I haven't been to The Bubbly Mermaid since pre-COVID, but I felt compelled to write a review now. The pandemic has been hard on so many businesses, I commend any that are doing what they need to in order to keep their staff and customers safe. Each time that I've visited the Bubbly Mermaid, the oysters have been fresh and delicious, and they have the most expansive selection of bubbles I've ever seen. The bartender was extremely knowledgeable helping us select several bottles, each were absolutely fantastic. I look forward to returning (with a reservation) the next time I'm in Anchorage!

Hmmmm. This was a bad experience. Warm oysters. Over charged for champagne. The owner trash talked previous guests. We saw a mouse at the end of our meal. What a cute space and concept but unfortunately we felt like we overpaid. To be clear I appreciate their vax only status and don't mind prepaying but charging me $100 for a bottle of Cava when it's $15 at the store and not even special is not okay.

The owner is this establishment is very rude. I tried to make a reservation and they vulgarly responded to me for not following their protocol. I'll never go here and I'll never recommend it to anyone. As a paying customer I expect to be treated with a corpuscle of respect. I even spoke with some locals who said "yeah they have a reputation for being rude".

Horrible service. Was so excited to return to this establishment after a few years but now the restaurant doesn't seat you without medical status proof, and won't give you a reservation unless you agree to spend a certain dollar amount. Staff communication is text only and the texter is very rude. We went to the glacier brew house instead and were treated with kindness.

I was in Anchorage over the summer. I've never been to a restaurant that required me to pay in advance. Not just take a credit card but wanted to payment prior to coming. Because other people during Covid had canceled.

I have been wanting to try this place when I knew I was coming to Anchorage. I understand Covid times but the door was locked when I walked up. There was one person in the bar plus the owner/bar tender. He said I couldn’t come in unless I bought a bottle for $100. I said no I just want a glass and he said read the sign. Only one person at a time. When I read the notice it said to contact them for reservations. Like I said I understand covid, but they must not want to stay in business if they deny someone a glass of champagne when there was one person in the bar. Very sad. Don’t waste your time.

This place has an unbeatable atmosphere, excellent champagne selection, and very tasty oysters (both baked and raw)! Prices are quite high, but what you would expect from an oyster/champagne bar with very limited seating. Be prepared to rub shoulders with your neighbor whether you know them or not in this quaint, unique Anchorage staple. Arrive early for best seating and help from the knowledgeable owner.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience with Apollo! This is certainly not your average “night out”. Much more of a beautifully educational pairing of two delicious delicacies! Would recommend to anyone!

Loved it, great to taste a variety of oysters and learn which were our favorites! Host was very knowledgeable and helped guide us through a new experience. Will definitely be coming back next time I am in Alaska, or wherever he ends up.

The Bubbly Mermaid was the perfect ending to our trip to Alaska. Apollo was so knowledgeable in regards to oysters, champagne and tequila. He was welcoming and kind and made the experience so personal. I would 100% recommend others indulge in this dining experience.

The owner is the rudest person I have ever met. After he berated and cursed at customers, we decided to leave. The COVID rules are ridiculous and the pompous arrogant owner is ridiculous. I would recommend to anyone. Avoid at all cost.

Lame a** judge business screening people and only letting 2 people in the entire place. Hope it fails

Amazing experience with Apollo, the owner. A very knowledgeable and talented chef/host. The oysters, both cooked and raw, were delicious. Selection of champagne excellent! Ignore the one star reviews, if you're trying to save money, move on. If you enjoy the finer things in life, make a reservation ?.

A lovely time, plenty of knowledge, and kindness. Apollo is a gracious host. Payment is possible by cash, check, or alternative payment such as venmo, apple pay, or zelle.
