This place is a hidden gem in Azusa. I was craving chilaquiles but none of the local Mexican restaurants have good chilaquiles in my opinion. I searched chilaquiles near me on Yelp and this place came up on top. Not only did the red chilaquiles exceed my expectations but the rice and beans were so flavorful with just a perfect amount of seasoning. I ordered a side of handmade corn tortillas and spread beans on a hot straight from the comal corn tortilla with a few drops of their chili oil, which they make there on-site. The other thing that I really enjoyed was their agua de jamaica or hibiscus water. I was worried that it would be too sweet since I'm diabetic but no, it was lightly sweetened and made with the dry hibiscus flowers, not some powder. I love it when I find simple mom and pop establishments like this one. The husband and wife team are so sweet and very attentive to every person that comes in. I appreciated the ambiance because it kind of reminded me of being in Mexico with family enjoying good food, and it had me feeling nostalgic. 100% highly recommend this place and looking forward to the next dining experience here!

Excellent! We had: - Cafe de Olla. Very delicious and they were very geberous with refills. - chilequeles (rojo): OMG. Their salsa rojo is amazing and they use their homemade tortillas. The rice and beans are awesome and even the cotija was so flavorful! They make everything from scratch and the owners are super sweet. - Birria. Res (delicious) and chivo (amazing). Comes with rice and beans and homemade tortillas. The rojo and verde salsas.are both delicious and they also gave us some extra hot sauce (very spicy and delicious) and some sweet and spicy mole to try (amazing). - Chicken burrito. My MIL loved it. Easy parking, very clean and comfortable. The owners were cooking and serving and were fantastic hosts. We'll be back when in the area!

Ahhhh, finally a place where you get the family hospitality and good food. The food taste homemade, you know that taste where you know you when your mom or grandmother make the food. Meaning it is fresh and tasty while sometimes lacking a little salt or too salty...... In any event, I had the birria de chivo (goat birria)...it was good. If you ever had goat meat, this was not very gamy but you could tell it was not beef but rather goat, which is perfect. It was served with the usual items of onions, cilantro, lime, handmade tortillas. The service was great, it is family owned, the lady that cooks came out and talked to us asking about how we liked the food and other things. Pleasant conversation and good food. We were however a little disappointed as we wanted a bowl of menudo but they had run out, meaning it ias more than likely good and anxiously waiting to see when we will come back to actually try some. I would recommend this place, just be sure to check the hours as they close shortly after the lunch rush, 2 or 3pm. I also like that they have a small menu meaning they specialize in a few dishes and make them well.

Tierra caliente was mine and my wife's first time here. It's a mom and pop shop we're the food reminds you of your moms homemade cooking. Prices were super reasonable and the environment was decent. Service they were attentive even the cook came out to check on us ! We both got chilaquiles one red and one green. In my opinion they are known and should be known for their homemade chili I'm not sure how they made it but just a few drops had us sweating the cook mentioned how it was double cooked in extra citi gin olive oil to protect the stomach that's how hot the chili was! Overall thank you we'll be back !

I ordered the pollo asada plate and it came with rice, refried beans, tortilla, and choice of red or green salsa. Like everyone else said, the food is made to order so there is definitely a bit of wait time but totally worth it. The chicken is cooked with onions and jalapenos. It's so tender and the spices are seeped into the meat. The corn tortilla and rice here hits different and is probably one of the best ones I've ever had. The corn tortilla is made fresh but doesn't taste dry or mealy like some other places and the corn flavor compliments everything. The rice tastes so good by itself but also goes well with the other components of the order. Definitely recommend if you want to eat something delicious and comforting. The staff here is very friendly.

I woke up craving chilaquiles today and knew I had to try them from here. Their other items, like asada tacos, handmade tortillas, mole, and birria de res are delicious as well. The owner makes the food fresh. Her food tastes like my mom's. They're both from Guerrero. The chilaquiles were delicious, topped with crema and freshly grated cotija. The sauce was smoky and made of Chile Guajillo. The eggs were seasoned well and cooked perfectly. I like them over medium. The beans also had freshly grated cotija cheese. The rice had carrots and corn. I also asked for spicy salsa on the side. It had a nice kick to it. I will be back. I need to try her pozole next!

Modest little restaurant w/ good size parking lot. Sweet service done by an older woman who was also the cocinera! The menu has all the classics, including mole & birria, which are delicious traditional recipes with generous spices and flavor. I tried the mole chicken enchiladas- couldn't even take the pic before cuz they looked so good & I dove right in. Delicious! Not overpowering in any one flavor, perfect temperature with tender meat. We also ordered the chilaquiles verde- generous portion, also well seasoned and warm! If you want some AUTHENTIC Mexican food, this is the place.

Time to time I get this urge of eating burrito out of the blue. Yesterday was one of those days that I just had to eat a burrito. So I searched on Google and pick this place just purely out of price. It was a little over $8. It took a little more time than usual but it worth every penny. The place is not so fancy but the taste made think to come back to this place whenever I have an urge for a burrito.

My boyfriend and I came here today for the first time . We originally planned to eat at El Matador but it was too busy so we opened Yelp and found Tierra Caliente so we went to give it a try. We are soooo glad we did ! This place was amazing ! The service is so friendly and informative and the food is delicious. I had the chicken enchiladas and my boyfriend had the chorizo con huevos. Everything there is made from scratch and you can definitely taste the quality . We will definitely be back soon.

I went here about a week ago for their sopes and will definitely be back! Everything tasted so fresh. The chef herself came out to apologize for the wait on food, she was so sweet and you can tell she makes everything with love. I would gladly wait for the food, even the beans are made fresh and not canned.

Tierra Caliente is a hidden gem in Azusa I have just discovered. It's location is easy to miss but is 100% worth finding. Was in the mood for some sopes and quesadillas and Tierra did not disappoint. Prices are very very friendly, they could honestly charge more for their food and I would still purchase it. Growing up latino, you know what good mexican food taste like...and this is it. Everything is 100% freshly made with fresh ingredients and it shows. I will be telling my friends and family all about this place and I will surely be back for another meal! Thank you !
