Among the best and most authentic Mexican restaurants in the city. I've been enjoying meals here for almost 20 years. Popular, and no reservations, so there cam be a wait to get seated, especially at peak dinner hours.

Excellent. Traveling often throughout the U.S. and Europe, we are foodies at heart, and Michelin rated restaurants are regular visits on our list. Of note, we also own a little dessert place. This restaurant would rate in one of our top 10 definitely, likely the top 5 experiences for both food and service. Unpretentious, but very well made food does not disappoint. Flavors, well done and unique, yet familiar. Fun and vibrant atmosphere meets the intent, and I feel transported while enjoying my meal. Our server was so friendly and welcoming. We are sad to know the chef's health has declined, and this great place will be closing at the end of May 2024. We are traveling back to Phoenix just to visit this gem in April. Go, while you have the chance. (But please let us in line.)

Loved the atmosphere of this place. Great location and real chill. Food was surprisingly good. You order from a self order kiosk type center, take a table number and they bring the food to you wherever you decide to eat. Was able to get some work done while enjoying a delicious sandwich!

It's so sad to see this iconic Phoenix restaurant close. I'm hoping to be back one more time before that happens.Kid-friendliness: They have highchairs.
This place was incredible. Was in town from Chicago and the chile en nogada is like nothing I have ever had in my life. I hope folks get a chance to check this place out before it closes on memorial day 2024. Thanks!

A culinary experience and I fell in love with their delicious Chile en Nogada. The best I have ever had - the chef here is truly a creative. A must if you're visiting the Phoenix area. Easy parking and excellent service. Thank you!
This is my very first yelp review. This was my fourth and last time dining in. 2:30 pm, on a Monday in early April, 2024. The place is packed, sitting on a bench, a couple were waiting for a table. I sat and waited, too. I noticed the regular mature lady Chef, with tattoos up and down both arms was not working in the cramped kitchen. I kept seeing the elderly waitress going back and forth into the kitchen, and coming out with her mouth full of food.Filet Mignon $49.00?! Guacamole $19.00?!Everything on the menu is overpriced. I had the Conchita Pibil $28 or $29, my dining companion had Nana Chili Verde Soup $28 or $29. We shared a quesadilla, and we asked for lemon water. The place is loud and I had to repeatedly asked the slim /petite, elderly waitress to repeat what she was saying. She was chewing on food. Everytime I saw her walk by, she had a mouthful of food. My meal arrived, the table was filled with plates and little dishes with the side dish of potato fingerlings and squash. My Conchinita Pibil was drowned in liquid smoke, possibly to cover the very sour pork. I wondered if it was old. The waitress never came to check and ask if the food was good. It wasn't. For a party of two, for dinner, NO COCKTAIL was $101.83. I rounded it up to $102.00. I left $117.00. I read in the paper Barrio Cafe will close next month, in May. All four times that I dined in were very disappointing, but this time, with the constantly munching waitress, you couldn't pay me to go back. I don't recommend going to Barrio Cafe.??

We were there when they first opened and now it is closing. Such an amazing chef and owner Silvana Salcido Esparza has health problems and has to close. This is a big loss for Phoenix.

My friend and I came in for cocktails. Wanted to stay for food, however it was an hour wait. Understandable. The Cadillac margarita and Bloody Mary were right on point. Hoping to get back again to taste what's on the menu!
