BoathouseWe were visiting a friend in New Westminster and we decided to take him out to dinner at the Boathouse which was just a short walk away along the boardwalk. The restaurant is open, spacious, and takes full advantage of its riverside location. We were seated at a window seat and enjoyed watching the tugs and barges sail by. Everyone ordered a drink and then perused the extensive menu. And while they focus on seafood there are many other selections offered. Our friend ordered the salmon and my wife opted for the Coconut Pacific Cod – (Thai green curry coconut sauce, and vegetables), while I found it hard to pass on the Mixed Seafood Grill (fresh grilled salmon, scallop + prawns skewer, crab stuffed prawns, with Pernod beurre blanc). Their wine-by-the-glass selection is adequate but small, so I ordered a bottle of Sancerre (a French sauvignon blanc from the Loire Valley). So, if you’re looking for something fun to do, head to New West on a sunny day, walk the board walk and soak up some sun, shop at the Quay and then drop into the Boathouse for some drinks and delicious seafood.

Celebrating partner’s birthday and staying next door at the Inn at the Quay. Made reservations and was super excited about our meal. The atmosphere was nice and our servers pleasant. Our food, however, was extremely disappointing. The lobster bisque had no lobster or seafood of any kind in it and tasted like tomato soup. There was only one kind of oyster available, which were very small and just okay. I had ordered an Old Fashioned—which was loaded with ice and served with a lemon? My partner ordered the lobster tails, which were very small and were served raw. I ordered the Dungenous crab, which was only a few legs that were so dried out the meat just flaked off, served on a bed of very dry rice. The crab dinner was 100$. We do not mind paying the cost of any of our meal choices, but i am appalled that they would even serve something like that, let alone charge for it!The manager came over and was very sorry and comped the dishes that were not edible. It was all handled well. But we didn’t want to be comped for a poor experience. We were there to celebrate and pay for a delicious meal.I highly recommend finding another place to eat. The quality control of their dishes is extremely lacking. The whole experience very disappointing. We did have a delicious meal at the Sandbar on Granville Island the next day!

Service was good, sat on the patio and it was nice out. The food was not great. I ordered a sesame chicken salad. It's coleslaw cabbage with a generic Asian style dressing, wonton strips and a handful of shredded chicken for 23 bucks. It was a plate of beige and it was so sad. I don't recommend this place. Go to The Hub instead, the food is better. Go to El Santo instead, the food is WAAAY better. Go to Georgie's instead, the food is cheaper and still better. If you want fish and chips, go to Cockney King's. Go literally anywhere but here.

Very disappointed. We brought my Aunt and cousin here for their Birthdays. The Boathouse was clearly understaffed as we had to wait way too long for our entree. When it finally did arrive we all agreed each meal we had was "underwelming and over cooked. This is extremely disappointing as we use to bring my 100 year old Grandmother here and we always enjoyed the ambience as well as the food. Looks like Boathouse needs to stop cutting corners and go back to the way they were. There is so much competition. If they keep going this way they will lose. They need to get inspired again. I really miss what the Boathouse use to mean to our families. Will not be returning until things change. New management and perhaps a whole new outlook?

I took my bridesmaids here for a nice dinner last night after picking up my wedding dress as a special treat. Our server seemed to be training another server which is no problem but the overall service was not good. The server forgot to punch in our appetizers I believe as it took over an hour for us to get some dynamite shrimp and truffle brussel sprouts which were good but should not take an hour plus in a quiet restaurant. Both of my bridesmaids LOVE clam chowder so they both ordered that for their main. It came out cold, extremely bland and one of theirs had a chunk of burnt material (looking like salmon skin) in it. Both of them sent it back and we were comped for the clam chowders however they have now both woken up with food poisoning from the 2-3 bites they took of the chowder (I did not order the chowder and am not sick today). I never write negative reviews but after spending $100+ on a nice meal for what was meant to be a special occasion for my bridesmaids and sending them home with food poisoning, this is not OK.

Came to The Boathouse after meeting a huge lineup and packed house at Angelina's. Eyed up Craft next door, but ultimately decided to go to The Boathouse after having good experiences at the Port Moody location. The restaurant was near empty, yet when the hostess went to seat us, every table in the section was dirty. Service was painfully slow, especially given how empty the restaurant was. Our sever was friendly, but didn't really seem to understand the concept of how to be a good, efficient server. Brought the menus and left before asking if there were any drinks she could start us with, would have been nice to have the immediate offer of coffee, tea, or water. She then took a considerably long time to come back to take a drink order. At that point we were ready to order everything. We both ordered eggs Benny. I asked for a modification to mine - shrimp and crab instead of back bacon. I said I was fine with an up charge. Server came back nearly five minutes later to say that it was going to be a $7 up charge and asked if that was okay. I again said yes, however realized after the fact that the $7 up charge put the price at the same as the Benny trio which included one of three different types of Bennie's. I found the server and asked if I could amend my order and that was no issue. Would have been nice if the server had of offered suggestions at the time of ordering, but it she was clear she was just in it for the bare minimum required. Coffee took a very long time to come out. Food arrived shortly there after. The portion sizes were shockingly small, everything from amount of sauce to potatoes, in fact the traditional Benny came on what seemed like a side plate. Despite ordering the trio Benny for myself (a larger portion), it came with a noticeably smaller portion of potatoes than the traditional Benny. Both dishes were extremely lacking in flavour. The hollandaise sauce had a very subtle buttery flavour but lacked anything else. The eggs were overcooked, but had rubbery exteriors which implied they had sat under the warmer for too long. The potatoes were really inconsistently cooked, some were still hard inside and some were mushy. Had to ask for hot sauce which came out as a bottle of Tabasco. Server was mostly no where to be seen for the entire dining experience and had to be flagged down for a coffee refill. Ordered a side of toast but received what could best be described as warm bread. Server finally came around when we were almost done our entire meals to ask if we wanted jelly or peanut butter for the bread. Finally refilled water when she brought the bill. The only thing going for this restaurant is the window seating has a nice view of the water. If you decide to try your luck on this location definitely take some good company with you because everything else is overpriced and underwhelming.

We hadn’t been here since the summer. We had come quite often between June and September. Since we hadn’t been here for a while we chose here for a family celebration tonight. It’s always so nice to come and enjoy a gorgeous view! Parties arrived over a 45 minute timeframe. Some waited a bit for the server to ask for the order. We were a little disappointed in timeframe of the food delivery after ordering and some of the meals were not as warm as they should be served…We seemed to always be looking for our server. The attention to the table lacked quite a bit. Once the food started to arrive the attention picked up. It’s not the service we have had previously….definitely needs some work!
