They have an amazing cocktail selection, setting and atmosphere was perfect for a date night enjoying the evening. Food was more fusion Japanese presentation.

My opinion of Nupo has really dropped since my last visit. We went for the YYC Exp prix fix.First the good: the sushi was good, especially the Gindara, on par with some of the better sushi spots in town. The celeriac and clam soup was excellent. The misses: The oyster was comically small, we could barley taste it. The trout roe with tuna was a very interesting presentation, but really didn't taste good. The overly fishy roe overpowered everything else and had an unpleasant mouthfeel. Ditto on the chawan mushi ($13), stylish, but didn't taste good. Does the kitchen actually taste these dishes? The real annoyances though were:The prepaid tip - when there is no choice, it is not really a tip, is it? While our server was fine, we should still have a choice. The noise level. Everyone in the restaurant was screaming to be heard over the noise of the music, kitchen, the overcrowded room. My companion and I just gave up on any conversation at all, and our server had to repeat herself multiple times to be heard. The volume was very unpleasant, and doesn't match the menu or the premium prices charged here.Too bad. I can handle high prices, noisy room and hit/miss food, but not all at the same time.

I booked the Culinary Journey with beverage pairings for a birthday celebration and were very excited as we love Shokunin and were hoping for the same great experience. We were very disappointed primarily in service and ambience. The beverage pairings came out with no explanation and not with the right food courses. We were already through one of the courses and then the beverage paring would come out. We had to ask for soy sauce a few times before it was brought to the table. It’s just those little things when you pay over $500 for a meal that really stand out and make the experience disappointing. For us the ambience was just too loud (in fact half way through the night it was turned down, so I’m not sure if someone had complained) and far too crowded, for the price you pay.One good thing was the sablefish. It was amazing, but it’s not enough to bring us back.

You give me an alcoholic beverage and because I don't drink alcohol I give it to my fiance and then you come and take it away from her even though it was already paid for online which cost $415. Tell us to not be late and then seat us in a hotel lobby when we arrive, super classy. The most arrogant owner I have ever encountered! No need to reply to save face with me or you google customers.

Food was excellent- had the Valentines Menu and loved every course. Unfortunately the music was uncomfortably loud- difficult to hear server or have a conversation. On request they did lower the volume for a while but then it once again was increased. Sadly this negatively impacted the dinner.

Awesome little spot. We did the Omakase experience and it was incredible. The chef was awesome and it was fascinating watching him build his creations and then explain the thoughts and flavors behind it. Probably the best sushi I've ever had in my life.

I visited this place with my wife to find a new sushi place for ourselves1) service was bad, ( not whole restaurant) specifically one server she also tried to overcharge us. When I told her that food that we got doesn’t worth money she start ignoring me.2) Overpriced place, I’ve been in plenty sushi places and this specific place is average quality nothing special but they charge too much.If you planing to visit this place and get full be prepared to spend $200-$300 per person

Food is quite good, but not great. It's the best sushi I have had in Calgary but it is a total shame that it's not better than Sushi Tachi in Toronto, given it cost almost triple what Tachi cost.

Best sushi I've had in Canada. And I've tried it everywhere... The aged sushi is phenomenal.

This was our first time here and we definitely were impressed. The food is quite expensive but the quality is amazing. We had various sushi, some rolls, the bbq scallop, fish tacos, and sablefish donburi. Everything was amazing and our server knew the menu inside and out and had great recommendations.

If you are looking for a proper Japanese experience, don’t go. Their sushi rice is very flavourful, so much that you can’t taste the fish. Their nigiri is not hand crafted to any proper nigiri Japanese standard. It is also 20% smaller than most nigiris at other restaurants. They have very good cocktails and very good service; just small portions and not very Japanese.$100/p will get you not hungry, not remotely full.
