The food here was spectacular.

I have always been a little wary of restaurants that have very limited menus. I always worry that I won't like anything they have and for me, each meal is an experience. But Southern National proved to me that oftentimes a limited menu means these dishes have been ABSOLUTELY PERFECTED. In the heart of downtown Mobile, this restaurant will challenge you to try things you thought you hated and teach you to fall in love with them. The menu does appear to have changed since we went which is disappointing for this review in the sense that you can't experience exactly what we did. We ordered the Smoked Wings as an appetizer. The flavor, tenderness, & overall taste made these some of the best wings I've ever sampled & believe me, I have sampled A LOT of wings over the years. For dinner, I ordered the pan-seared salmon & Brussel sprouts. Now, this is DEFINITELY out of character for me. I'm not a huge fish eater & I hate Brussel sprouts... or so I thought. I simply cannot put into words for you how delicious it was. My mouth is watering as we speak. My husband ordered the Shrimp & Grits with the gouda mac & cheese. He was a bit disappointed in the Shrimp & Grits simply because he wasn't a fan of the addition of BBQ sauce to his Shrimp & Grits. This was new to him & we both agreed that we would have skipped the BBQ sauce. The atmosphere is warm & inviting, & we were one of the few couples dining that evening. I HIGHLY recommend you check these guys out. You won't be disappointed.

The food here was spectacular. They serve familiar dishes, but done so well that you'll be talking about it all week. It also felt very cool to have a famous award winning chef just a few feet away expoing orders. The service was very efficient and friendly.

This place is horrible. Servers hate their job, the owners are arrogant and dishonest, debt mongers and the place was built on lies- It is a house of cards.Reggie and Duane are just normal everyday crooks stealing from anyone who can make their dream come true!Stay away, soon once they go to Atlanta to Georgia Avenue in Summerhill, they will screw that owner too until they move on to the next venue.

Chef Duane Nutter provides an experience for the palette that rivals some of the finest restaurants ive been to. He really has a gift for bringing unique foods and flavors together to intrigue and excite. The staff is attentive and quick with an attention for detail and a willingness to serve. Great experience all around at Southern National.

I have seen the Excellent presentations on my friends page and my husband worked in the Culinary field, we were very displeased with the Salmon dish 3oz salmon asparagus cut in half pinch of kale $28 per dish. I hope the pandemic is the problem and not the Chef.

My first visit last night . The pimento cheese with bacon jam and homemade crackers was a perfect appetizer . The salmon with kale and baby new potatoes etc was cooked to perfection. A great experience I want to have again soon!

Smoked wings, coffee rubbed pork tenderloin, pan seared salmon, double cheese burger, and j*** spiced iron flat steak All were fantastic. Good service. Modest, but nice atmosphere in a small building. The only criticism: service slowed way down to get dessert. After ordering them, it took over twenty minutes to get a slice of German chocolate cake and a SoNat cheesecake. Other than that, a very good dining experience.
