Ok so food was good, but it was average. It was not authentic Mexican, and was very americanized. Maybe I let all the great reviews set my expectations too high?Definitely pass on the chocolate cake.The El Pedregal Margarita was delicious though, I could have drank 5 of them and I had 3 LOL

This place has gone so far downhill that I will probably just go to Taco Bell next time I’m craving Mexican food. That is how bad it is.Service was slow and indifferent.They’ll charge you a service charge and a gratuity too.

They went out of their way to seat us outside but then forgot about us for a good 20 min. Once we finally got a waiter he did take very good care of us. Steak fajita was good, slightly spicy. Insufficient amounts of fresh toppings provided (tomatoes, guac, lettuce) so I needed to ration. Rice was very bland and dry. Refried beans had an odd taste and were undercooked (lacked a creamy texture with chewy beans). Overall it was overpriced and I was surprised to see beans and rice were ala cart with a $24 fajita. We were jet lagged and hungry. We ate. We left. It’s a spot of expensive convenience eating.

Good is great! Service slow because it’s tough to staff for conferences. And when food comes it’s by busy waiters dropping food off quick and they are tired! Hard workers but the wrong orders and mixups only cost them more work so could use some better management. Anejo neat was worth a star on its own.

Had a 10-person group including 4 children. The children's menus were fun. Drinks were great. Food was great. Server was great. We felt valued while we were there. Special requests to food orders were remembered and delivered. All-around great experience.

Very good and uniquely prepared Mexican food including the appetizers. The atmosphere is nice. It's always busy on the weekend. Be sure to make a reservation. And they make awesome margaritas.
Hoping the experience would be better. Food was fine and the margarita good. Nice atmosphere - always a turn off at a Mexican restaurant when the chips and salsa are extra.

Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone that finds themselves in the Phoenix area. The drive was beautiful, the restaurant was easy to find, and above all, the food was very tasty. If you love a spicy marg, you will love Spotted Donkey.

It was our first time. We were seated outside behind the door. Freezing cold. The heater didn’t work until minutes before we left. We sat watching others being served waiting for ours. The food was mediocre at best. The surf and turf burrito was full of water and soggy. Sad because the view is gorgeous. Price is not bad either.

The food here was absolutely delicious & we had outstanding service. We would have preferred an outside table, as we were celebrating my husband's birthday, but that would be the only change. I had a wonderful salad, and my husband's surf & turf burrito was one of the best we have had. The queso & chips were also very good. Our server was very attentive and friendly. Truly an enjoyable evening. We look forward to coming here again.

Very disappointed. Have eaten there years ago, but it is not the same. Had to pay for chips and salsa. We ordered fajitas and the corn tortillas were greasy and not much chicken in them.
