Dish Osteria Bar 128 S 17th St, Pittsburgh Italian • $$$

“Beyond being some of the (if not the sole) best Italian food I have ever had, what stands out most about Dish Osteria is their commitment to true hospitality; we arrived early to have drinks at the bar, and from the start we were treated with care and true personal interest. The bartender was so insightful and walked us through the menu, answering any questions we might have so that we could order our dinner with ease (it was last Wednesday at 8PM— I forget his name, but please give him his flowers. He was amazing!). I had the Little Bird bourbon cocktail and absolutely loved it. This level of care continued as we moved to our table for dinner. Our waiter and host went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our meal, refreshing our bread without us having to ask (that homemade focaccia was dangerous— we couldn’t stop eating it!), suggesting wine pairings, and also allowing us to taste two options when we couldn’t choose. Every single dish we ordered was phenomenally crafted and delicious ; we ordered the Gamberi shrimp and grilled artichoke salad to start, followed by the short rib ragu gnocchi and rigatoni with smoked scamorza for our entrees (I will dream about both of these dishes for some time). For dessert, we had the lemon cello cheesecake, which was perfectly balanced with sweet and tangy flavors. Our waiter also provided us with a complimentary glass of moscato with our dessert. This was a phenomenal first experience at this restaurant and I cannot wait to come back. I’m also gifting a visit here to some of my friends for their anniversary and can’t wait for them to try it as well!”

“This hidden gem check all the good boxes! It takes a bit longer to get your food but it really is worth the wait. Our waitress was super nice and it was a very clean place. They have some of the best tasting fries you can get here. Very low noise level and no wait time to get seated. Prices are very reasonable. There is lots of parking in a lot right next door and some behind the building. This used to be Toms Diner. Very nice menu. If you haven't been here you really should try it”

The price seems fair for dinner and entertainmentVegetarian options: They had a vegetarian entrée, roasted vegetables”

Alla Famiglia 804 E Warrington Ave, Pittsburgh Italian • $$$$

“We’ve dined twice at Alla Famiglia and it’s the best Italian restaurant in Pittsburgh. Their portions are massive and we’ve always had enough for lunch the next day. The three things we recommend are the grilled octopus appetizer, any of the veal chops, and the seafood diavola. You need to see the size of the veal chops in person as pictures online don’t do it justice. We thought the Cavatappi tasted better than the Cacio pasta, even though Cacio costs more. Overall it’s pricey for Pittsburgh, but the quality is superior and you get enough for lunch the next day. Another tip is get a bottle of their spicy olive oil on the way out. I add it to many dishes for an extra kick and it makes for a great present.”

I finally got a little reunion group together for brunch when I came back in town for a wedding, and I was blown away. The decor is charming, artful, and full of thoughtful antique restoration mixed with modern touches. The food was absolutely fantastic, I had the smash burger and also tried the bagel with schmear and shakshuka. So rare to find really good bagels in Pittsburgh and Scratch & Co. has them! I had an old fashioned donut as well which was also awesome. And the service was perfection as well. “There's a lot of things to love about fig & ash; it's got a fun atmosphere, great service, and good food. The attentiveness of the staff was particularly a highlight -- different dishes and utensils for each part of the meal showed an attentiveness to the experience. The food is inventive on simple themes, which we loved (but also felt like it didn't hit on some things).Overall, it was a great experience, but I think for what it was, the price is just a little too high (and thus the 4 stars instead of 5). Specifically, some of the food pairings were a little off, and the environment is a bit cluttered. Nothing bad for a slightly less expensive restaurant, but at this price point it's a 4/5 for me.”

Ciao 777 Casino Dr, Pittsburgh Cafe • $

“I've always been fond of Ciao, partially because I rarely had to pay for the food there thanks to casino comps and food vouchers, but honestly they have hands down the best desserts in Pittsburgh. The food is cheap and delicious, but the dessert is the highlight. Tried their cannoli, apple dumpling, mango cheesecake bomb, and the very reason I'm writing this review -- italian cupcake!! Before this cupcake I've never really understood women's obsession with cupcakes, it's a cake with some icing, sure it's small and cute, but I was so sure nothing about the taste of a cupcake can possibly impress me a big deal. and well, this one did! it was a very nice buttery walnut/pecan pound cake, filled with egg custard (the kind you would normally find in a fruit tart), and topped with cream cheese (not the shitty sugary icing, it actually taste like a cheesecake on top of a butter pound cake!) and the walnut/shredded coconut on top is a nice touch too. For the first time I feel the inflated price on cupcakes are totally justified, in fact this one should cost more!! God damn I gotta get this recipe. and their cannoli recipe! (side note: I was comparatively unimpressed with their tiramisu and bearclaw, not because those are bad, just because the other desserts are too good! - just for reference, in case you're picking between several options as I always am)”

They are small and perfect for a quick dessert. Nothing too crazy, but simple and tasty. The pineapple bun unfortunately didn’t have any real pieces of pineapple on it. But, it was still very good. The dough itself is very soft, fluffy, and airy. It is not heavy by any means. The top is crispy and sugary, but the bun itself doesn’t have a ton of flavor. There’s something in the middle but it’s not too discernible. Still, quite tasty. Finally, the cream puff. This was huge and delicious! It was filled with tons of cream, which was surprisingly not too sweet, and more buttery, almost. The dough is also tasty, similar to that of the bun. I’d highly recommend this. All in all, this is an amazing bakery in Mt. Lebo, and one of the few Asian bakeries near the city. Great menu, solid prices, lots of variety. Check it out!Kid-friendliness: Lots of sweet treats for kids”

“I stopped by here earlier today with my wife for our dinner. Cuddy's Soul Food is located inside of Lawrence Food Hall and if you want more information about that you can check out my review for them. From Cuddy's soul food I ordered a pork soul roll and a steak and cheese soul roll. I started out with the smaller of the two which ended up being the pork roll. It was a bit on the greasy side but the flavor was good. It was very porky and I appreciated the collard greens which cut through the pork and then the sweet potatoes which added a bit of sweetness. Then the steak and cheese roll is what you would expect. Lots of steak and cheese with a hint of peppers which made it a very tasty roll. Then I would I be remiss to not mention the sauce which was sweet and spicy and absolutely delicious. I enjoyed dipping both rolls into it and imagine I would like it on just about anything. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I thought that both of my rolls here were good, albeit greasy, and I would be interested in trying some of their ribs in the future.”

“I SHOULD RATE IT LOWER! BUT I WON'T.Ok so I'm going to start with this as a mixed review in two ways one for Priors and the bowling alley since they were both involved. We had a Young teens birthday party there where the bowing alley offers min charge $120 for 8 people. We understood this going in. We only had 5 teens 3 adults. Everyone bowled 1 game the adults had to buy their own drinks even though we paid for (8) the adults were also not allowed to eat. We were told prices went up blame the government. (Wow) so we ordered 3 cokes adults also not permitted to eat so we ordered food. The kids each got a small rectangle of pizza and a few French fries along with their included drink. So not even 1 whole pizza for the party? Was very confused. We could have gone there based on normal pricing paid 40 bucks less everyone would have eaten drank cokes bowl more than 1 game for alot less money. So BE CAREFUL. We did have a hostess as well that will also cost you tip. Our hostess was awesome this experience was not their fault. It was mine for not doing better research. So I'm short if your having a party there skip the party through them and go Alacarte.”

Immediately the two guys in there were delightful and very helpful and cheery. The atmosphere was so fun the moment we walked in. The flavors were amazing and I almost couldn’t choose between the Thin Mint and the Pittsburgh Pride. I ended up going with the latter. It is like brownie/oreo/cookie chunks and butterscotch. There might be another thing added. My mom got the pear flavor. We are both extremely satisfied with our choices. “Best areas I've had from a restaurant! Had a Venezuelan roommate in college and have been friends for 20 yrs. Eaten many areas at restaurants and homemade and these were perfect!I got this nice juicy arepa with a wonderfully crispy corn flour shell and could not have been more pleased with it. Excellent blend of ingredients! I got the pabellon with seasoned shredded chicken, plantain, black beans, and quest fresco, smeared both sauces on and got into the messy traditional Venezuelan hand "taco". With some minor effort it didn't completely fall apart, just a few bites of ingredients fell out. That means they didn't skimp on the food but also didn't overload it to bursting. Perfect! Paired it with a classic Venezuelan Malta barley soda. Yum!The decor here is exactly how it should be you guys are doing an awesome job and 4.8 stars right now is Ballin! Cooked perfectly, not overseasoned. Could argue slightly underseasoned, but would take away from the hot Honey. Great pairing. The Hushpuppies were overcooked, so I can't really judge how good they were. The Comback sauce saved them, that sauce is on point, wished the hushpuppies weren't overcooked. The biscuits were also somewhat overdone. I feel that the Blackberry jam was a tad too tart. I didn't taste the honey in the honey butter. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't good, either. Service was great, but I had one (small) issue with my breakfast plate. Pizza Roma Restaurant 8360 Perry Hwy, Pittsburgh Restaurant • $

“We often order delivery from here and are always impressed with the quality of the food, the quantity, and the speed of delivery. Tonight it was chicken parmigiana with angel hair and a side salad with fried zucchini as an appetizer for me, while my dad did the build-your-own-pasta with gnocchi and carbanara (bacon, mushroom cream) sauce and caesar salad. They said it would be an hour and it was only 30 minutes. I don't know how the fried zucchini travels and still arrives crispy, but they do it, and it's awesome, large slices, very generous, like a whole zucchini, with crisp, though not too thick, breading. It does not include a dip, only lemon wedges, but I have ranch dressing here. The chicken parmigiana was two large breasts, breaded, moist, and smothered in sauce and cheese. The side salads are generous with a thick slice of cucumber, grape tomato, red onion, and lettuce (the caesar - not real authentic but good - with croutons, black olives, grape tomatoes, lettuce, and parm cheese). We are never disappointed and always have leftovers. The one time something was wrong with our order, they promptly came back with what was missing and gave us a credit. Try the focaccia pizzas for a week's worth of great food! Highly recommended!!!”

“Above average American Steakhouse. Service was so efficient. Rolls were hot and addictive even when we were holding back. Waghu beef meatballs were delicious. Wedge salad and Tomato / Burrata were embellished with attention to details. Steak was tender and cooked to perfection. Chilean sea bass was moist and succulent. Roasted chicken had crispy skin. It was tender and sauced nicely Butter Cake is a MUST. Great meal. Great wine list.”

“We ate here before a show while in from out of town and we were so happy with our decision. The 2 person table was romantic. Our server, Jake, was awesome- super friendly, very attentive, personable and great with suggestions. Our drinks were creative and delicious. Our entrees with the homemade pasta was amazing. The dessert, chocolate lava cake with gelato, was fantastic. If you are looking for a delicious dinner with great service, go to Lucca - you will thank me.”

“Primanti Bros is what Pittsburgh is known for. It is the Philly cheesesteak of Pittsburgh. They are known for their sandwiches, which come with French fries within them. They have multiple locations throughout the city, but we chose to go to the one at strip district as it is the original first ever location. Being a weekend, there was a long queue, but the queue moved fast, and we were seated within 15 minutes. I got the original Pitts burger while my friend got the cajun chicken sandwich. Mine tasted great, but my friend’s chicken was quite dry and chewy. While the sandwich was actually quite good, I am not sure if I will be coming back any time soon. I guess I just like my fries to be on the side and not inside the sandwich.”

“We werw in town for NCAA and went there just after 5 on Saturday and didnt have reservations. We were fortunate there were a couple of seats available at the upstairs bar. “I love the burgers at twin peaks. I recently started going here, and I fell in love with the hangover burger. I buy the billionaire bacon as well, sooo good. I like the fries as well, but they have a bit too much seasoning for me. I also enjoyed the blonde beer. The staff is also pretty cool never had an issue with them. And I can't wait to go back and get another hangover burger.Vegetarian options: Salads and they have bean burgersDietary restrictions: Just ask them to take whatever off or exchange the meat for beansParking: A lot of parking just a tonWheelchair accessibility: There's a ramp in the front, I believe.”

“So my fiance and I stumbled upon this awesome shop while walking. We were walking back home. I was going to cook dinner but we could smell the pizza outside. My mama always told me if you can smell the food out the door then it's probably good! Boy was she right! We ordered a Hawaiian Pizza and it was amazing. I told the owner that we relocated to Millvale recently and he gave us two complementary slices to try. The service was great. The restaurant was clean and cozy. This is def my new pizza spot. Sooo good”

“If you are going for the all you can eat sushi I think it is a fair deal! $27 and the menu is huge! Go hungry! The sushi was tasty and came pretty quickly. I would stick only to the sushi though! The appetizers tasted frozen and the noodle soup had no flavor. The only appetizer we liked was the sexy jalapeños but still just B grade! But the sushi was worth it! Tons of choices! The waiter was great and checked on us multiple times so we didn't feel bad about placing many orders! It is pretty crowded and noisy in there but a fun time!”

“I am pleasantly pleased with my visit to Nothing Bundt Cakes in North Hills! The smell that greeted me at the front door was tantalizing! The store's spring season decor was appealing to the eye! Store staff was friendly and personable. There was many options to select from the glass display. My children loved the free sample of the oreo and cream mini. Now, for the good part... the Bundt cake was delicious! So fresh and moist! I will definitely be a returning customer!”

“I came for their industry night and it was great. They have a variety of ginger beer (alcohol and non), cocktails, and local craft beer. The space is a modern and comfortable vibe. There is a small space with a fire pit to hang out outside as well. They did have a food truck while I was there this visit. Not sure if they will continue to have trucks-but there is definitely space for rotating food trucks. The ginger beers were great and their mule was super refreshing and delicious. I'm looking forward to them opening up full time soon.”

Starbucks 9100 Babcock Blvd, Pittsburgh Coffee Shops

“I only wish this existed when I was going to college nearby at La Roche. Apparently a Crazy Mocha once existed in Passavant, but I never made my way to it unfortunately. I have, however, been to some other hospital coffee shops, like the Starbucks in Presby in Oakland. Not only is this Starbucks new, but it looks like some of the main hall at the Passavant entrance was redone too. There are plenty of tables and chairs out front so you can gaze out the window, and the large atrium seating area is nearby. Inside there is ample seating like any location, with an area off to the right to buy branded cups and mugs. Given that it's the holiday season and the special drinks were available I decided to try the white peppermint mocha. The cafe was not too busy for a weekday in the midafternoon, so I was waited on right away. Only a few hospital employees wondered in while I was sitting, as well as a few visitors. Nothing too unique about this location design wise, it's your typical dimly lit but nicely done spot. There is some interesting hospital history and displays father down the hall to explore, as well as the chapel and gift shop.”
