Many, many folks are missing the JOY of Joe's Great American Bar! Just like Tinker Bell said, you must BELIEVE, and I believe Joe's will be back! All the regulars know how special Joe's is, a one-of-a-kind magical place, showcasing some of the BEST musical talent in California. Dancers, don't give up on Joe's - think positive, and when it's safe enough, we'll all be there again. And I hope it's soon!

god i hope they survive and reopen; it's one of the few places left in LA with a dance floor that caters to social partnered dancing featuring live music every night. disclaimer: i DJ there one night a week, but i do attend various events on other nights. for those interested in the dancing/music: sunday nights: typically blues or soul - lindy/blues/WCS monday nights: gypsy jazz - balboa/lindy crowd tuesday: more of a big band jazz genre - probably the best night to go if you're a less experienced swing dancer - lindy/basic EC swing wednesdays: can vary; a blues jam 2nd wed of the month thursdays: typically rockabilly but can vary fridays: hard rock saturdays: ditto they list scheduled bands on their website. if you're there to dance/listen, they expect you to spend at least $6 on drinks. that's two bottles of water. about the only band i can think of where there's no dancing is bernie dresel. his big band takes up a substantial portion of the dance floor and tables cover the rest of the floor. but that's about it. a piece of advice for non-experienced social dancers; if it's sun-thurs and there are a lot of experienced dancers on the floor please do not: - just stand there on the floor with your other drunk friends whooping it up; - try to dance without caring about whether you hit someone else on the floor; - carry a drink onto the dance floor; otherwise, expect anyone near you to be irritated with you. --------------------- the food is typical bar food. it's good and the prices are very reasonable. they offer daily specials such as pot roast and there are some locals who stop by regularly for dinner. a piece of advice when ordering at ANY bar on a busy night: do not expect a cheerful explanation of all the beer/drink options when there are 10-20 other people behind you in line still waiting to order - and would have been able to order in the time taken to give that explanation. there's other bartenders who occasionally get caught up with conversations with friends seated at the bar and might not get to you immediately. feel free to take them to task, but if you've got 10 people behind you in line at the bar and you don't know what you want, expect a bartender to try and move you along. if it's not rushed, they're probably more than happy to answer questions, but the place stays open only when they sell beverages - at a pace that matches the crowd. at joe's, the waitresses are all hard working. if you're new and able to get seated at a table, they'll take care of you and answer your questions. tip them accordingly. but if you're high maintenance, my sympathy goes to the wait staff.

Joe's Great American Bar & Grill over "forego" de chao all day every day. Now I find out they also have takeout so it's game over. I can get full for cheaper than the dinner price but the only bad thing about it obviously is the lack of variety. Sometimes sacrifices have to be made when you have a baby.If only they let me just pile stuff into a tray for one price...

Great place. Joseph is the man. Someone hit my car while parked and Joseph went above and beyond to make sure it was completed. Happy customer, will come back.

My first time here. Great atmosphere and crowd on blues jam night. Bartenders were a bit dismissive if you weren't a regular.

Ron Shaw

Good food and full bar. Great music from the Pam Loe and Hipshot band.

This is one of my favorite live music venues, especially when there are retro cover bands and rockabilly. The night we were there, the Outta Sites were playing 60's pop, complete with go-go dancers and James Bond clips on the screen. Bands usually play until 1. The crowd is older and unpretentious, and the service is fast and friendly. There is the regular selection of beer on tap, Strongbow Cider, reasonable prices, and basic pub grub. I would have given the place 5 stars if they had more vegetarian and healthy options. No amount of dancing will erase the effect of deep fried food.

Good people and good service. But no Ice Tea is the only draw back for a Great American Bar.

Entrance is free, just tip the band if you like them! I always have a fun time when I come, usually for the 80's bands. Drinks are not overly expensive either. They have food too, but haven't tried it.
