Mama J’s was busy today, this was my first time going to Mama J’s Kitchen so I am unsure if it’s always that busy. I went in, it took about 15 mins to get a table. The restaurant is kinda small so they could only sit so many people. I ordered the chicken sandwich with ice tea and mac n cheese. The chicken sandwich was kinda dry surprisingly it doesn’t come with any sauce just a toasted bun, chicken, lettuce and tomato. I was pouring a lot of hot sauce on it just to help. The place was so busy that our service was slow. I was not only struggling with the dry chicken but I needed more ice tea and the waiter took forever to refill my drink. Other than that the Mac n cheese was ok and the potato chips were unique never had anything like that before. I’m definitely going to give this place a try again and will order the fried chicken and I definitely want to raise my score for this place because I know they work very hard!Chicken sandwich 3/5Mac n cheese 3/5Ice tea 4/5Potato chips 3/5

I really enjoyed my visit here today! This was my third time here! My server Kei was great and showed me great customer service. I had just got my mixed drank and was moving a chair for another guest and knock my cup over and broke it. Kei and her bartender had me another drink within 5 minutes and assisted me with cleaning. My onlyIssue today would be the bathroom. Right now it’s unisex and when I went in, it was piled up with toliet paper, but clean. I’m glad I walked in before all those women so they didn’t have to see that, but I touched it up (the OCD in me). All seriousness, with a place last this and the business you guys get, you definitely wsnt to get that other bathroom back in working order. I have appointments every 3 weeks for a while and will be coming by every single visit! Thanks again for everything today!!!Parking: So you have to know the area to understand the parking. I was able to park right in front of the store but it’s a paid parking lot beside building as well.Kid-friendliness: Music was clean so I would bring my children.Wheelchair accessibility: It’s no ramps are steps to enter this place so yes, wheelchair accessible.

I googled soul food spots in area and my first take was to try Southern Kitchen because seen a bunch of TikToks in since I’m in the RVA area for a tournament I can go for some soul food. But they were closed so now it’s like let’s see who else is open with good reviews. So I paid almost $200 for Takeout and was missing food. I’m trying to support Black Own Business And I place this big order almost 2hrs before closing so when she tells me it will take about a hour in like Ok understand I come to pick it up and something told me to check the bags before leaving because I’m like they made me wait a hour I know everything in there and already spoke with rep to confirm pickup. I have my wife check and I’m missing 3 sides of Mac & cheese & cornbread or bread that comes with entree. I walk back in to let the lady know she tells the guy in kitchen I needs 3 mac & cheese. He responds we out. So now I’m like wow you was just going to short me. Wouldn’t the professional way would be to call or on arrival ask if you could swap out for other sides? Then I’m like does these entrees come with cornbread or bread.? I get a response like we out of them too smh So now it’s like cmon don’t do that. I understand if you forgot but in this instance you literally just was like oh well we going to short them instead of saying unfortunately we’re out of this and that can we substitute it with any other food. Only reason why I give place 3 is because the food was actually good but unfortunately the service didn’t match.

Limited bar, no potato salad, no yams, crab cakes had a lot of stuffing/filling diminished the flavor, collards sweet and missing the soul. Overall it tasted COMMERCIAL. DISAPPOINTING I'LL BE BACK...??

It’s time at this restaurant. 3 of us went after Church. This was the first time for my husband and I. Had to park in parking lot and paid $5.00 to park. There was a little bit of a wait to be seated. Great service and food was ok. I had 2 Pork chops with Collard Greens and Sweet Potatoes and corn muffin. Everything is individually priced. I also added peach cobbler. Small container but 2 could easily share. I would return again especially since I wanted to try their crab cakes but they were out.

Let me say my waitress was very friendly and had great customer service. My sweet tea was really good, BUTMy food was trash, and the Mac and cheese taste not done and missing ingredients I sent it back. The cornbread came out burnt, and my yam came out cold and tasteless. Now the Collard greens were very good, but they came out warm, not hot. My fried chicken was not done, so I decided to waste it because I was sick of sending my food back.

Most of the food was bland and really tasteless. Fried chicken coating tasted of nothing, had to dose liberally with salt to take anything from it.
Easily one of my favorite spots in Richmond!! If you want some genuine, authentic, down south cookin, this is the spot!! Food is amazing everytime!! It's small but I've never had a long wait, but even if you have to wait, it's well worth it!!!

Momma J's has fallen. Service sucks, drinks suck, impersonal, seems like a fast food joint. So sad. This was a homey fun place. People were nice. No more.
