This restaurant has a really pretty exterior and interior. I recommend coming early as there is always a long line. Ordered the Chinese sauerkraut fish along with the noodles. Thought it was pretty decent, it started getting spicier towards the end.

I've always enjoyed the 'Tai Er' pickled sour fish dish and its boneless chicken feet. The fish is fresh, the pickled vegetables taste great, the price is reasonable, the service is good, and the atmosphere is youthful.

Do not order takeout here. The portions are half the size of those for dine-in. We dined in and were able to feed 3 people with the portion we ordered, which cost $48 and was considered small. However, when we opted for takeout, the same $48 could barely feed about 1.5 person. They also charge $3 for a bowl of plain rice. I’ve never heard of any place that charges $2 for a small bowl of rice. If you enjoy this dish, try the store in Crystal Mall called “Fish with You.” They offer great portions, and allows you to add other vegetables and toppings. Best of all, FOC free flow rice and it’s less than half the price of this place.

The first time I had Tai Er was in Vancouver. When we sat down, everyone was served a cup of hot tangerine peel and roselle tea. The pickled fish soup base is very authentic and has all the ingredients. It is just right spicy, numbing and sour, and the soup is thicker (much better than x Blue Whale). I believe the soup base is probably sent directly from China. It is difficult for local chefs to make it like this. Level, only fish is not the same thing. There is a kind called (tilapia). It seems that the only choice for eating pickled fish in Vancouver is tilapia. The fish should be fresh, but the fish meat is a little loose. The fishy smell is very strong, but Taier’s pickled cabbage soup is so good that it covers up the lack of fish. The fried dough sticks are a must-order to soak up the soup and are very delicious. Order the plain noodles to soak up the soup and get another mouthful. The atmosphere in the store is also good, and the service attitude of the waiters is also very good. They are all young people.

Excellent service and beautiful restaurant. Just terrible food.1. Pork was swine-y tasting2. Fish was not fresh borderline fowl3. EVERYTHING had a lot of MSG...This restaurant was highly recommended by a friend, but looks like the food has gone severely downhill....

If you’ve never had Sauerkraut fish Chinese style, then you’ll be in for a surprise that make your tastebuds tingle and the saliva in your mouth drool down your chin. It’s different from Boiling fish or Szechuan hotpot’s. It’s spicy but not too spicy, but the numbing sensations are still there you might be accustomed to if you like this style of cuisine. I’ve been here twice and both times it was equally sweat inducing and satisfying. You order up the sauerkraut fish according to how many people you have at your table and add some extra ingredients to add to the pot. It’s cooked together and served hot with energetic staff shouting out your service. It’s all good. I just wish they still had their cucumbers but the other sides we’ve ordered were still good. Big Two is now more than just a card game we played in college. It’s a dining experience now!

Good quality as always

It’s been a while since my last visit to Tai Er, and though some things have changed, my love for their Suancai Yu (sour cabbage fish) remains unwavering. The dish is not spicy but incredibly flavorful, offering a perfect blend of tanginess and savory notes. Paired with rice, it’s an absolute delight. Tai Er continues to impress with its consistent quality and taste. Highly recommend for an exceptional dining experience!

They specialize in sauerkraut tilapia fish. The fish was boneless and fresh with a bit of spice and sourness. It is a must try with a bowl of rice or noodles.
