Yes, I said it! They make the best fried chicken!! I've tried the famous fried chicken from Roscoes in the L.A. area, and they are not as delicious as the ones that J's Place makes. Aside from that, though, they make other yummy entrees. Go there and find out for yourself!

Great food and service. You don't find many restaurants serving this kind of food in California. I had fried catfish with red beans and rice and it was delicious. My spouse had the meatloaf and it was excellent also (and I am not a big meatloaf fan). Service was excellent and the staff was friendly. One really cool thing is koolaid is a drink option on the menu (grape or cherry).We will definitely go back.

This place is very inconsistent. My first visit to this restaurant was great, I had fried chicken and waffles, Yum Yum. The second two times I went to this restaurant the fried chicken was chewy and whatever grease they used to fry the chicken in probably need to be changed because it had a less than pleasant taste. This is a restaurant that I would go to if I was with a group of people and they all wanted to go, I'll be a team player and go along. As a choice for me to go eat or a place to take my family this would not be the place for us,me.

Their catfish is so good. Their breading is seasoned perfect and it wss cooked to perfection. Their green beans are good but their fried cabbage and their okra is to die for. The peach cobbler, banana cookie pudding, and the bread pudding with rum sauce tastes homemade and is always fresh and yummy! I can't wait until they reopen.

What can't be said about the Soul Food place of Bakersfield. Real southern cooking just like mom's. Now if they would only do grilled cornbread it might be heaven on a dish!!
