Came here to celebrate my birthday. Honestly the service was excellent and dining environment/plating was beautiful. But that’s pretty much it.Flavour and food were only mediocre for the price point. The most disappointing thing was they charged us $32 for water in addition to a $250 meal. Not only did they not inform us about the water price, I don’t think any water can justify $32(it was just regular water )Service was good. If you just want to try it out and don’t have high food standard and don’t mind paying $32 for water, $250 per person will get you a really pleasant dining experience but I wouldn’t personally come back or recommend to my friends and family.

What an incredible journey of exquisite flavours Chef Nutcha and her team brought us on. The detail of her craft and the story shared for each course added to our special evening. Each bite was an explosion of well-balanced flavours. Love that her menu is locally sourced and hand selected speciality items from around the world. Well deserving of a Michelin Star. Thank you

6 out of 5 stars!!After our first visit to Chef Nutcha’s Baan Lao earlier in July, we could not wait to go back and treat ourselves to celebrate one of our anniversaries with the new Signature Dinner Experience, “From The Fields of Thailand to The Shores of Canada”. Chef Nutcha’s tasting menus offer the epitome of fine Thai cuisine through a truly one-of-a-kind gastronomic experience. Baan Lao’s beautiful and spacious room has high ceilings, “sea urchin” architectural chandeliers, and walls adorned with original paintings by Suda the elephant. The friendly first-class service is delivered with impeccable, classic, French-style white-glove attention to every detail. The food itself is prepared with a level of culinary artistry that obviously comes from much planning and preparation. The tea and wine pairings are musts as they perfectly compliment the dishes along the wonderful journey through Chef Nutcha’s exquisite creativity and imagination. Chef’s deconstructed presentations for some of the dishes is incredibly brilliant. The food sourcing is impressively thoughtful, and the quality shines through every dish. This is food as art and art as food. All of this is nestled in quaint Steveston on the waterfront with picturesque views of where the Fraser River meets the Pacific Ocean, the Steveston Harbour Boardwalk, the occasional tall ship and – of course – the sunset. Intimate romantic ambience factor A++.We cannot wait for the next tasting menu to come out so we can treat ourselves again!!We cannot say enough about Chef Nutcha and Baan Lao. It is the best Thai food we have ever had by orders of magnitude. One can easily see why this is one of Canada’s top 100 restaurants. When Michelin starts giving out stars in the Lower Mainland, it should start here . . .

My experience at Baan Lao was deeply profound.I have never experienced fine dining, but I can say this is a memory I will cherish.Chef Nutcha opens her world to you and takes you on a journey. She taught me about simplicity, stillness and true appreciation for food. You are treated like royalty, with everything having meaningful purpose, from the food to the cutlery and small lamp that sat on my table. This experience is for everyone and anyone, and Chef Nutcha’s entire team welcomes you with open arms and respect. Many delicious dishes and flavours I've never experienced in my life, however my favourite was the Smoked Ice Cream - it made me emotional as the candle smoked ice cream and coconut flavour took me home in my heart - the crumb underneath was simply delicious.I left fulfilled and content and cannot wait to share my experience with my friends and family.

? THE MOST BEAUTIFUL EXPERIENCE ?We celebrated Valentine’s Day this year @baanlaosteveston and it was the perfect restaurant for the occasion. This romantic and whimsical restaurant nestled on the edge of Steveston Village is a true gem. Everything from the decor, service, and food was awe inspiring. The live plants and warm lighting in the restaurant creates such a calm and intimate atmosphere. Baan Lao’s walls are also famously adorned with original paintings done by Suda the Elephant. These paintings were quite spectacular to see in real life. Our experience at Baan Lao was made extra special by the spectacular service from the front of house team. We were greeted immediately the minute we stepped through the doors, they offered to take our coats, and then we were led to our table by the window. Our servers rotated throughout the meal, but each one made sure to describe the inspiration, ingredients, and techniques used to create each dish. The star of the show though, was definitely the food. Every course was plated like a delicate piece of art. And the focus on quality sourced ingredients was really spotlighted as each dish was served. Knowing the story behind each dish also helped us to appreciate and savour each bite more. After dining at Baan Lao, I can definitely see why Chef Nutcha and her restaurant has received so many accolades. This was a truly special experience that will be remembered for many weeks.I will have to mention though, the portions are very small—even for a fine dining restaurant. We were definitely not hungry after our meal, but we were also not full. And considering the price point, it was a bit of a surprise. However, overall I can understand why the price point is so high considering the quality of food and service. Just do keep in mind that the portions will not be the biggest. It’s not a dealbreaker for me, but it may be a dealbreaker for some.Looking forward to dining at Baan Lao again in the future.⭐️10/10??‍♀️10/10?$$$$$ (aprox. $200-$500/person depending on menu)?Baan Lao Fine Thai Cuisine | 4100 Bayview St, Richmond

A better dining experience would be hard to find in Vancouver. It was an absolute experience of a lifetime. From start to finish, each course stunned the taste buds. At the end of the evening, I could still taste the flavours of each course. Is it worth the cost? Absolutely no doubt. Go and experience it all yourself.

The restaurant offers sophisticated Thai cuisine with evident care and creativity, though it didn't leave a lasting impression on me. While the pad Thai and curry were highlights, the overall experience didn't compel me to make a special trip, given its distant location in Stevenson. It's a place to try once, appreciated for its attentive service and a friendly chef who personally greeted us.

A top notch place, that has everything great in it, a little pricey at first but when you eat the food and listen to the servers explaining how hard each meal is to make, you feel like it's not that expensive! Would definitely recommend here especially for couples and special occasions, attention to detail is really high!Ps. Just check out their washrooms too! A surprise is waiting you there!

Last weekend's dining experience at Baan Lao was remarkable, with the Coconut Galangal Soup paired with Crispy Wild Sockeye Salmon emerging as the highlight. This soup dazzled with its colorful tuile and a delicate coconut milk broth, zestfully enriched with galangal for an exceptional flavor profile. The addition of crispy salmon provided an enjoyable textural contrast, and the tuile crumble further refined the dish, ensuring a memorable culinary event. The careful preparation of the salmon, which includes steaming with lemongrass and lime, followed by frying to achieve a crispy texture on the outside while remaining tender and flaky inside. The entire dish was nothing short of extraordinary.

From the moment I stepped into the restaurant, I was greeted by an ambiance that effortlessly blended comfort with a touch of elegance, setting the stage for what was to be a delightful dining experience. The service staff were attentive and welcoming, contributing to an overall great atmosphere that made the meal even more enjoyable. The highlight, undoubtedly, was the food. Each dish was a testament to the chef's skill, presenting a harmonious balance of flavors that danced on the palate. The ingredients tasted fresh, and the presentation was both thoughtful and appealing, enhancing the overall culinary experience. However, there was a minor setback that slightly marred the otherwise splendid experience. Suffering from a sore throat, I ordered a tea, priced at $13. To my surprise, I was served just a single cup without a teapot, which I found a bit unusual for the price. Expecting a more traditional tea service, this was a bit of a letdown. Further, when I requested additional hot water, I was taken aback to learn that there would be a $5 charge for it. I declined, feeling that this was an unreasonable request, especially considering the initial cost of the tea.Despite this hiccup, the rest of the dining experience was thoroughly enjoyable. The quality of the food and the pleasantness of the environment largely compensated for the tea service's shortcomings. While I left with mixed feelings about the beverage aspect, the culinary delights and the warm service ensured that my overall impression remained positive.

Friendly staff, eye appealing food but highly overrated and over priced for no reason, by charging $25 for a bottle of carbonated water or $32 for filtered water or simply charging $32 for a mocktail doesn't make you become a Michelin want to be restaurant. My colleague invited us there to celebrate a special occasion but it was very average.
