Food is totally not fresh. Ice cendol is very hard and rubbery, either put in the fridge for long time or from many days ago. Fried chicken is very dry and hard to chewy, probably from yesterday and re-fried. Will not come back again.

The homemade cooking is out of this world. Love all the spices they put in each dishes. Make you want to eat more. The husband and wife are such nice people. Definitely a good spot to try out and I guarantee you will love it.

Frequented by high level government officials from Indonesia on visits to the States, when you step through the doors you are whisked to what it feels like back in the homeland. They are not yet open for indoor dining and nowhere outside to eat either so be prepared for takeout. The chicken satay is great (tender, juicy, and flavorful), the beef coconut soup is savory, and the avocado shake is delightful. However, the fried rice and fried chicken while extremely plentiful were both on the dry side and lacked flavor. Would also suggest calling in order as I placed an order in person and was supposed to take 20 minutes but ended up taking almost 60 minutes. They also only take cash or Venmo. The owner is a very nice and polite individual and for that alone will return to try this place again as it's worthy of trying for those willing to try new food and experiences.

We were in the area running errands, and decided to have a quick old fashioned food search by walking the streets. That was when we found Wong Java House in Alhambra. The owner Muhammad was very proud of his Indonesian cooking and suggested we ordered the whole menu. After some real talk, we settled for ayam penyet (chicken pressed then fried), mie goreng with beef, chicken and shrimp (pan fried noodles), and tempeh mendoan (deep fried dough). Since it was made to order, it did take some time for the food to be ready with our take out. It was about 25 min for us, so call ahead might be a good idea (but you wouldn't be able to shoot the s*** with Muhammad). Glad to report, we loved everything we got, especially the fried dough. The flavors were unique and hard to describe, but good kind of unique. Muhammad even gave us extra spicy sauce to try and that sauce was seriously good with anything and everything. Overall, we enjoyed the chatting and excited about finding new flavors for our palates. Muhammad was eager for us to try his fish dish and we can't wait to go back.

Delicious Indonesian comfort food. The owner (I presume) was so nice and helpful since it was my first time here. I got the hearty oxtail soup and Gado Gado salad. Both were delicious and flavorful.

I love this place. The couple who run it are really nice, and their food is flavorful and fresh. The prices are nice too. My favorites are the Ayam penyet (best fried chicken I've had in north america) and indonesian fried rice, but I've tried almost everything on the menu and nothing is less than excellent. I haven't had indonesian food this good outside southeast asia.

We ordered a bungkus (rice wrapped in banana leaf with several accompaniments) somewhere else and decided at the last minute that we needed more "protein" lol. We ended up ordering their fried fish (market price and depends on availability - we got the pompano and it was cooked well, crispy on the outside, soft and steaming inside and it came with a few sauces and a side salad that was so good!!), THE BEEF RENDANG WAS BOMB, there's really no other explanation, it was a flavor explosion and beef was so tender, will def go back for more of this. And the ayam penet was the most authentic we have tried in a long time. The owner was there and was such a sweet, sweet soul. He mentioned that the pandemic has hit them hard and they need all the help they can get so for everyone out there who wants a taste of authentic Indo food or just want homey good food then I urge you to try Wong Java out. You won't regret it!

| Rating: 4.9/5 | * Parking: Not bad, has room time in and time out. If you go during non-rush hours you should be fine. Store is quite hard to find because of small sign. But you'll be fine hopefully! * Restaurant: Atmosphere is nice. Calm textures with cleaned area. Room for a family gathering, great for a date! The employees, the family we met who runs the restaurant, is quite helpful and sweet. They explain the items as much as they can. Their efforts of speaking English and being communicative is very nice. You can see part of the kitchen from dining area. Family friendly environment. * Food: Warning: It'll take time to make it, quite the time but quality is served. Food is excellent! Made me fall in love with Malaysian/Indonesian cuisine. It being Halal is such a blessing. Very interesting flavors, close to South Asian and Thai. Their Beef Rendang & whole fried chicken was very good. Love their curries and use of spices. I love spicy and spiced foods, perfect fit. The passion and love from the family to provide you authentic cuisine shows when the food is ready. It takes time for them to make it, but it's because of how much quality they try to provide, which is admirable. Hope the quality is maintained throughout their business venture! * Price: Medium to high cost. It matches the costs with their quality and efforts. I personally eat quite hefty, so if you aren't a large eater the quantity should be just fine! Great for dining with family of 3-4. They'll explain even how many one can eat, truth being told. Prices are jumpy, just know what you'll order so it won't be wasted. | For more Halal restaurant reviews check out my account, hope it helps your adventure for your taste buds :) |

I've been coming to SG area once every two weeks for several years, and it's such a shame that I just found out about this hidden gem! Being a Zabiha eater can be hard when you want authentic food! I tried Wong Java house today, and I couldn't be happier! The food was exceptional and the owners won me over! InshAllah this won't be my last time here!

Wong Java House is legit. The food is delicious and authentic. The martabak telur is a standout and the nasi kuning is excellent. Make sure to call ahead, as most of the food is cooked to order, and it's easier on everyone to give some notice, especially for larger parties. Selamat makan!

Great food! Good price! Whenever I come here, they will always offer me something as a freebie. They're so nice and food always taste like home! Come and try authentic Indonesian food. Supporting local business during these times is a trend!

This food was amazing!!! We got the fried rice, fried chicken, and the watercress. Soooo freaken good even for takeout and as leftovers. The food is flavorful, garlicky, spicy, in so many different layers and ways its magical. This is a must try place. The people there are so genuinely nice considerate human beings. I cant wait to go back for dine-in whenever the 'rona goes away. My one complaint is that they "proudly serve alkaline water." They make their tea with it which ruins the tea and makes it literally and figuratively basic... So unless you actually like that weird battery taste in your beverage skip the water, tea, and ice. Call ahead for speedy order pick up. Say please and thank you and tip well.

Consistently tasty food. Friendly service. Very good about covid precautions. Highly recommended.

People talk about Borneo Kalimantan vs Simpang Asia as the places to go for authentic Indonesian food, but this place is every bit as good as those two, and in some dishes, Wong surpasses them. I had the nasi goreng w/ shrimp (amazing that shrimp is only +$1 on top of the default chicken/beef) along with ayam penyet and they were both delicious. Portion sizes were A+. If I had known those two dishes were so good I probably would've gotten the belacan kangkung just to round out the meal. I honestly felt bad I didn't buy more food during my takeout cause it's niche restaurants like this that are hurting the most during lockdown. I hope this place survives!
