“What a wonderful evening we had! The lobster bisque was some of the best ever. The layering of flavors was exquisite! The beef Wellington was perfectly cooked. The gnocchi was so light and fluffy. The veal melted in your mouth. We finished up with a pear martini and the salted caramel dessert. A special shout out to our waitress Jen! We HIGHLY recommend Ciao!! Don’t miss out!“

“The food is very good. But when it comes to take-out food, they don't do very well giving you the extras you ask for - like extra tartar, lemon wedges and things like that. If they need to charge for them, so be it. If we ask for them DELIVER DAMN-IT :-). I'm happy to report they have improved.“

“Found this gem by googling Friday fish fry in Wausau because we were passing through there. Amazing fish tacos … not your typical tiny fish buried inside a tortilla. These are huge chunks of delicious beer battered haddock cooked to perfection with tasty slaw. My husband had the perch and loved it as well. It’s a light batter that enhances the fish but doesn’t take away from it. Service was great and atmosphere too! We were 2 hours from home and said we’d make the trip just to eat there again!“

“My son and I had the pleasure of dining here last night and my goodness, I have never seen portions this large at any restaurant in my life. The food was excellent. Service was excellent. The atmosphere of this enchanting restaurant all decorated for Christmas was stunning. The Landmark building established in 1926, I believe, is evidenced everywhere. To my delight, the marble stairway entering the Peking Restaurant was heartwarming to see. I highly recommend this beautiful establishment. We had a customized pork fried rice due to dietary restrictions. It was perfect. Our main entrees were Shrimp and Snow Peas and a Beef with steamed rice dinner, also perfect. We had to take boxes of food home because they give you so much food.“

“Been here several times. Usually it’s fine which is why I rated 4 stars. Sometimes it’s rough in there. Tonight we were seated at a bar booth. We spend most the time being ignored by staff. While other patrons stood literally directly in front of our table with their backs to us, weird. Who does that. I had to pee for about 15 minutes before I finally tapped a lady on her shoulder and told her I needed to get up from my dining table. Never really figured out who our server was. hostess took out order then had a couple other people clear plates and bring a bill. Food was so so.“

“We’ve just moved to Wisconsin from Texas and decided to stay in Wausau for the night. The pictures looked good and it was close by our hotel. We were the only table in there at 9 on a Friday, but let me tell you… this was by far the best Mexican food we have had since leaving Texas in June. Wait staff was attentive, food was impeccable and I liked that it was low key! 10/10 will be back!“

“The Lobster Rissoto was delicious and very reasonably priced considering the amount of lobster chunks in it. I also ordered an old fashioned which was quite decent. The ambience of the restaurant itself was rather upscale, perhaps exceeding expectations for a smaller city like Wausau. However, it achieved a remarkable balance – elegant yet refreshingly nonchalant, a welcome departure from the often-pretentious atmosphere found in similar establishments within larger metropolitan areas.“

“We were on our way through town on a Friday, so a Wisconsin Fish Fry is always a great choice. Finding a local venue with fish specials on Friday isn’t difficult in central Wisconsin, and we were in luck when we found Whiskey River. We stopped around noon and it wasn’t busy. Seems more like a dinner restaurant option. The lady at the bar, Peggy, was also our waitress and no doubt a hard worker. We ordered the pan fried walleye and the breaded cod - not the beer bartered. The breaded was probably a lighter batter but was still a batter. We thought it would be more of a crust type coating. It wasn’t but it also wasn’t a disappointment. It was very good. It almost had a fresh water taste. The walleye was a good size but it was a little fishy tasting. We know that can be hit or miss sometimes and not the restaurants fault. It was seasoned and coated well.German potato salad was tart and could have been cooked a little more. The potatoes were a little hard so not quite done. But again, it was early in the day and would prob use a little more cooking to be the way we’d like it.The rye bread was really fresh and soft. Tasted great. Also served with Cole slaw. I didn’t have any but my husband didn’t really care for the flavor. The table had a large container of tartar sauce which is always a nice gesture. There were other condiments as well.Peggy left a pitcher of water on the table which made drinking as much as we wanted easy. Thanks for that!!We’d stop again. Prices were very reasonable for the portion. Nice, hometown local vibe.“
