It's pretty good food. I wouldn't say it a "authentic," but it's good for what it is. Ok prices. Good wait staff. We'll definitely return.

This was our 2nd time dining here, and it did not dissappoint! We even had the same awesome server! My daughter was visiting, so we thought it would be a great place to dine with good scenery. Even though it rained we were by the window so there was still a nice view.. We I ordered Salmon, the others ordered Ribeye with seasonal veggies, lobster stuffed mushrooms ( they have pork in them so I couldn't partake, but they smelled amazing), and Tots made of grits, covered in cojita and sweet chili sauce..absolutely delish!

We love River. Great entrees, great brunch, fish, etc. But. Recently we went for wine and appetizers and ordered the red pepper hummus. We died laughing when we received LITERALLY 2 tablespoons of hummus in a bowl you would bring someone side of ketchup in. We were shocked.. I guess they ran out?? Will go back but. Needed to review

The mouth watering food you see here is no longer offered. The current menu is a tiny brunch menu, and that's it. We were pretty disappointed.

I love River.... I have been there at least 50 times ....to the point of a lot of the staff over the months knowing my face and order preferences so I feel slightly guilty even about posting this.The quality of food has been slipping over the past few visits. It was busy today but normal busy for river.... I ordered grit tots which were not tasty (I've had them twice at which point they were phenomenal ) and a steak flatbread that was burnt at the bottom, soggy on top and almost melted into the serving board. Mr. Manager/Owner needs to get back in here.... Haven't seen him in a while and things are slipping...

We started with the Gouda grit tots. They were delish. Really big portion. We order the hanger steak and the ribeye. Both were very good. The vegetables under the ribeye have a different flavor. Overall good experience.

Definitely try the tots grits, they are better than the description and a must try! Carlie was our waitress and she made the best suggestions. The seasonal trout was delicious ! Also try the specialty cocktails!

Wonderful food and the view is SO tranquil and relaxing. Carlie was our waitress and she was prompt and made great recommendations. Definitely try the grits otter tots~ they aren't waist you are expecting for the description, but even better!

The first night we came here we had a great experience the moment we stepped in. Hostess was nice and we were seated quickly on the patio. The waitress was friendly and talked through the happy hour menu. We ordered two appetizers (salmon "nachos" and the grits tots) both were great and so big that we didn't try to order entrees. We split a bottle of rose and enjoyed the evening outside. My friend's son is named River and she couldn't pass up getting a shirt with his (and the restaurant's name on it). We decided to take our long time friend who was in town here the next night. She grew up in Tuscaloosa but moved away for 20 years and recently moved to Birmingham. It was rainy so we decided to sit inside. The experience we had upon arrival the second night knocked the review a star. The hostess was really short with us when I asked approximately wait time after being added to the waitlist and seemed generally unhappy to be working. My friend wanted to see the shirts again so she could get one for herself. You would have thought she asked to have a tour of the kitchen. Finally someone could help her and the hostess tried to seat the group behind us because "we weren't all here" (my friend was trying on a shirt). The whole interaction was very odd and unprofessional for an establishment like River and really made me embarrassed that we had gone back. We were able to be seated and the manager on duty came over to explain the hostess was new. I get being new and inexperienced, but rude and short with guests who are excited to be back I don't accept. We got one appetizer between the three of us and each got entrees and cocktails. Except the fish being overly fried, it was good. Go back but know you can't predict what your initial experience will be like. Hopefully you get the nice hostess we had the first night!
