“All the negative reviews were made forever ago, so take them with a grain of salt. Staff are very friendly, and the food was amazing! Took a bit to come out, but the servings were huge! Needless to say, we have leftovers but we aren't mad about it at all. My one critique is that the carne asada seemed overcooked. Overall, definitely worth the visit! Would recommend“

“Ever since JJ's opened up in Wapato, there have been a lot of us that have been hoping that another would open closer... Now we have a couple, and all is right with the world! Queso Birria tacos were not invented here, but in my mind, they represent the inception of such a wonderful dish. Primarily because it's the first place I ever had them. They do more than just beauty get here, but Manda, I do that well. For those who have not had. Tacos, think of meat that sat in a slow cooker for a couple days, and is then put into a taco that is being hugged by another taco with cheese in between. it is seriously all the best things taken to another level! Traditionally, it is done with goat, but the beef down around here is very good. You didn't get a cup of consuming, which is effectively the drippings from the slow roasted meat. It's sort of a red soup, and man, it's good enough to swim in! They have one of the better California burritos in the area as well. The Cali burrito is everything that is awesome about a burrito with fries added inside. It is next level good! The standard tacos, Chalupa's, and really everything they make here, are spectacular. The folks that work here are always helpful, and despite everyone of these places, being perpetually, busy, to get everybody served and well taken care of! The actual inside of the restaurant is simple, but there's plenty of space to spread out and the number of large and small tables. You owe it to yourself to try this place. It is seriously the type of spot that you will try and then come here three days later because it's so good! Welcome to town JJs!“

“Great little family run Mexican food restaurant. It meets multiple criteria. First of all, authentic Mexican cooking isn’t going to come from a high school kid cranking out tacos. The kitchen and staff are authentic. Next criteria, when you see the restaurant packed with Hispanic diners, it’s a very good sign (never understood why Taco Bell checks that box often)The food and service were excellent. We will definitely be back!“

“This is a small restaurant space, but the incredible food and genuine service more than make up for the small space. The quesabirria tacos are THE best around and the “large burrito “ weighs close to 4 lbs (before I doused it in salsa!)! We eat here at least once weekly and never tire of the delicious options!“

“This place is hands down my new favorite Mexican restaurant. The food was delicious, not greasy had flavor and was made very well! Have not been able to find good quality Mexican food in a while! Prices are great, which will keep me coming back. The GUYs that work there are AWESOME, friendly, and actually have customer service skills. Can't say the same for the one vieja that works there, anyways I'll still continue to show my support for this establishment for the men that work there!“

“We love this little restaurant! Same menu as the larger El Porton restaurants, but this one is small, quaint & feels like family. It's our go to, favorite restaurant for a full service, delicious Mexican meal. The staff is friendly & service is supreme.“

“I just went there and there was a man that was mentally ill that I tried giving money to. He couldn't hardly speak but I got the hint he wanted food. I gave them $5 for food for him. I know it wasn't enough to cover his meal but as I was watching from the rearview mirror I could see them passing him the food. Thank you so much for that! Everyone knows this place has good food that's why everyone goes there but it takes good people to do that for someone.“

“We were here from out of town and had no idea where to eat and decided to try JJ's. We had the birria tacos with the dip with rice and beans. Iam pretty picky about mexican food because I cook my own, so we never go out for mexican but this was over the top good. We loved it! It was hard to choose because of the great menu selections but seems like we picked the right menu item. The gentleman that took our order was patient and helpful when we asked questions. The only negative thing I have to say is it was freezing cold in the dining area and it was 68 degrees outside so I don't understand why it was so cold in the restaurant. Having said that tge food was fantastic.“

“Great tasting tacos. Highly recommended. Service and atmosphere lack in comparison to the flavor. Not the cleanest of places. If you are looking for some of the best tasting tacos around at a very decent price and care about nothing else then definitely try this place out. Highly recommend bringing cash. Debit or credit will increase your price per taco considerably.“

“Fast, fresh, friendly and fantastic family owned find❣️. You might find Mama talking your order or chatty Erik or more fam. Food is excellent. Limited menu, but that’s good. And there are currently sweet EMPANADAS!! They’re small, delicate and delectable.I love the pineapple and Nutella is an option. My uncle loved the cocoa flan. 😍 I think my fave taco place is now a contender for an espresso stop with, did I mention, EMPANADAS!?!“

“Great breakfast. As someone from Texas who misses a weekend plate of migas, the Huevos a la Mexicana breakfast was a treat. Generous portions and freshly prepared. My wife ordered the Chorizo con Huevos, and she loved them as well.BTW... They have an extensive Salsa Bar where tostadas are available, so I was able to create psudo-migas!.“

“Authentic, delicious food. I had tacos, which are large, filling and delicious. My dinner companions had a huge chicken burrito, which was also great. Restaurant, including the restrooms, is clean and bright. If we lived here, we would come again.“

“After being a customer for 15+ years, needless to say- this is my favorite taco place in town. I love the fact that the food here is wholesome. Ingredients are simple and I can order with confidence knowing the side of beans for my infant are not fried in lard and the tortillas are not dipped in oil. Just delicious handmade corn tortillas with whole toppings. What keeps me coming back is their fiery habanero salsa which never fails to disappoint!“

“I had no idea that Los Hernandez Tamales had a second location. I was really questioning the GPS when it was leading us there but it didn't lead us astray at all. I knew only of the Union Gap location which is not far from the Interstate and just a little south of the Yakima city limits. But this location does indeed have a Yakima address. In some ways I like this location a little more. There is just a few more tables and seats at this location than the other and if you want a beer to go with your meal you can have one. Menu is a little bit expanded as well which I am sure is good but we can never pass up these James Beard award winning tamales when we are in the area. The tamales are as good as ever. I had a pork one and a Jalapeño one and they were just out of sight like they always are. We get the meal usually and the rice and beans that comes along with the tamales are just stellar. So very glad to know that another location exists in Yakima. It's a bit of a drive from the Interstate, twenty minutes about but the extra bonuses would make it worth it not that the Union Gap location doesn't deserve just as much love.“

“I always try and eat here when I'm in town.We had a great dinner. Our server seemed very busy. He was very attentive but a little pushy. He took a plate away without asking, and we hadn't finished yet. I'm so thankful he didn't take my Pico de Gallo, I packed it all the way back to tri cities!“
“Don pati diddled me in the back? I mean I’m not complaining excellent customer service knows how to make his guest feel at home? he gave me this funny sour cream with my menudo called “the chefs specialty” he said extra seasoning but it was spicy I’ll be coming back for more of the chefs specialty ( I double dip)“
