Googled Japanese curry Victoria and this is the first place that popped up.I was not impressed with my lunch. The coating was falling off the pork and the curry didn't taste any different from the cubes you buy and make at home. Not sure if they were having an off day in the kitchen or what. Will not be going back here.

Checked out Sakura Japanese Cuisine Sushi Bar & Grocery to grab some sushi grade salmon and other Japanese items.Decent selection of tea, sauces, rice, noodles, snacks, etc. Didn’t try any of their food items but the “to go” selection had bentos, katsu, tempura, kara’age and sushi rolls.Bought ~1/2 pound of frozen sushi grade salmon ($29.85/lb), a bag of sushi rice and a spicy tuna musubi ($4.00).Reminds me of a mini version of Fujiya Foods.

I love their sushi and other hot meals. However the last time I went there we ordered food for dine in at their outdoor table. I requested one of the ladies if they could reheat the cold meals that were on display since we were supposed to eat it there and she said it’s not possible. Seriously, why isn’t it allowed?? So we ended up eating the very cold takoyaki and other dish on display. I never came back after this, very disappointed.Additional comment: with all due respect, but we also ordered hot meals and ate it on the outdoor table of your restaurant. So are you saying that even if we order hot meals we cannot have the additional grab and go food reheated in your microwave? How is that helping your customer, half the order is hot and half the order isn’t allowed to be reheated because it’s to go? If we knew about this in the first place we wouldn’t have ordered any to go with the hot meals.I was a fan of your restaurant since we ate here multiple times, it wasn’t the first time. But to tell your customer to go eat somewhere else because reheating is a big deal shows the value you place on your once loyal customers. :( again we won’t mind if there’s a sign saying this.P.s.It might help to place a sign on the cold section that the food here cannot be reheated EVEN if customer orders hot meals, in that way it avoids confusion.

Great place for high quality sushi. Sadly you can't dine in and the place really is a grocery store which is fine.

T’was a most stunning Saturday afternoon. I mix a few litres of fuel in my 2006 Yamaha Zuma and point it south down Quadra in search of the elusive Sakura. Upon entering this fine establishment I was greeted by the friendliest of cashiers, who promptly handed me a menu and gave me time to carefully consider my order. Among several worthy candidates I settled on the Katsu Kare, and was treated to a generous portion of authentic and flavour packed curry. The three distinct components of this dish were all individually cooked to perfection and combined to create a symphony of flavours that inspired visions of Mt. Fuji on a crisp May afternoon. I left with a full stomach and a full heart, as well as a reusable bag of affordable groceries from the land of the rising sun. Wishing eternal success and prosperity for Sakura for generations to come.

I moved to Victoria last year for school and everything was completely new to me. I had spent the previous four years in Vancouver, a city where I was familiar and comfortable. At first, Victoria felt like a "desert" to me. I was lonely and sad, and I constantly went back to Vancouver every weekend. Every time I had to come back to Victoria, I was blue. But one day, I discovered a cute Japanese restaurant and grocery called Sakura near my place. I decided to check it out, and I had the best Katsu I've ever tasted in Victoria. From then on, I ordered Katsu from Sakura almost every week. It was so delicious that I became genuinely addicted to it. Whenever I had to come back to Victoria, I felt happier than before because I knew that I would have Sakura's Katsu to look forward to.Sakura was more than just a restaurant, it helped me adjust to life in Victoria. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, the decor was beautifully decorated with traditional Japanese paintings. The staff was always patient and helpful and the owner was super nice too. The Katsu was made with the freshest ingredients and everything just taste amazing.I just graduated last month and this will be the last month I spent in Victoria. I just want to say that Sakura is an amazing place that brings people joy. Everyone should try their food. It's a perfect place to have a casual dinner with friends, family or even a date. I hope for the best for Sakura, and I will definitely miss it when I leave Victoria.
