Married to a foodie, during our visit to Carmel, we sought out numerous restaurants. Halfway through our trip we visited Basil. What drew me in was their gluten free vegan raviolis! I can't wait to visit again for more, please! My husband tried a different dish each day and needless to say we did not look back! The freshness and authenticness of the dishes take you to Italy. The service was impeccable. Fedrico recommended wine parings with meals. Denis stopped by to say hello and check in on dining experience. Out of all the restaurants we patroned from the moderate to the expensive, nothing topped our meals or our dining experiences at Basil! I only wish we visited on Saturday instead of Wednesday. Extremely bad experience! The owner refused to serve us since we didn't order enough entrees for a party of 5 even though in his previous comment he mentioned that rule is for a party of 10. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone!

Had an amazing food and wine experience for lunch, Federico and Dennis were fantastic hosts to our group of six. Octupus appetizer was a star, tagliatelle, amazing, wine recommendations were spot on. I would go back in a heart beat.. loved it!!

The food is amazing and it's authentic Italian, so you can go wrong there. They always have great wine to pair your food with and the service is very friendly and nice.

On a rainy day we were looking for somewhere to eat that was open during the off season (and didn't have a 90 minute wait). We were so happy to see Basil and be seated and served water immediately. The service was very European (bringing out the food in courses, ample time between interactions with the waiter, friendly but relaxed staff). It was fantastic and exactly what we needed. It was quiet and calm and the food was delicious. The burrata was good and the focaccia was delicious as well. I liked the pinsa but I did feel like it was a little undercooked but I would definitely come again and try some gnocchi!
The owner needs a little visit from Gordon Ramsey to keep him in check or just shut him down honestly. Just scroll through and see how he responds to the poor reviews its very telling of how he will treat you if you come here. So save yourself the money and dont let it go to a guy who speaks in the third person on google reviews.

I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant if it’s the only place open in Carmel. EXTREMELY rude and unwilling to take feedback. I came here to leave a review about the lack of customer service, rude staff and default 22% gratuity (which isn’t even the tip btw) and saw that his only responses to comments were that they don’t need our business (ironic since they are open for business). Won’t come here again. Extremely disappointing.

The owners were so disrespectful, they extremely lack of customer service!I’m a local and I lived in Italy for 10 years and the food at BASIL is very plain, I ate some of the food because I was hungry! The prices are way high and they charged us 20% gratuity on top of the tip. As you said to the naive customers …. Don’t worry you don’t need IN THIS CASE MY business and we won’t come back EVER! They are much better restaurants than BASIL! CAPISH!!!! CIAO!!

Please do not go to Basil! The owner treated us horribly and based off other people’s reviews, this is not an uncommon experience. We were charged with a gratuity tip of 22%, when we should have been the ones to decide how much we tipped. The food was not great at all for how expensive the food is. Do not support this restaurant.
