This restaurant has easily become one of my favorites on Whyte Ave. The atmosphere inside is amazing, with traditional Japanese paintings, geisha dolls, and Japanese instrumental music playing. The food is amazing. The flavours are balanced, and the plating is simple yet elevated. Some recommendations for me include the takoyaki, as well as the dragon eye roll. The tempura is a classic choice, and it's very good. All the portion sizes are large, and the prices are very reasonable. I frequently order extra here to make sure that I can take leftovers home!I am so glad I discovered this restaurant, and I hope to visit many more times!

Best Japanese in Edmonton easily. Not to mention the staff are some of the kindest people you will ever meet. I love Furusato and visit every time I am in Edmonton; at least once.

A true hidden jem of a Japanese restaurant in Edmonton at an affordable price point. From the outside, it does not seem much, but inside is similar to a typical family-owned Japanese restaurant. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is calm. More importantly, the foods are amazing and authentic Japanese. We love the tonkatsu, katsudon and yakisoba. Everything we tried so far is spot on, yum!

This place is next to my brother's place and we have gone there consistently for the best sushi on Whyte. The servers was so kind, attentive and hard working. I highly recommend the spider roll and the I Love You roll. They are the specialty rolls at the back of the menu and they are for sure the best bang for your buck!

I stopped by Furusato along Whyte Ave for dinner a few months ago. The restaurant looked mediocre at best from outside. However, it was unique and cozy with all the interesting decor. Service was good as they offered new plates throughout the meal and the servers were friendly. In terms of food, I tried their Large Assorted Sashimi, Tempura Udon, and Dragon Eye Roll. There was quite a bit of tempura with the udon and the overall dish was comforting. The Dragon Eye Roll was crispy and decent. What stood out the most was the large assorted sashimi. All the sashimi were quite fresh, with the best being red tuna, tuna, scallop, and salmon (it also came with octopus, butterfish/white tuna, red snapper, amaebi, surf clam). The sashimi felt like a good value given the quality and price. That being said, the pieces were smaller than most places. Overall, it felt like a small hidden gem on Whyte and I'd give them 8.5/10

Staff were very friendly and welcoming even though it was just a pick up order. The decor was cozy but could use better ventilation as it smelled strongly of frying oil. They were timely with the order but to my disappointment the sushi was difficult to finish. Made myself eat half of it but had to stop - rice was overly dense and fish tasted stale. I may even prefer grocery store sushi... Hope they can improve on the food taste/quality

Unfortunately not that great. Spicy salmon roll had very little if any salmon in it. Looked like avocado roll with red smear on it. Usually there is a large piece of salmon in a roll like this. Rolls had no structure and fell apart, despite fairly heavy-handed rice application. Mackerel roll was not good, had to toss. Service excellent but won’t be back.

The food quality has significantly declined compared to my previous visit. Everything was excessively salty, and the ingredients lacked freshness. On the positive side, the service was good.

This is the worst restaurant I've ever eaten at in Edmonton. I ordered a pork chop combo (tonkatsu) and it turned out that the pork chop was made and cut a couple days ago and was already drying out in the cross section. Not only did the pork chop taste juiceless, the pork chop literally looked like it had died of dehydration after three days of fighting in the desert. The breadcrumbs on the surface were like sand. The proprietor of this restaurant doesn't seem to know much about Japanese culture; the bowl that holds the rice is a sake bowl used by the Japanese for drinking. So I refilled another cup of rice. I didn't realize that I would be charged another two dollars for this refill. When I got home after eating, I had diarrhea, no surprise. If you want to lose weight, welcome to this Japanese restaurant that is definitely not run by Japanese.

I went with my Japanese student and she said it’s totally authentic. I’ve been going here for over 15 years and still is my go-to. Amazing value. Order the Gyoza combo and you get more than enough food. Tonkatsu was totally authentic. Yum!
