“I adore this place so so much. It's all vegan and it's delicious. I couldn't recommend more. I go every time I'm in Richmond. The mac and cheese and the breakfast burritos are outstanding. The lavender oat latte is incredible. Updated from previous review on 2023-02-09“
“Maybe kind of a generic college town coffee house, but when the formula works don't change it. I loved the mid 2000s coffee house feel, the solid but delicious beverage options, and the communal tables. What I didn't like was the service, which was slow despite there being not a lot of business. Not gonna say don't go, I'm assuming the barrista was just distracted that day.“
“I love this cute cafe!! I've now been there twice for coffee and while I have had to wait a bit, I've been really happy with my experiences there. I have gotten the iced peppermint mocha both times and it was perfect. The breakfast burrito was so flavorful and filling that it was more than worth the $7 price tag. I've also had a bagel and blue berry muffin and they were lovely. Excited to live pretty close to there and stop in to do work one afternoon at a table or catch up with a friend there.“
“When anywhere near Richmond during Sub Rosa's hours you better pull up. But do expect a line when they open until close. This quaint bakery in Church Hill does things the old fashion way with a wood fired oven that makes all the difference in taste. My visit around 8 AM on a Sunday found a challenge to park and a line a block long. I knew I had arrived at the right place. They have been on a try list for a few years. With a flight in a few hours I was a bit nervous, but it all worked out as they are just 10-12 minutes from the airport. The building is an adorable two story with awnings. The neighborhood is one of the oldest in the city adding some charm. However not far is a lot of blight. I felt safe as I finally found my way to their front door after approximately 35 minutes. However you will make friends trust me.The counter of goodies is immediately as you walk in. The place is small but offers a few tables to enjoy your pastry and coffee, they also offer a few tables outside. The brick oven is the hero as employees work hard to pull off trays of bakery items to replenish the depleting cases. They have a policy of only 8 per customer. Larger orders call 48 hours in advance.I decided on a few items like a basic croissant, a chocolate croissant, a crumb cake and something with potatoes. I was eating in, but also taking a box out. So I informed them what was for here and also a cappuccino. It's pricey as the bill with 20% tip was just under $40. The service was friendly at the counter.I did chat with a staff who said their baking process begins by loading the oven with wood and firing around 2 PM for the next day. She jokingly said you would not want to be here it gets real smokey. The restroom in the back was clean. The pastries came out quickly on real plates with real metal utensils. Thank you! The cappuccino took much longer and was mistakenly put in a paper cup which was disappointing. Every single item was tried and magnificently tasty and fresh.I left very satisfied that I supported a local business as well as found such a gem of a bakery to recommend. The visit had one small hiccup that I will ignore for the purposes of their overall composite score of a full 5 stars.Sub Rosa has been in business for 13 years and has always had the same method of making all their bakery items. I will hopefully return this year.Parking: It’s all off street parking.“
“We were so excited to hear about this place when it opened up not too long ago, and it has not been disappointment. I can always count on them being friendly when I walk up to the counter, they drinks are reliably good, and there's tons of seating. Owner Olaf manages to greet every person who comes in and he keeps the place spic and span. I can tell he genuinely cares about his customers by how he treats them. It's a perfect spot to study or meet for business and in a great central location. I also like knowing I'm supporting a locally owned small business when I come here! Brick Road Coffee is a home away from home. P.S. The bulk teas they sell in tins are very high quality!“
“What a start to our Richmond trip! Ordered the Rosemary Sea Salt bagel egg & cheese, salsa verde egg & cheese kolache (their specialty), and a brown sugar Rosemary Sea salt iced latte (lightly sweetened). Everything was fantastic and freshly made! Kolach is a stuffed Czech/Slovak pastry which was unique and a great blend of sweet/savory. Zack, the owner was incredibly hospitable!“
“Always a fantastic experience every time I’ve been here. The environment is incredibly welcoming as is the FOH staff. I’ve had several coffee drinks, which were stellar and I’ve dined in twice each time exceeding expectations in the food preparation and presentation.“
“The ice cream is delicious and I highly recommend it! There were a variety of flavors including gluten-free and vegan options. Additionally they changed scoop to avoid cross contaminations for those with celiac disease. The outdoor benches were also perfect seating for the sunny day!“
“I am always happy to support local business, especially women-owned ones, and this one is no exception! As you enter, you are greeted with the most cheerful and positive greeting and it just shows how much everyone enjoys working there. There are many drink and food options all of which are very affordable. I was especially happy about the many vegetarian and vegan options. This place is a whole vibe and I can’t wait to come back and try other items on the menu.Dietary restrictions: Vegan options“
“Love this place! Been coming here for about 15 years. High quality teas, friendly staff, and I like that they write out detailed steeping instructions for each tea. I don't live in the area anymore but they will ship to me for a very cheap, haven't been able to find another place like it anywhere.“
“Love the atmosphere of this coffee roaster. The old brick building has been beautifully redone. The seating areas and cozy and welcoming for hanging out or sitting quietly for work or reading.I had a lavender oat milk latte. The lavender was not a syrup, just the flavor of lavender, which was so delicious! Way too many places go so sweet and it takes over the flavor, but this was so perfect!“
“My niece and I first stopped by Bell Greek for lunch while in town visiting my mom in the hospital. We were treated very well. The following week we were in need of a last minute catering for my mom’s service and we immediately thought of Bell Greek. They were able to fulfill our order with a quick turnaround. They delivered our food on time to the church and set up everything for us. Everyone raved about the food. It was absolutely delicious. Next time we’re in VA, we’ll definitely be making a stop in again.“
“Absolutely love the bagels here, best bagels in Richmond by far. We get these bagels at least once a week and we are never disappointed for taste. They are super generous with cream cheese too which is nice. Unfortunately we have had hairs in our bagels from time to time which comes with any dining out experience but today our bagels had THREE hairs in one of them.I think the staff needs to start being more serious about tying up hair or simply wearing hair nets.“
“Went twice this week. First visit was excellent with great service. They rolled out the guacamole cart and made it right in front of us. Food was very good and reasonably priced. The second visit had slow service, no guacamole cart. The food was still good. The Mojito was very good.“
“What a cutie gem!! I’m surprised I haven’t heard of this place sooner. My friend and I got the hot honey lavender latte (iced and hot) and her partner got the Ring of Fire(? which is a latte with four whopping shots of espresso, tajin rim, and spicy chocolate I believe). We had a brief but pleasant talk with the barista who was the mastermind of some of these drink creations as well. If you’re strolling around in Carytown, you gotta try that Ring of Fire!!“
“I consider myself a croissant snob. I love to try new bakeries all the time so I can try their croissants. The croissants from this place were some of the best I’ve ever had. There was quite a line to wait in but I’d say it was worth it. They also have coffee which I think is another big draw to this place.“
“My little sister took me here while I was visiting her for a day. I tried the Gold Rush, and it was undoubtedly one of the best ice creams I've ever had. We bought two pints for the road. I had a chance to talk to Westray as well; he was very kind and patient answering all our questions. I would highly recommend if anyone is in Richmond.“
“I love the vibe of this place. It's a chill atmosphere with wine, pizza, and picnic tables. My fiancé and I ordered a cheese pizza, and a red sparkling wine based on their helpful suggestion. I really enjoyed the wine. My thoughts on the pizza are as follows. The crust was outstanding. The owner of this place apparently worked at the famous Tartine Bakery and that is reflected in the crust. It tastes more like a crusty mild sourdough loaf than a traditional pizza. The wheat flavors from the high extraction or whole wheat they are using in the dough are present but not overpowering. In the realm of pizza this is definitely a slower bake cooked in their Baker's pride gas oven. My guess is about 10 minutes. What you get a very crispy verging on cracker like consistency in the crust. I prefer a little more delicacy and lightness from a faster high temp bake, but it was still delicious. I was slightly less enthralled with sauce and the cheese combination. The cheese is classic Grande low-moisture mozzarella, no complaints there. Based on the cans I saw the sauce is a DOP San Marzano tomato. It was on the acidic side, and that combined with the tangy Grande cheese did not complement each other very well. I would prefer a naturally sweeter tomato sauce. I also would have liked a little more sauce. All that said, it is still great pizza, and I would be a regular here if I didn't make my own pizza.“
“A delightful coffee shop in the West End. I came once many years ago and it's only gotten better. I'm not a coffee drinker so I actually got a hot chocolate, but they have lots of espresso flavors and it's clear they take coffee very seriously. I did get an apple turnover, which was delicious! Perfectly flaky and full of apple filling. There's lots of indoor and outdoor seating for the space, and it's clear that they have some very loyal regulars. Overall it's a very cozy space, and I'm excited to come back and try some more things from the menu next time!Parking: There's a good amount of parking here that's shared with the other businesses in this shopping center.“
“Review based on DoorDash delivery Corned Beef Hash Sammie: Corned Beef, Cheddar Cheese, Egg, Hash Browns, Lou's Special Sauce, on a soft roll 5 for $12.65 Original Breakfast Sandwich: Bacon, Ham with Egg, American Cheese, Hash Browns, Lou's Special Sauce, on Dutch crunch bread“
“This place was recommended by our AirB&B host and it was so good we will be going back before we leave! Between the coffee, food, juice and the atmosphere this place has 12/10 vibes, I tried the Black is Beautiful juice, croissant sandwich, and the breakfast burrito!“
“I am so so picky about coffee, and this is one of my all time favorites…definitely the best coffee in Richmond by FAR imo. Coffee is just deep and rich and so good! Atmosphere is clean and bright and staff is friendly and talented. We keep coming back !“
“I used to come here almost every day while I was at VCU and lived down the street. It was one of my favorite places in the neighborhood. I just went back for the first time in 15 years (after moving away from RVA). It's so nice to see that this lovely place is still here.I don't normally notice much difference in drip coffee (it's either good or bad... strong or weak basically) but the one they serve there is noticeably excellent and some of the best I've ever had.The prices are super reasonable. Stefa and Katherine served me and my friend. They were friendly, helpful and patient.Really nice to meet the owner, Quillin. I hope she's proud of her much deserved (and hopefully continued) success and contribution to local culture.Great vibe, kind people, cool art, good music, interesting stuff to read... places like this make Richmond the city it is.:)“
“Little hefty on the price until you try and bite into it. TON of meat on the Soprano, they know how to make a real sandwich. The sesame sub roll was perfect and the hot relish was the right amount of heat. Id eat lunch here everyday if I could. I'd love to see some kind of drink, chip, half sandwich type lunch deal. Not much seating but you don't feel the need for it. Its a modern neighborhood deli type feel. Sandwiches, soups, friendly staff, great spot near VCU. They said 15 minutes, by the time i showed up 10 minutes later it was ready to go. This has crazy potential and the owners seem to have the passion for their business and strive to improve. Can't wait to try the menu“
“I have been coming to this boba tea spot for over 17 years since before boba even became popular! The owner is the person thats actually making the drinks. Many flavors to choose from and its consistently good. I've tried all the boba spots in Richmond and this is by far the best one!Dietary restrictions: Lots of dairy-free milk options!“
“I LOVE this place, however, not just because of the coffee (try the lavender iced chai! My Favorite! It’s almost dangerous…!) The service is amazing and it’s always clean. I can’t the same for some places in Richmond…The employees are always so attentive and friendly! The barista that helps me most often is this dark haired girl with glasses. She’s so sweet and hardworking. And always makes my drink the best. I almost only go there just see her, she’s that great! Thanks, Krim!“
“I always try to find different coffee shops besides your usual chain ones. I saw this one and came based on the ratings. I almost didn't purchase anything because the prices are on the higher side but I'm glad I did. I got their honey butter chicken biscuit and the seasonal Peppermint Bark Cookie iced latte ( if I have the wording incorrect, my apologies). The biscuits are made in house and I can definitely tell. Hands down, the best chicken biscuit I've ever had. The picture makes it look small but I promise that it was big. Almost too big lol but it was absolutely delicious. The biscuit actually had a sweet taste to it that I was not expecting. The coffee was also really good. I'm a sucker for peppermint mocha so I had to try it. It looked absolutely stunning when I got it, and there was a cookie on top as well! Flavors are very very good, not as sweet as I normally take it, but was perfect as it is. It is definitely pricier here, so if You're not looking to spend a whole lot, this isn't for you. But if your looking for quality, definitely check this place out. I'd recommend this place to eat and for coffee for sure.“
“This was the perfect place to take my honey for a Birthday treat. The outrageous milkshakes, along with their mandatory photoshoot, were a lot of fun. Some of those things look like they were pulled straight out of a cartoon. My MHB shake gave me some serious Xzibit vibes. "Yo, we heard you like peanut butter, so we made your milkshake with peanut butter, a peanut butter cup, and a peanut butter swirl. Then we topped it all with a slice of peanut butter pie, so you can peanut butter while you peanut butter."They offer much more than milkshakes and you're guaranteed to satisfy the sweetest tooth ya got between all the different treats they have. I would also highly recommend the Lavender Lemonade. Good stuff!“
“Small cozy local cafe with a large variety of coffee and tea drinks, plus sandwiches and other bites. I've only tried their cinnamon vanilla latte but I had a great experience. The latte was fantastic, and the price was good for how much I got. The barista was friendly. They also sell jams, honey, etc. I do wish there was more space or outlets you can charge with, but obviously that'd cost a lot. I'll definitely be back.“
“Have you ever had a biscuit so delicious, it made you cry tears of joy?If not, then you need to visit Early Bird Biscuit!! This little gem in the heart of town serves up the best biscuits you'll ever taste, and the entire team is super nice and kind!!As soon as you walk in the door, you'll be greeted by the warm, buttery aroma of freshly baked biscuits!! The menu is simple, but it doesn't need to be complicated. Biscuit Place has perfected the art of the biscuit, and they offer a variety of toppings to choose from, including sausage, bacon, eggs, and cheese!!I highly recommend the Early Bird biscuit sandwich with egg and cheese. The biscuit is flaky and golden brown and crispy on the outside, and soft and fluffy on the inside??But Biscuit Place is more than just biscuits!! They also have a variety of other delicious breakfast items, such as omelets. And if you're looking for something sweet, they have a selection of homemade jam!!No matter what you order, you're sure to have a delicious meal at Early Bird Biscuit.!! And The best part is, that the entire team is super nice and kind. They're always happy to help you choose the perfect meal, and they make sure that you have a great dining experience!!So if you're looking for a place to get a delicious biscuit breakfast, or any other breakfast item for that matter, be sure to check out Early Bird Biscuit!!! You won't be disappointed!!“
“It was very nice. Very different vibes from the other cafés in Richmond. I love the idea of using real teacups vs the plastic cups. The atmosphere was super warm and cozy. The drinks were super affordable.I was basic and ordered a latte with a chocolate croissant. The staff was nice though english wasn't their first language. They mainly spoke French and Spanish. I didn't mind. They were very kind and attentive. They only accepted cash. No cards.Only thing, i disliked was the staff touched my food without gloves or tongs.“
“First visit! Stopped in for a midday coffee. Tried the Cherry Pit and Lavender Chai. Such fun, seasonal flavors. The drinks were great. All the booths were full of folks working away on laptops, so nice to know that's an option. Loved all the plants. The huge front windows flooded the store with sunlight and made great mirrors outside to reflect the blue skies and historic buildings nearby. Charming!“
“Very nice market. Clean, good selection and variety. Produce always looks very good. Haven't tried the deli yet, but a deli is usually a deli in a supermarket. Prices are a tad bit higher for my staples, but you're going to pay for convenience and location. Last but not least...Employees are very chill and friendly!“
“This is our favorite sweet treat. (Lombardy location) I haven't found any other donut shop with a variety of vegan options. My child has food allergies to eggs and nuts. The employees even placed the vegan donuts in a separate bag/box to prevent cross-contamination. Kudos for the service and the best tasting treats.Vegetarian options: A row of different types of donuts labeled vegan“
“Wow the food here is so good. This is not your average cafe/coffee shop. It's more like a deli with a variety of tasty hearty sandwiches packed with protein. They even have salads and soups. The cafe was across the block from my apartment building, so convenient. I ordered two rotisserie chicken sandwiches that just filled me up. The deli style chips are so addicting too! I also ordered a peach tea and blackberry tea to go. They sweetened the teas just right. I will definitely be back to try the different sandwiches.“
“Small restaurant attached to our hotel (Linden Row Inn). Perfect for late dinner after check in. Excellent service, good cocktails and the food was good as well. Husband loved his Fish and Chips. Two guests had the Smash-burger and said it was a bit dry. Could have used a special sauce. I had the autumn salad with shrimp. It hit the spot. Appetizers were excellent - fried oysters and green tomatoes were great.“
“The Banoffee Latte is actually insane. It taste like you’re drinking banana bread. I just know this will be a favorite. I hope they decide to keep it or at least bring it back if it goes away for the new season. Idk how it works. Anyway, I love that they offer decaf espresso drinks as I can’t have full caffeine ❤️“
“There is street parking around. It's pretty big inside. The display is good. The people who work there have been wonderful. It has been a relaxing spot for me for years.Parking: There is street parkingKid-friendliness: My children loved the cake pops and MadeleineWheelchair accessibility: It's easy to get in as long as someone is holding the door“
“The veggie and the lox and cream cheese sandwiches will keep us coming back again and again. Although from the constant takeout traffic, there are surely many other delicious offerings. Oh, and the coffee is good too! And the service with a smile and a good word goes a long way too.“
“Maybe the best Starbucks I've ever stepped foot in. Fast, Efficient, everyone was really nice. Super clean. They even have some personal touches like a donations area, a kiddie corner with books and toys, a raffle for some prize or something. Not to mention a clean well stocked restroom, which is essentially when you are trying to change your kids. Thanks guys, GJ“
“This place has been on my bucket list of places to try for what feels like forever. I'm happy to report it was worth the wait. Lamplighter is busy street corner with a tiny little parking lot in front. They have a separate entrance for you to place your order. When you place your order they ask for your name no additional order number is given. This proved to be a little confusing as there were two Jason's at the same time and they received the wrong drink. I ordered an iced lavender latte, breakfast burrito and a sweet potato muffin. Everything was really good. The breakfast burrito tasted homemade and was accompanied by a fresh salsa that was great. I will flag that this cafe is Vegan friendly as they have several vegan/ vegetarian options on the menu. Overall I really enjoyed my coffee and food and look forward to trying this place out in the future!“
“The convenience of the location is extremely important to me as I live in Jackson ward. The only thing I can say is be prepared to wait a bit. Not their fault, they're super popular but you aren't popping in for just a quick coffee unless you drink it black. Also, somehow my price is always high but that's on me for always wanting their mozzarella pesto sandwich with my specialty coffee!“
“It was a rainy Saturday.. Our wait time was about an hr due to it being a party of 11, for some reason it seems like the entire Richmond gets the same idea on rainy days lol. Service was great, atmosphere was good but the food was superb !!!!“
“I’m not from this area but from where I live there is not many Gluten Free options. My boyfriend lives in Richmond and took me here on my birthday and bought me a slice of GF pie and it was beyond what I expected. Today I had the PB & J (GF) cheesecake and it was delicious. WPA Bakery is my favorite place in Richmond. I greatly appreciate places like this that have GF options so I can also enjoy a treat. Thank you again!“
“This place is unassuming, but as far as to-go breakfast is concerned, it is much better than I expected. I had probably the best breakfast burrito I have ever had anywhere (I added tomato and avocado to it), the breakfast sandwich on a bagel was pretty good, as was the thai coffee and the latte. One thing was outstanding (the burrito) and the rest were just slightly above average. The online ordering system was convenient as well.“
“Frost Gelato Ratings: 4/5Food: 3.75/5 - I was craving something sweet after shopping, and decided to try this place out. This might not be as popular as other gelato shops in RVA, but it gets the job done and better than I expected. I love the quality and all the unique flavors they have here. Please read the descriptions below or check out my IG account (noraeatsgood) for more review / content. - Coffee Chips [GET]: My favorite, and I am a huge coffee fan. The coffee gelato wasn't too strong, so it tasted more like a cappuccino flavor instead. I love the coffee chips in it, had a texture similar to chocolate chips, and that slight bitterness really pairs perfectly with the sweet gelato. It's smooth, consistent, and creamy, really easy to eat. - Tiramisu [GET]: Classic and delicious if you love tiramisu. This one was sweeter than the other I got, but it was tasty and yummy. Once again, the texture was smooth and creamy. I just wished there was more ladyfingers and cocoa powder in it. It was definitely missing the tiramisu texture that I wanted it to have, but overall a solid choice. Ambiance: 4/5 - Cute, but spacious and a clean gelato shop located at Short Pump Mall right next to Madewell. Walking in, you can see huge display containers with different gelato flavors and sorbets. There's also a coffee machine behind the counters. Also, there's a good amount of tables, chairs, and even high s chairs available. Great spot to relax after a day of shopping. Price: 4.25/5 - I got a medium size with two flavors, because I couldn't decided which flavors to get for around $7 after tax. The portion was great, and I had to share it with my sister, couldn't finish the whole thing on my own. Pretty fair prices I'd say for the amount given. Service: 4/5 - The lady at the counter was friendly and patience. She was allowing me to have some samples before deciding what I want. The service was good, despite it being a bit busy. Solid and good experience and nice customer service. BLUF: A chain gelato shop that serves authentic gelato with tons of unique flavors made with natural and fresh ingredients. They also offers coffee, crepes and lattes. I recommend trying Frost if you need a place to relax after shopping. I'd say get the coffee chips and if you like nuts, get the pistachios, very strong nutty flavors!“
“Run by amazing staff, have become a regular at this spot. Best chai latte I've found in Richmond so far, As well as they have a wonderful selection of sandwiches. I typically go for the Maymont melt and ask to add sliced beef and have not been disappointed. Always have new latte's and chai based on the season, Only downside is that they are not open on weekends, but other than its amazing!“
“As a bartender, I enjoy a good cocktail menu. Was able to try 3 drinks here and they were pretty good. The frozen "Sleigh Ya" was well balanced(I had 2), the Highway To the Manger Zone, a whiskey cocktail, was light and tasty, and the mezcal "Gifts of an Angel" was fairly light for a mezcal drink (in a good way). Would love to come after holidays to see what else they have“
“Just went to this Starbucks inside of Target. First time at this location. I ordered a coffee that I typically get, and the person who made it somehow made it the best that I have ever had at any Starbucks. Must have added extra love or care. I believe their name was Jen. Thank you for making my morning better!“
“The owners are super nice and accommodating, they explain each dish in detail. The food is made to order and super fresh, and came out fast. The food is absolutely amazing, will definitely be back when I’m in the area. The dining area is extremely clean and spacious!“
