I hadn't been to an indoor mall for over a year thanks to Mr. COVID but I decided to walk through the Brea Mall and visit their food court... Out of all the food options they had that were open, I felt Sarku Japan was my healthiest choice... I enjoyed my Bento Box with chicken and I felt the portion was pretty generous for the price however I was disappointed to get steamed vegetables instead of the salad that was supposed to come with my meal (based on their sign) and nobody even informed me about it... I would definitely go back again when I'm in the mall so I could try their other options...

This is the most underrated spot in the mall. The lady cashier is pretty nice. As well as the chefs who are fast at cooking when they have a lot of orders. What makes this spot great is you can see the food they are making unlike other places. It's kind of a show and perks people interest on how they cook the chicken and veggies. I always get the original teriyaki chicken plate because the chicken is dark meat. The veggies are cooked perfectly not hard. The rice is cook like my family makes it. They do not put a lot of sauce to ruin the taste of everything. They give you a lot of food for the price you pay because everywhere at the food court is pretty pricey. Overall I highly recommend this place if you want a quick bite while you shop around.

This is located in the food court area of the mall. Set your expectations for a mall type of food. This isn't meant for fine dining, or great service. Just expect something that isn't overly fried, filled with extreme flavors, and made fresh. The staff here are friendly, and I've tried each plate before and all of it tastes great. The steam veges is done well, and mixes into the rice good. Out of all the places I would let my kids eat at, this would be it. I do wish the portions for the meat is a bit more, but luckily there's an option of $1.79 if you want even more meat. Chicken is the tastiest out of all the protein. If the portion of meat was a bit more, I would give it a solid 5 star for the value you pay for it ($7 ish with tax). Because of Covid-19, they currently do not offer any of the sushi/California rolls thing. They do offer take-out and dine in, inside the food court area. Glad they are following recommended procedures during these times.Be sure to get a stamp card if you come to this location. 5 stamps, get 1 Chicken combo free.

I was walking by and saw the food being prepared and decided that I wanted to grub. I have never eaten here before this - nor heard of it. I rarely get out to the mall unless the Apple Store is calling. It was around 1:30pm on a Hump Day so the food court was slowing down. I had my dawg BuddyG along with me. The young lady at the counter was very pleasant. Smiled. Took the order - Teriyaki Chicken Special PLUS more chicken for an added fee of $1.79...such the deal! The food was ready within a few minutes. I know my dog appreciated it because I dropped a pice and he quickly found it. The food court is HUGE so you won't have trouble finding a place to sit. Afterwards you can find some dessert at any of the many places. The food was tasty. Not a surprise as it tastes like many ready-made teriyaki glazed but it wasn't bad. I would definitely come back with a few friends and our pups. If you appreciate the review - please LIKE me and let me know. And check out my other reviews. Chef Will Gotay aka The FoodPro! Now GO!! Get your grub on!

The one star is for the horrible experience I had on Tuesday, 1-28-20, at approximately 5 p.m. Otherwise, I will give it a 4. I have been coming to the Brea Mall for 40 years. It is 5 miles from my home. I walk in this mall, lots! As a retiree, I come to the mall an average of 4x/week! And, I shop in this mall, lots! I eat in the food court during 90% of my visits. I have seen so many changes over the 40 years of frequenting the mall/food court! This visit to Sarku Japan was humiliating, to say the least! The location of Sarku Japan has been held by at least 6 different companies... I have been enjoying this eatery since it opened in the food court. The cooks and cashiers are all extremely nice to me. A few of them have amazing senses of humor, too! I mostly order the chicken teriyaki, with only veggies. Today when I approached the cashier, a short, Hispanic female employee was beyond rude! She is not friendly at all. And, when she rang up my order, the chicken teriyaki dish was on special for $6.69, I believe, and the total came out to $7.20... so I politely asked her if she knows the tax rate in Orange County... I live a mile from the Orange County line; and my L.A. County tax rate is higher. She immediately proceeded to Yell at me! "What is the rate?" I was in shock, just for my info, I had politely asked if she knew the rate! and a customer behind me said, "Wow!, why is she yelling and asking you what you just asked her!" She kept yelling! And, kept asking me the same question that I had asked her!! I had handed her one of my stamp cards that had 4 stamps when I gave it to her. (Since I eat here, frequently, I have had at least 25 cards, each stamped 5X to receive a complimentary meal!) Because of her frowning, disrespecting me, and yelling for no reason... and, I saw the chef already preparing my food, but my stomach was upset... and I told her to cancel my order. And, I asked for my stamp card back. She then proceeds to speak in Spanish to one of the chefs (a very nice one... Asian, Chinese?). He speaks different languages. But she kept glaring at me... and he was smiling at me. So, she takes another card... and gives it to me; but she stamped only 3 stamps on it. I politely told her the card I gave her had 4 stamps when I gave it to her with my order... so, she needed to add one more stamp. She became furious! It was embarrassing, ridiculous, and so demeaning! Mind you, I am at least 20 years her senior! And, I always leave a tip in the cup at the register... because it is/was my fav place to order food from! I went to another eatery and enjoyed the service and food. As I was sitting close to Sarku Japan, I noticed she kept glaring at me... and also talking to different workers about me. I approached a nice chef and asked if I could speak with their supervisor/manager... but he did not understand English... only Chinese? I think he was trying to say there wasn't one? Another female worker was in the kitchen area... she seemed concerned and tried to talk with me... she, too, speaks very little English, perhaps Chinese? I approached the kitchen area to speak with her; but I stayed close to the counter... taking only 2 steps toward the kitchen, right by the counter where the sample plates are that customers take samples from... all of a sudden, this horrible employee who had already had issues, again... Yells at me, "Get out of this area... you are not allowed in this area!..." even the chefs from the Korean BBQ next door heard her... and one of them also works at Sarku Japan as a chef... and he's worked at different food outlets in the mall for many years. He is very nice... and knows who I am and always speaks when he sees me, even tho he has limited English... mostly Spanish. How does someone like this ill-mannered, disrespectful, angry, lack of customer-service skills person work there! She is a true disgrace to Sarku and the Brea Mall!

This is place is just okay. I love japanese food and was excited to see this in the food court, but was definitely let down after giving it a try. The chicken is chopped down to very small pieces so you feel like you're getting more than you actually are. The flavor is ok... more on the bland side. They prepped my rice and veggies before the chicken was ready so the rice and veggies weren't really hot anymore by the time I got my food. While I was waiting for my food, I saw the chef use the "clean" metal spatula to move some of the raw chicken out of the way even though he had a pair of red spatula for the raw chicken. That was disgusting!!! After that, I stopped coming and stuck to Panda Express and Chipotle whenever I come to this mall.
