My parents and I came here for dinner on a Friday night. The place was packed, which made me think the food must be *amazing*, right? Wrong. First off, the atmosphere reminded me of a combination between the flea market and cracker barrel, and to top it off their wifi network was down, I'm guessing so that people can't write bad reviews while they'rethere. Tacky plastic plants and dusty old decor greeted us as we took our seats. We waited an hour for our food, which I was hoping meant that it was going to be fresh and delicious, but sadly that was not the case. Their food would be better suited for a retirement home or school cafeteria. I ordered the rib plate with fried okra and cole slaw, which for a place called The Hickory Chip should be a solid choice. Nothing tasted like it was seasoned at all. I'm pretty sure their dry rub was just salt and pepper. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, I'll give them that, but most of the meat was so chewy and dry it reminded me of pork jerky. Only about half of the meat was actually edible. I had to drown it in barbecue sauce (which was actually quite good, but sadly wasn't used while they were actually smoking the ribs or else they'd actually be tender and flavorful). The fried okra was cold, bland, and mushy. And the cole slaw? The cole slaw was an insult to generations upon generations of southern women everywhere. I don't know why, but they *pureed* the it. It, too, was bland, had the consistency of baby food, and wasn't even cold. I called it cole slop. I literally could drink it through a straw. I'm pretty sure the tears i shed were the most flavorful thing about it. The meal was served with a toasty, buttery slice of texas toast, which truly was the best thing about the entire meal. The place has potential, I'll give it that, but you can tell nobody there puts pride in their work. Do better, guys. There's no reason a place like that should serve such underwhelming food in such a tacky atmosphere. I feel like I got Hickory jipped.

Went with some friends. My food was well, but two out of the four had cold plates. The waitress was quick to pick up on the disappointment of my friends, and brought new plates. Unfortunately, the tater tots were horrible both times (overcooked and drenched in oil)

We were a party of four with catfish and hamburger steak dinners everything was cooked to order, hot and delicious. An abundant amount that we were able to bring home leftovers. Service was great as well, definitely will be back soon and will give great recommendations.

Was very nice and the staff was very nice and polite and very professional very pleasant to deal with and the food was amazing can't say enough about how good the food was and how the staff were very tentative and all and all 110% if in the area and want a delicious meal must try I promise you won't be disappointed ?Parking: Can fit a bobtail simi in the lot no problem plenty of parking and easy to find parking.

Server had an attitude and overall was not happy and looked like she hated her job and didnt want to be there! only checked on us 1 time while we were there.A different waitress that was not even ours was super nice! She brought our food out and checked on us multiple times!I still left the our waitress a 10 dollar tip even though I felt she did not deserve it!The food was amazing!Rating 2 stars since our waitress made it a not so good experience and rating 5 stars on the food!
This should have a single $, because $14 (including tax) for a half rack of ribs with two sides and toast is really fair. The hickory flavor on the ribs was delightful.I arrived before a rush, so I was in and out in about 30 minutes; they work pretty quick.They also played some 80s rock music, which was also a relief as I expected some country music here in the middle of nowhere Alabama (am I stereotyping?)

The place feels cozy and like your favorite aunt and uncles place. We are new to this restaurant - but we certainly will be back soon. They have what they called "Hot Hamburger" which is a hamburger steak on 1/2 a bun with mushrooms, cheese, brown gravy and sautéed onions. It is shown attached. The brown gravy is very savory and the hamburger melts in your mouth. Served with a side, we chose sweet potato French fries that were large meaty French fries. They were also awesome. We also ordered the crab claws. Which are shown- as a half order. These were unique, they pull the small claw from the crab and deep fried the meet. You pick it up from the claw and oh my! These were amazing! These are sold alone, but you can pay extra for any side you may want. The steaks were super reasonable and we heard they were super tender, juicy and again really good! Make sure if you're driving down 65 that you stop at the First Clanton Exit coming from the north. You won't be sorry!!
