Driving through town on a road trip, wanting a tasty breakfast before leaving town. I am so glad I stopped in! Parking was easy in the street out front at 8:30am on this Thursday morning. The rower had several tables inside for dining or work (WiFi was available). Outside seating was available out back as well. The menu online matched the menu on store if you like to plan ahead. The staff were super helpful and knowledgeable about the pastries and flavors! Per their recommendation I got an almond croissant and cheese danish with fresh strawberry jam on top. I also ordered a lavender honey latte and a loaf of sourdough to go. The latte paired with the pastries was exactly the treat I needed! It was savory and sweet and just the right amount of food to fill me up and then some. I will be using the sourdough in the next few days and am looking forward to sandwiches and dippy bread!

Delicious pastries and coffee. Cinnamon bun was my favorite. Most places make them too rich with way too much icing. This one was perfect with just enough glaze to compliment.

Best sourdough bread in Birmingham!!! They even cut it for you! Staff are always very friendly and accommodating too! Highly recommend! I do wish they served chai :( Their hours are also really inconvenient in that I'm never off work in time to swing by but it's OK their awesome bread and customer service makes up for it.

Archie the barista is seriously awesome. Super knowledgeable and friendly. Gave me the best customer service experience of my life. The coffee and bread is good too (I’m French so I know a good loaf when I see one).

We drive to Birmingham weekly to the VA clinic across the street. We love their loaves and enjoy their desserts. Be sure to order the bread ahead of your visit.

Thanks to the person who posted about the additional charges, I looked up my electronic receipts. I, too, got charged for "extra avocado spread" on my avocado toast on my last visit. The funny thing is that I never asked for (didn't even know that I could) or did any one ask me if I wanted extra avocado spread. I was charged $2 extra. BTW, I don't know where they put that extra avocado because it wasn't on my toast. It was the thinnest spread of avocado that I've ever received at any restaurant. Sad to do that to customers. I won't return and I'll be sure to tell all my colleagues & friends who patronize the place to double check all the items on your receipt before paying. They should not be allowed to get by with something like that.

I am a frequent visitor to this place. I noticed only recently that there are hidden charges that they don't mention anywhere. The menu showed that avocado toast was $6.50 only later did I realize that they charged $6.50for the toast plus $2.00 for avocado spread. I think it is ridiculous to pay $8.50 for two little pieces of toast with a little spread of avocado. They also charged an extra $1.00 for the oat milk in cappuccino that I ordered which some stores do, but they tell you beforehand so you know what to expect.I placed a 'to go' order of two pastries and was charged an additional $0.35 each for the paper they were wrapped in. Yes, it does not look like much, but it adds up. It also irritates me because the business we need to support wants to nickel and dime customers with hidden charges. If they are only interested in making money, I suggest charging a door fee of $0.50 for using their door, a service fee of $2.00 per item for taking customers order,a table usage fee of $1.00 per person and don’t forget additional fee for any utensils or napkins used.

I love Birmingham Breadworks! Always friendly and the bread is excellent. Today I got a huge delicious loaf of day-old sourdough for half price - just ~$6. I'll keep going back. Go buy some bread!

More often than not, I come in between 6:30-7:00, and am turned away when I want to order avocado toast or pimiento cheese toast. I’m always told that the person who cooks those items doesn’t start her workday until later in the morning. This happens even when I’m the only customer inside the building. You can’t call ahead to check to see if it is possible to order these items, because the phone most often goes to voicemail. This NEVER would have happened with the previous owner.
