Wildly exceeded any expectations, all the dishes we tasted were perfection. Between 3 of us we shared the Tuna Sushimi, brussel sprouts, Nashville fried chicken, pork belly bao buns, and the Viet Clay pot. Cocktails were light and fresh; and we were treated to a birthday dessert as well. Our server was amazing, didn’t catch the name, but really was a big part of our fantastic experience tonight. Thank you for a great evening!

Have been there couple times, enjoyed everything we tried, menu is very unique and creative. I really liked the Pork Belly & Foie Gras Steamed Buns. Pork belly had lots fat on, thick cut, lean meat part wasn’t dry. Buns were nice and fluffy.Liked the decor, good environment, good service.

Went here for my birthday with my wife and 11month old - once the waiter had seen we had a baby they moved us right away to a more spacious and comfortable table. The food was amazing the service was great not a bad word to say about this place and our experience.Highly recommend

Each dish we had, had so much flair to it. They are quite unique.Favourite dish highlights:- The sliders were savoury and melts in your mouth.- The Siu mai was to die for.- The duck with crepes was a different take on Peking duck.- The milk baos were light, not overly sweet and felt like little pillows in your mouth.Service was exceptional and the drinks were delicious too! I'd highly recommend going here. Cheers.

Quick service, good vibe, and close to the Calgary Tower. We were in town for work and a colleague highly recommended we stop in here. Everything was delicious and I would go back just for the fried rice.

Went here for dinner. The food was delicious. We had the brussel sprouts and Nashville hot chicken for our small plates. The chicken was alright but the brussel sprouts were very good. I would highly recommend ordering this as a starter. They give you plenty of the brussel sprouts to share for two people. For dinner we ordered a large plate of the short rib dish and the Vietnamese clay pot chicken. The short rib was very good. Highly recommend it. The clay pot chicken was good but this is not a shareable meal. It is a soup so you shouldn't be sharing it.I felt this place was a 4.5 out of 5. The taste of the food was excellent however I felt there approach to tell you to buy two small plates and two large plates to share was just to get you to spend more there. The portions were good enough for a party of two to have one small plate and two full plates. I also was annoyed that the server advised about sharing food but when we order the chicken clay pot did not explain that this wasn't shareable. While the drinks were excellent I was a bit annoyed that they didn't have highball prices but then changed a price higher than any cocktail they had for a double Cardhu on the rocks ($22). I can buy a bottle of Cardhu for under $90.Lastly, we were the first people in the restaurant and it still took one hour to get our large plate orders to us. This is too long. The food was worth the wait but they need to work on timing a bit more.

Found this restaurant on avenue magazine and decided to give it a try. Overall I would rate is 4.5 and here is why. Pros: Nice decoration full of Asian culture, you have a choice between dining area and sit behind a bar for a quick drink. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Food is amazing. Cumin lamb is surprisingly tasty, papaya salad has all the right flavours, pork belly melts in your mouth, Peking duck is on the less greasy side and tasty,l.Winner of the night for me is the squid ink spaghetti with Tom yum coconut flavour sauce and loaded of seafood. It’s a must order.Cons: no AC on a 31+ days isn’t very pleasant, papaya salad portion is small (1-2 people), nothing special with the steelhead trout. And this one is my personal bias: one of the pictures on the wall has this lady wearing traditional clothes that’s holding a hookah used for opium back in the days (I could be wrong in terms of what she is actually holding). It didn’t set the impression right from the start, but I would still give it 4.5 rating for the incredible food.

We had a mixed experience at Foreign Concept. We decided to go for small plates only to be able to try more. What we liked: the spring rolls, the papaya salad, the beef slides. What we missed: somehow missed the ‘excitement’ / ‘spice’ for some dishes (eg Nashville chicken would have deserved a dip; Tuna tataki was missing some salty touch); also, service was below what I would expect (no explanation of the menu, we had to ask for new water ourselves, …). Anyways, some nice dishes, but definitely room for better! 4 stars in benefit of the doubt, given staff situation is difficult these days!

We had one of the best dining experiences of our lives tonight at Foreign Concept! The papaya salad was sweet and delicious with its wonderful dried satay. The duck dish was just perfect and very filling, and the calamari with green curry was creative and perfectly salted to my taste. Oh and the lemon curd beignet was to die for ! Also contrary to another review I read, we felt portions were generous. What really put the meal over the top was the very kind and genuine attention from Lanny who took care of us. Another highlight of the night we appear to have by coincidence been sat next to the owner of the restaurant Duncan Ly!

Really great food, the composable dishes like the Lemongrass Glazed Duck Breast are super good - all the food is interesting, and very tasty.Mama Ly's Pork & Shrimp Imperial Rolls were awesome (and really filling), next time we were told to try the Fish Sauce Caramel Brussels Sprouts with rice.

I found the food was good. However the service was extremely rushed which ruined the experience for me. When I go out for dinner to an establishment like Foreign Concept, the ambiance, taking my time to enjoy dinner, and enjoying conversation is all a part of the experience for me. Our server over served. A good server knows how to find the sweet spot in allowing guests the opportunity to enjoy their dinner while also offering great service. Our conversation was interrupted on multiple occasions, dishes were cleared in the middle of the table while in the process of eating, plates were cleared and my drink taken away when I wasn’t even finished them. Our main dish ended up being cold because it was brought out so quickly while still eating our appetizers. I probably should have said something, but that is not my style. I would like to give this place another shot and hope this was just a server issue. But she ruined the experience for me.

I visited here to grab food before attending Mozart's Requiem on May 14 by the marvellous Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and Karl Hirzer. And I am glad that I made this decision.Food tasted great, and I was happy to say I enjoyed something i wouldn't experience otherwise. I usually ask the server what food I should get if I want to experience something that's unique to this restaurant. I also ask which appetizer goes along with whatever food I chose to go with. The server, Jeremy, was knowledgeable, and answered every question I had with great care. Also, I had a chance to overhear the conversation between Jeremy and the table next to me who had dietary restrictions (allergies). Jeremy was super-attentive, cautious, and patient enough to check everything with the kitchen to ensure they get the best experience there. I could tell that this restaurant goes above and beyond in terms of service.I specifically asked the server his name because I wanted to say positive things about my experience. If I am visiting Calgary again (hopefully for another marvellous concert by the Calgary Philharmonic), I would not hesitate to visit here again!
