This food was absolutely below what I expected. Pancakes were bland plain and no flavor. The chicken I ordered was undercooked and just not appeasing at all. No one enjoyed their food, and it was four of us. Wasted 100 and won't return. Only remembered to take photos of chicken, which was rubbery, not cleaned throughly, and just not happy with food!

I came here last week and got the 6th ave platter to share. Everything was amazing. I’m not a hush puppy girl so I can not give my opinion but the YAMS. EVERYTHING! I thought about them for the past 7 days and could not get them out of my mind. The Cajun catfish amazing the chicken? Amazing. The drinks so good but you will want to sip or have some water too. This time we got the Cajun catfish strips and the fried chicken sandwich. We decided to try the greens and mashed potatoes to switch it up but of course had to get a side of yams. Nothing disappointed and if anything only made my week better. Please come here and they will fill you up. This restaurant can take my money any day

Had the catfish sandwich with red beans and rice and some fried green tomatoes and it was perfect - while I was waiting I saw someone get chicken and I already know I’ll be back to try that soon!

Greens are bland. Chicken was way to salty. Drinks were good.

Finally got a chance to visit Southern Kitchen! The parking lot is pretty tiny and was full, but I was able to find parallel parking on the street outside the restaurant easily. I got the 6th Ave platter so I could try things out. I really liked the Cajun catfish fingers and I would probably skip the chicken and go straight for those or try the brisket next time. They definitely don't make things zesty/spicy, they leave that to you to put hot sauce on, which I am fine with. I loved the big quart jar of strawberry lemonade. I've never been served lemonade topped with whipped cream before and it was surprising when it arrived at the table but I tackled it with glee. It delicious. Drawbacks: the fried chicken, though not too greasy with tasty, crispy breading, was a bit dry and unseasoned tasting on the inside, the corncake arrived at the table too cold to melt butter, and they were out of fried green tomatoes. The space is a bit cramped and although it's all on one level, it might not be the best for a wheelchair user. The space does provide a cozy feeling, though. During my meal many regulars came in to pick up food and were greeted warmly by the servers who knew them by name. I definitely see why this beloved soul food restaurant is a Tacoma institution. I'm sure I will be back. So many more delicious-sounding things to try!

The atmosphere was great. The staff were extremely friendly and served in excellence. The food was just ok. The chicken was cooked fresh but not seasoned well. The Mac and cheese was bland and the red beans was missing something. Sweet tea was cool. Willing to give another try.

I recently had a work event with approximately 40 people. They were able to accommodate my request and people are still raving about the best fried chicken they have ever had. I will be using them again in the near future. Gloria was such a pleasure to work with to get this done. Thank you !!

This is one of my favorite spots to have breakfast! Though I had lunch here once too and that was very good too. I like everything I've tried from here but if anyone is a pancake-lover you have to come here for breakfast and order some pancakes! They're exceptionally good.

I’m from Mesquite, Texas and I was embarrassed for these folks. Bad collard greens and the red beans were garbage. The white fish was way too fishy. My microwave still smells like rotten fish after heating up the food when I got home because it was cold. 9 minute drive from my home. 55 dollars for fried catfish and white fish that tasted and smelled extremely pungent. Will not be coming back here.
