjoyed it. I also had the sirloin which was pretty good. The one thing I didn't care for much was the coconut dessert. It came with pineapples and blueberries but something was missing or maybe too many things were in it. Not my favorite. The margarita was good. The Manhattan and the old fashioned both had cherries in them which put them a little on the slightly sweeter side...good though. Service was pretty good.

Finally gave Foode a try and I wasn't disappointed! Very nice decor and interior, much prettier than I expected! I would've certainly dressed nicer had I known and really transformed it into a date night. The staff were friendly as well. They offered indoor and outdoor seating, although outdoor seating was not heated. The dinner menu was confusing as it says 3 course meal, but there are plenty of one course meals on the menu as well. The avocado dressing on the salad was fantastic! Light and very flavorful. The burger was delicious with true thick cut bacon on it! The cocktail menu looked amazing, will certainly have to go back to try one...or many :)
