I have been coming here since I was a kid. But the last time I went I noticed the food has gone down hill. There is literally no flavor in the battered fish, not even salt and pepper. The serving size has changed and the burger wasn't even worth the almost $20 I paid for it. The shrimp bucket is like 15 pieces of the smallest shrimp you have seen. To be honest The Finest At Sea across the street is much better. I personally don't think I will go back. I think it's time Barbs had an over haul, this place is where tourist come and eat and I bet they go back home with horrible reviews.

It is a good place to eat traditional fish and chips, I personally recommend the salmon burger and the clam chowder.The place is super nice since it is in Fisherman's Wharf where there are floating houses and it is a kind of floating neighborhood.You definitely have to come if you are visiting the city.The service is very good and friendly.

With all the hype about Barb's we decided it was time to give it a try. Long lines and prices had put us off in the past but we got there early so the line was not too bad. Unfortunately the food was pretty pathetic and not worth the wait or the price.To begin we ordered two oysters, one grilled and one fried. Both came fried. They were oily and pretty tasteless and I would not order them again. We then tried the 2 pc Halibut with fries. Again, oily and tasteless. Had an argument with the server staff about giving me an additional small cup of coleslaw as an exchange for not receiving the oysters as ordered. How cheap can you get.Won't be going back as there are many other fish and chips places and Barb's is WAY overhyped.

We found out they lost our order and wouldn't even engage with us until we proved we had an order with them... We had a buzzer from them when we paid for the food. 0/5 star service

The fried fish was very bland and mediocre. It's definitely not worth the 4.4 stars, people giving such a high rating are probably eating cardboard, so this is a step up. I think they need to improve their batter recipe and use some salt, seasonings and maybe even a beer to improve the crispness of the fried fish.
I ordered fries only, no fish. I was expecting fries made out of fresh potatoes, traditional when ordering 'fish n chips'--afterall, I was in Victoria and on the wharf--but how disappointing to be served frozen fries! An extra star as the portion size was decent.
