We had tried their sister restaurant Posto multiple times, but it was the first time we went to Free House. The food was amazing, especially their feature pasta. They also let us use a 20% off from our Posto receipt, and gave us a new one to use in Posto.

The vibe of the whole place is great! It has the best beer list North of the Bow River, and the food is always good. Jake is one of the best bartenders in the city! And the all the staff are friendly, casual, and so good at what they do! Definitely a must-visit!

I'm not one to normally write reviews but I had to in this case.My husband and I went for lunch and everything was really bad.He ordered the chicken sandwich which was supposed to have hot sauce but came out with sweet bbq sauce on it and the chicken itself was completely bland. I got the burger which was decently tasty but so so small, with no side for $16.The vibe in there was SO weird, almost awkward. The music could not have been quieter we felt like we had to whisper because it was basically silent in there. The service was incredibly slow but friendly.Honestly just a really bad experience overall which I find doesn't happen often in this city.I feel bad saying this, but I wouldn't recommend to anybody. Spending $75 and not really enjoying anything really sucks.

Had the best experience at Freehouse! Our server Minye was unbelievable. The chef, Kevin, complimented us to some of his beef bourguignon and a pie that left our mouths watering. What an amazing and unexpected experience. 10/10 service and all around night at the freehouse and we cannot wait to come back for their Thursday night tasting room! We came here for our first date a few years ago and being from out of town, we chose to come back and we are so happy with our experience! Big thanks to Minye & Kevin!

We went here for the YYC hot chocolate fest. To try their Mexicano hot coco. We arrive around 11:15. We had 3, one not spirit, 2 spirits. The hot chocolate much better w/o spirits, now into the food. WHAT A JOKE!!!! We order the butternut squash dip. The server said it was her “favorite dip” and a breakfast sandwich. We asked about how much longer the food would be at 12. As there was only one other table there and they were already eating. I even asked the serve to look at the time it was rung in at cuz it’s a sandwich & dip. Imagine my surprise when it came out 10 mins later and was BURNT!!! The cook tried to cover his mistake in fried sage( which also was fried on with day old oil, or oil that had been used for other items) when fryingSage you fry do it all at once and right with clean oil to not make the sage inedible & doesn’t absorb the flavour of other products. The dip was for my mom, like don’t burn an old ladies food. And 45 mins for 2 things was outrageous. It also is NOT accessible to physically disable without help as there is no stairs on the railing to get in.

Sat at the bar for happy hour. The bartender Jake was great. He found the exact beer I wanted, but didn’t know I wanted! Made the experience :)

Fantastic from the welcome to the have a great evening. Host paired different varieties of beverages perfectly with food. Was very knowledgeable and answered all the questions. Food was excellent. Chef was easy to talk with and described processes amazingly. We had an amazing great time and will be returning regularly.

This is a highly recommended place to go and share delicious and light food. It has many alternatives to eat between two people! It's a great place.

Came in last night. Great service and decent drinks. But the food was really dissapointing. We got the onion dip which was good but literally just came with a can of pringles. They couldn’t even bother to take off the gfs label before bringing it to the table. We also ordered the green salad which was okay but boring. The brussel sprouts were really good but way over garnished. We literally had to dig through cilantro to even see the pork and brussel sprouts. The most dissapointing part was the braised brisket pizza. It had absolutely no flavour. At all. Probably the most bland food I’ve ever tasted at a restaurant ever. And considering the toppings I can’t believe that was even possible. Not even hot sauce, chili flakes, and salt could save it. It was also overly garnished. You couldn’t even see the toppings because of all the chives.

Free house is confusing because it’s a beer house that tries to serve “elevated food”. The issue is some of the menu is all over the place and the execution of those dishes are either an extreme hit (hello happy hour burger) or an extreme miss (salad, tartare, house made pickles etc).Everything is heavily salted so be prepared to feel thirsty afterwards. While this isn’t a huge deal breaker, the chef doesn’t make fries ( lovingly dubbed by a few of the staff as “chef no fries”).The service is also hit and miss. You have some staff who are extremely knowledgeable and then others who don’t know and don’t care, so it’s a gamble on what kind service you’ll get when you’re there.Happy hour is pretty good in terms of value, the beer selection is big and the space itself is lovely. But overall for me? No fries? No thanks.

We went there expecting just to have a pub type dinner. Ended up we ordered their 3 course special. Was great. Nice to venture outside our comfort zone. Staff were so nice and accommodating. Even made me a special cocktail I requested.

I was debating using Free House for a company party so my husband and I went to check it out and had the best experience!Matt served us, first he asked for any food restrictions or allergies and then brought us the best food without us even seeing a menu. We tried the onion dip, sweet potato fritters, brussels sprouts, sirloin, and the carrot cake... everything was made in-house and excellent. Matt explained that everything is sourced locally and their specialty is hosting parties with as little stress to the host as possible.I will absolutely use Free House for company parties any time we have the opportunity!
