Since none of my daughters like corned beef, this is my best option to get the food I enjoy on St. Patty's Day. It is that time of year again, where Nabih Haddad, the owner and chef extraordinaire, prepares corned beef and cabbage. It is the most delicious dish I have ever had. The meat is always so tender. I am taking an order to a friend who cannot drive. She loves his cooking!

Old town Auburn, CA is one of the typical Sierra Nevada foothill "Gold-Rush-era" downtowns, as it's located in a steep, narrow canyon, which makes for a very picturesque setting. If you're interested in exploring antiques, boutiques and just about anything unique, old town Auburn will keep you going for a long time. Shopping is hungry work, but there are no worries, as Edelweiss Restaurant 2 is located in Gold Rush Plaza, in historic old town Auburn. The first Saturday of the month is "Prime Rib Saturday" as prime rib is offered as a main entree for breakfast. If any beef is leftover, it's offered for lunch, but it's usually sold out by late morning. I arrived at the 07:00 morning opening time to a lightly filled dining room. The dining is quite cozy and rustic, in keeping with the character and charm of Old Town Auburn. The large picture windows look out to Washington St. and Auburn Alehouse across the street. Most of the diners that enjoy "Prime Rib Saturday" are locals and regular diners at this fine restaurant. Today, it was prime rib, eggs, hash browns and a side of biscuit gravy with horseradish for dipping. I asked for a second cup, and it was gladly provided. This breakfast is simply amazing! At Edelweiss 2, the first Saturday of the month is "Prime Rib Saturday," and the restaurant offers prime rib, served with eggs for breakfast, and they usually post the occasion on social media in advance. Prime rib is on the printed menu, and the website, and the price is listed as "market value." My breakfast included a generous cut of prime rib beef, perfectly cooked to medium, exactly as I ordered. The cut of meat was very generous and I'm guessing about 6 ounces or so, which made for a filling main dish. The beef was juicy, flavorful and perfectly grilled, and it was "fork tender." I really didn't need the knife to cut the meat, as it was super moist, juicy and tender. The cups of horseradish sauce made for perfect dipping... The large slab of hash brown potatoes were grilled to a perfect crispy, golden brown on the outside, yet tender and juicy on the inside. Unlike other hash browns, my potatoes today were not greasy or salty at all... simply hash brown potatoes cooked to perfection. The talented chef at Edelweiss 2 knows how to create prefect hash brown potatoes! When it comes to breakfast, I'm pretty basic, so I ordered my eggs fried sunnyside up, which go well whit hash brown potatoes. The eggs were perfectly fried, and made for a delicious topping to the hash browns, along with a piece of prime rib, dipped in horseradish sauce. Oh my... I decided to forgo my usual side of gravy and simply order biscuit and gravy, for a couple dollars extra. Thick rich sausage gravy - with lots of chunks of sausage - covered the fresh biscuit, with enough extra to dip some of the hash browns into. The biscuit was freshly baked, soft, tender but slightly crunchy on the outside, and made for a wonderful side to my breakfast. Since I was driving today, I wisely elected to pass on my usual beer and instead enjoy a glass of ice water. The good news is that I saved $5.00 and negated any worries during the drive home. The only disadvantage to this fine breakfast is it's priced at "market value," which changes every month. The prime rib cut of beef isn't cheap, so bring your wallet! Despite the high price, it's simply delicious and worth every penny. So far, this is the best breakfast that I've had the pleasure to enjoy, while dining in the Gold Country. Where in the world could you find a better breakfast? Prime rib and eggs, served at Edelweiss 2 is the kind of breakfast that makes you want to wake up, rise and shine, and simply SMILE! The food is simply delicious, and as an added touch, the super friendly staff and the rustic dining in old town Auburn add to the dining pleasure... along with the ambiance. Another 5-star dining adventure at Edelweiss Restaurant 2, located in Auburn, CA.

WHERE DO ALL THE LOCALS GO? Well, they dine at Edelweiss Restaurant 2 located in Old Town Auburn. Great little local joint where everyone knows your name! (note- Edelweiss Restaurant 1 is located in downtown Auburn and is managed separate of each other) This was my first visit to OId Town Auburn and Edelweiss Restaurant 2 and IMHO stood out above the other eateries. 46 omelet varieties? Sheesh! and the size of each omelet is 4 eggs!! 4 Eggs.... You'd think Paul Bunyan lived there. But they do offer 1/2 orders if your "Paul Bunyan" appetite can't have the full size 4 egg omelet. Now then, I'm from Hawaii (where "Loco Moco" was born) and Edelweiss Restaurant 2 had a Loco Moco on the menu. My travel partner ordered it so I had an opportunity to taste it. It was pretty darned good with a brown mushroom gravy over a LARGE bed of rice. If I'm ever passing through Auburn (which I do at least twice a year) I will stop in old town Auburn to try other items on Edelweiss Restaurant 2's menu. oh- one more thing= it's priced right.

We don't eat out much anymore because it's so expensive and more often than not the meal is a major disappointment for what we spent. That was not the case with our breakfast at old town Eidelweiss. The meal was perfect; a massive plate of cooked to perfection hash browns and bursting at the seams 4-egg omelet. Had to take half of it home it was so much delicious food. No skimping here on the fillings. And after reviewing menu prices for other breakfast places Eidelweiss wins the prize for affordability. Have eaten at both locations - service is always on pointe both spots and the ambiance of old town location is the best. Highly recommend
