“Wonderful spot to kick back, relax, and enjoy a great cuppa coffee or espresso drink.... along with fantastic blueberry scones, breakfast sandwiches, and other treats.Very down to earth, super sweet setting with great service by the owner operator. Please support this locally owned and run Café.“
“We drive 25 min for this Philz to get a cup of coffee, eat a green chili burrito with hot sauce, then walk around downtown. The staff is always amazing and their coffee is on point. A bold, rich flavor every time. My fave is the Philtered Soul cold brew with oat milk. My husband gets the Aromatic Arabic with a splash of cream.Parking: There is a paid lot right behind Philz. We normally park on the metered main street, but can drive a little further for unmetered street parking as well. We never have to park more than a block away on the weekend.“

“Always the nicest place to hangout. Feels cozy. Best coffee drinks. I love that you can call ahead and they will bring your order to your car.“
“We really enjoy going to the Rising Loafer. We go there frequently on the weekends for the eggs Florentine and veggie omelet. They have the best hollandaise sauce, even better than I can make myself. It's a very simple place with an outdoor patio right by Trader Joe's and a very nice bookstore. The service is good and the owners are pleasant and friendly. We've had plenty of good experiences here and recommend it.“

“I'm obsessed with Mother Tongue coffee beans, been buying them from Seattle Coffee Gear at Stanford. I also found them at the SF Coffee Festival last year. I finally went to their cafe in Oakland and it was interesting, it is more of a bar than a coffee shop. Maybe this is a happening bar after work? The decorations are random and nothing like I was expecting (streamers everywhere, Cartoon Network projected on wall, and current hits playing over the loud speaker). They do have a seating area outside too. They don't have a menu/drink board. I happen to look up their menu online before we arrived but didn't realize the paper menus were near their payment system till afterwards. Because of this, we forgot they even served food other than pastries-we probably would have purchased. We had a latte, coffee tonic, apple fritter, and we bought two bags of beans. Everything was delicious and we would go again.“

“Me and Jungle Cafe is one of the hidden treasures of this part of Oakland. The ambiance indoors is very cozy and cute and wonderfully decorated, and outdoors there is a fantastic back patio with wonderful plants and even a little greenhouse you can eat in. Food offerings include high quality cafe fare, some select brunch dishes like the excellent smoked salmon avocado toast, and also their signature rice wraps- like a fresh Vietnamese spring roll overstuffed with greens and different ingredients. All in all a great place.“

“Found this brand new little gem Cafe Cordoba in Oakland today. I'm a lifelong restaurant owner which makes it hard to please me. This place is amazing. Family owned and operated. I had the big tacos with carne asada. They were absolutely sell. I'll be back time and time again. We need more small business owners like this one. Bravo!“

“Incredible! This place is truly a gem. Very clean, organized, and lots of products to choose from. I decided to dine-in and try the Beet soup which is perfect for a cloudy day. The flavor is incredible! A huge thank you to the customer service associates that helped me navigate through the store and find the Polish Products that I was looking for. This is my first time here but definitely won't be my last.“

The food and drinks are delicious and all plant based. We love the breakfast Sammy on a croissant . They have lots of seating inside and outside. We love sitting at the counter when we can. “I was walking around the Rockridge area on a Sunday morning, looking for a place to grab a cup of tea, and maybe a light snack, and I found this wonderful Eritrean Cafe. The service was fast, friendly, and attentive. The food was fresh, beautifully plated and incredibly delicious! Just wow. And very reasonably priced too. I was at first a little put off by how dark the interior of this place felt, but I think it's safe to say the ambiance is very mellow, laidback, and peaceful. Plus, there's outdoor seating and brighter areas to sit in if you're looking for that. So, if you're in the area, don't miss this place!“

Def a fun experience that’s quintessential Berkeley / Oakland. Check them out if you are in the area.“

“Excellent Bay Area specialty coffee with vegan food menu and enjoyable for anyone! The coffee menu had a handful of creative and tasteful signature drinks along with the classics. While in line I heard someone ask if the drinks were sweet and they kindly said “not St4rbux sweet” which is a green flag for sure to anyone who really knows coffee. They also offered that customer to make their drink less sweet if they were worried. I had my go-to iced americano to see how good their espresso shots taste since I was sure they were doing something right with so many other good reviews and my experience up to that point. The good vibes were there before I even ordered and that coffee hit too! The Avocado toast is on the fluffiest freshest bread with some sprinkled hemp seeds and chili flakes. I also opted for some chili oil and loved it! Super friendly service and a wait time that was indicative of the care they put into each order without having to wait too long! I wish I lived around here cause it seems like THE local community coffee spot I would be frequenting.“

“The BEST coffee I've ever had outside of Italy. A variety of rich, complex, nuanced roasts, plus a strong freshly brewed cup in-store. I have loved and been loyal to them since 1988 (formerly Royal, where the kind owner Michael was a baristo)“

“I've been attempting to try pho a couple of times, but I normally don't like the broth. I was recommended to this place by my coworker. He told me to start off with the chicken broth. I went with my youngest daughter. We got wonton noodle soup and shredded chicken pho with noodles. Chicken broth was nice and tasty for a new person like myself. I added all of the different spices available and it did enhance everything. The waitress was very friendly and explained the menu to us. She helped suggest our choices. She told us what to try for next time. We arrived a couple of hours before closing. So we were the only ones there. It was big with a lot of seating. Main thing to remember is it's a cash only establishment. So don't forget your cash.“

“Such a cute place for Boba. They also have bamboo straws and are now offering hot drinks (and desserts?). The inside tables are rarely full and they have a couple of smaller outside tables as well. “I was pumping Gas across the street and decided to check out Ramona's across the street for an empanada and I must say I was highly impressed by the great customer service of the Business Owner. As soon as I walked in he waved and was extremely friendly he guided us through the menu and ended up trying the chicken and sirloin steak empanadas, and they were absolutely delicious! He then proceeded to offer us a free beer on the house because he is offering free beer Fridays! If you're in Walnut Creek and you haven't checked this out yet you gotta try it!“

“One of those local cafes that feel like family from your first time sitting down. Owner takes your order and fills your coffee. Chef brings out your food with an enthusiastic hoot. Old regulars who moved out of the neighborhood swing by to enthusiastic welcomes, and claim this is the best burrito in the city. I had the California Omelette and it did not disappoint. But it was the love slathered over everything that has me writing my first restaurant review ever.“

“The service and the food are top notch. Our server was friendly, courteous and accommodating. He raved about the owners who are excellent bakers and chefs. Outdoor dining space is really nice and everyone used their PPE except when eating. I had their avocado toast on a very generous slice of homemade sourdough batard, crusty on the outside and chewy goodness on the inside. I swear they gave me an entire avocado all sliced up evenly atop lemon goat cheese spread, and then topped off with a drizzle of olive oil, sea salt, cracked pepper, and a touch of arugula and pomegranate seeds. I asked for a side of egg which they served perfectly soft boiled with a hint of sea salt and cracked black pepper. They served this dish with a cup of fruit and this cup of fruit is not ordinary. It had Fuyu persimmon, red grapes, cantaloupe, and strawberries. Their coffee is hot and strong!!! The homemade sourdough batard toast was so good, I left with an entire loaf!“

“So, I was cruisin' around Concord, craving a caffeine fix. I typed in "closest coffee to me" and bam, this spot popped up, nestled between Peet's and Starbucks. Figured, why not give it a shot? It's in an office building, but don't let that fool ya—it's super easy to find and there's tons of parking. Inside, there's this trio running the show: two lovely ladies and one dude hustlin' hard. They've got breakfast and lunch options, and let me tell ya, I grabbed a bacon, egg, and cheese bagel, and it hit the spot! Coffee? Decent enough for your regular joe. If you're around, swing by for sure!Parking: Parking is located directly next to the building.“

“V&J Fusion is where it's at! This Oakland homey local eatery has friendly service and is dishing out some classic authentic Vietnamese dishes. I don't know anywhere else that makes Bum Mam and let me tell you this places makes it right! The broth is light, sweet, and savory topped with assorted proteins such as their homemade crispy pork belly. To compliment the noodles we got banh mi as an appetizer and yes we asked them cut it 3 ways because the whole fam wanted to try it. The bread was crisp yet soft and loaded with meat. To tie the whole meal together we got some crispy chicken wings with the perfect sauce: fish sauce. This hole in the wall restaurant is a gem. Glad I found this place!“
“Solid place for a bite near Pleasant Hill BART station. I visited earlier this afternoon just before they closed at 3. Today was one of those back-to-back meeting days, and I had to work through lunch, so I was very hungry. I needed a bite before meeting colleagues for drinks and appetizers later in the afternoon. I ordered the Asian Chicken Salad ($10). Service was friendly and prompt - I appreciate that they pulled out a fresh salad bag for me even though it was just minutes before they closed. I took the salad to go, and enjoyed it to the last delicious morsel. Will be back!“

“My favorite Easy Bay cafes for working during lockdown - #1, Hudson Bay One of the things I miss the most during lockdown is having a place to get coffee and work for a while – yes, I know I’m not alone there ;) So I’m going to share my very favorite places to work during lockdown – i.e., cafes that have a fair amount of outdoor seating (and preferably decent Wi-Fi coverage too). The Hudson Bay café was a fairly regular haunt for me during normal times, and during lockdown it’s running pretty well with lots of safety precautions: Perspex screens, sanitizer, and a window counter if you don’t want to walk inside. Staff members were super-friendly as usual and there’s always good music playing (it’s faint outside, so I could just barely hear The Smiths and The Weeknd drifting out through the side door). One thing to note is that the prices are very reasonable – my veggie burrito cost an amazing $7 (or maybe $7.50) – and it had guac in there too! And it was big! I also had an oat milk latte and a slice of pound cake and the whole tab was around $14. For comparison, I paid the same amount at another place this week for a coffee, cookie and plain croissant. Lockdown Stats: • Seating: There are about 6 tables outside and chances are reasonable that you’ll get a spot. If you’re stuck without a seat you can hang out on a bench outside the library across the street. • Bathroom: Another good thing about going to Hudson Bay to drink a lot of coffee – the bathroom is open! It’s surprising how many cafés have no bathroom availability after selling you a big old cup of diuretic! • Hours: Note that they close at 5 pm at the moment, not 6, but they’ll let you linger till maybe 5:30. • Weather: Hudson St. faces southwest, so it’s often pretty warm, even around closing time! • Budget: As mentioned above, Hudson Bay is one of the cheapest places around (esp. on College Ave.) to get lunch. I’m also giving the Hudson Bay Café 4/5 “green stars” for social and environmental impact, based on this: • Very longstanding independent café and community gathering spot. • Coffee beans come from McLaughlin roasters in Emeryville - another East Bay staple. • Some of McLaughlin’s coffee varieties are organic and most are bought directly from cooperatives or family farms that support communities. • It kind of goes without saying that plant-based milks are available – and raw turbinado sugar too. • The menu is a bit more traditional but there are a few veggie and vegan options. I think they’ll also make veggie/vegan mods to a menu item, if you ask, since everything is cooked to order. • There’s not a lot of info available about Hudson Bay’s sourcing of ingredients – my feeling is that the owners want to keep things as unpretentious as possible. Since it’s lockdown I’m not going to bust their balls over it :D • Waste is minimized pretty well, even during lockdown when most places are loading on the plastic. Interested in writing green star reviews? If so, please check out the Green Stars Project.“

“Don't let the lack of a vibey vibe deter you from the tasty quick and no-nonsense items they dish up. I had the Thai Salad Wrap and it was super nice and tasty, simple and fresh. The peanut sauce was just as they describe it on their menu . . . I'll butcher it but something like, "really good peanut sauce." And indeed it was. It was light and punchy and I hope that's how it is all the time. Also, it was great service. She helped me decide between a Turkey Pesto Panini and the wrap. I appreciate that in the age of poor service/post-covid era.“
