Had dinner with the family, and after leaving a cash tip at the table I kindly asked the owner at the register to remove the automatic 18% tip they add to bill, since I would be paying debit. This man had the audacity to say "only this time, next time I won't don't it." This is extra but food was cold, also the portions are small(4 small pcs of chicken to be exact)after waiting 1 hour and a half. Wish I would of taken a picture. Needless to say I'll never take my family back again...

It was my first time here at Tokyo garden and honestly was disappointed. Came here for a friends birthday on Saturday and our waitress which I did not get her name, but she looked a bit young and was just super rude, she did not explain the menu or pricing well she was very confusing and she seemed mad that not all of our guests were getting more food and some just settled on sushi. She truly gave a whatever attitude and didn't inform us of the gratuity being added to our bill. Again, she was rude and said we couldn't do individual tickets and keep in mind some people came alone for dinner so it was weird trying to put two people on each ticket when not everyone knows each other. Our chef was an older man and honestly was okay until he insisted on calling our friend who was their birthday the birthday boy even though she's a woman which is super disrespectful and he also made racist Asian jokes as well joking about his wife being angry & hating her. I'm sorry but the transphobic and Asian jokes are so distasteful and disgusting. Please do better. As for the food it was alright. The sushi was the only good thing besides the decor I suppose.

Had my birthday celebration yesterday with a large group and this is our families go to when celebrating birthdays! Love the koi pond in the front entrance! I ordered the scallop and chicken teppanyaki meal. The chef who cooked for us was very entertaining and promptly gave me a birthday wish. Staff was very attentive and constantly refreshing drinks throughout meal. The fried rice was cooked to perfection with a delicious sesame flavor. The scallops were seasoned perfectly and were buttery soft. The chicken was delicious with the sauce the chef prepared. Best Teppanyaki in town! Bakersfield classic staple!

Came here again about a year after I last came! Another wonderful time with a great chef, great servers, and even better food. Have been trying other Teppanyaki restaurants and Bakersfield and personally Tokyo Garden is still my favorite, always a great choice for a wonderful dinner!

Ok let me start off by saying my family and I have been going to eat here for about 10+ years and we never had a problem until the a few months ago. so we brought up the issue and our findings with one of the ladies which I'm assuming is either the manager or the owners wife not sure. so we decided to give it the benefit of a doubt since we had been goin for so long loved the customer service and the food so we went a couple more times and all was good until today where we came across the same situation and I'm sorry I'm not one to leave reviews but this issue needs to get fixed anyways back to the topic we seen cockroach's and when we informed they told us the same thing the previously had told us which was they have someone spray every Sunday...... they waiter seem very embarrassed and apologies but the manager never addressed the issue we got a free $7 appetizer but that's it. Unfortunately this will be our last time going there and to the owner if your getting your restaurant sprayed every Sunday as they informed us then that means your restaurant shouldn't be having that type of issue.

EXCELLENT Teppanyaki!!! The best in Bakersfield. This is a good-sized restaurant with a great atmosphere. Very cute decorations & even an indoor koi pond. The New York steak was phenomenal, along with delicious miso. We've had filet & lobster in the past, which was also delicious. Our chef was James & he was highly requested by the other patrons at our table. He kept it fun & personal. The rest of the staff was friendly & accommodating. Definitely the best spot for Teppanyaki!
